An Evening with Tim Heidecker (2020 TV Special)
10/10
Hysterical.
7 March 2021
Funniest thing I've seen in ages. Fans of Tim and Eric know what's going on and will appreciate the genius of this special. Tim takes his standard narcissistic bully character and makes him a hapless stand-up, full of self-loathing that manifests as anger towards those around him, including the audience, the stage crew and his ex-wife.

Eagle Eye (2008)

Interesting idea but...

...the plot is so obvious and implausible that the folks I was in the cinema with at a screening tonight just laughed... in all the wrong places. Great to see Chiklis, Thornton, Dawson and Turtle from Entourage in small roles, but they aren't used to any advantage. If the plot had been set 20 years in the future, it might have been more credible, but Jan 2009? However it's one more film criticizing American imperialism and the current government's elimination of civil rights, so it can't be all bad. There are some terrific stunts, some dodgy green screen effects, and Shia slurs his words like a young Brando. But if you're looking for an easy film to watch that won't stress your neurons... and there is nothing else on... this is one to see.

I loved it!

You just have to appreciate this film for it's clever approach to having no budget... it's less of a Sci-fi film and more of a horror film. And yes its cheesy, so was the first film! The makers of the sequel have just stayed true to the original cheesiness of the original. They are both modern versions of 50s war movies, with cheesy dialogue and over-the-top drama. Go and watch some John Wayne films. I see ST & ST2 as tributes a la all of Tarantino's films are tributes to classic genres. ST2 is also a tribute to bad 70s and 80s straight-to-video horror flicks like "Re-animator", going for maximum gore and shock value. It's all in good fun. This may not be a film i will study, but it certainly deserves a place in my permanent collection. Come on you apes - do you want to live forever??
