La bête (1975)
If ever a movie deserved to be called weird, this is it.
Despite the fact that it is set in contemporary times to its filming, the story could have also worked in the Middle Ages, with its treatment of repressed sexuality, which finally explodes in the most extreme way. Leaving nothing to the imagination, the film had a lot of provocation and, like who doesn't want the thing, the doors to distribution were closed in a good part of the planet.
With absolute ease, the Polish filmmaker Borowczyk overturned aesthetic conventions and overwhelmed genres to make this hilarious, bloody and extremely erotic fable that comes to deny everything we believed about Beauty and the Beast (or perhaps to shed light on the relationship). It is essential to watch it with an open mind and a sense of humor. Bright!!
One Step Beyond: The Aerialist (1959)
Amazing!!!
One Step Beyond was a good show, with unitary stories more or less paranormal.
But here its creator and presenter, John Newland, leaves the set, and heads to the deep Mexican desert to film a documentary, accompanied by experts, including the famous neurobiological and medical researcher Barbara B. Brown, mother of the concept of biofeedback. The subject: hallucinogenic mushrooms, which he ingests on camera, later exhibiting surprising consequences. Nothing in this episode is acted, which makes the scenes more valuable and impressive. One of the most extraordinary episodes of the series, and of the history of American television.
Seinfeld: The Betrayal (1997)
Satirical and effective
Excellent episode. Beyond the tribute to Pinter, the story told "in reverse" reminded me of the dramatic film "Irreversible", by Luis Noé, with Mónica Bellucci. Of course, everything that happens in Sienfeld is satirical, and should not be taken as a real criticism of India. It is perhaps a satire on the prejudices that an American traveler can have about the great Asian country. The unexpected reappearance of Heidi Swedborg, if only for a moment, is welcome.
Curb Your Enthusiasm: Happy New Year (2020)
Great start with a brilliant episode.
Larry David's political incorrectness seems to be reaching its limits in this great start to the season.
The really memorable scenes with Cheryl Hines; In the ventriloquist game Larry seems genuinely about to explode with laughter. As always he is solidly backed by a cast of great comedians.
I hope that what comes next will maintain this level.
Curb Your Enthusiasm: Artificial Fruit (2020)
The usual Larry David
A good episode. Larry knows how to handle the plot, there are stories that intersect and he knows how to bring all of this to fruition, even if at times it seems difficult.
