Regina King IS Shirley Chisholm!
24 March 2024
I am so proud to be the 1st to review this remarkable film. The directing was precise. The storyline was factual and poignant. The sets and props were on point. The wardrobe was accurate. The lighting was ephemeral. The dedication was heartfelt. The acting....well the actors, these artisans were authentic, sincere and of the highest echelon of portraying actual people. But all and all, REGINA KING gave the performance of her life - thus far. Thank you, Ms. King! This is a must-see movie!! It needs to be seen by EVERYONE who cares anything about fixing our broken Democracy. Oh, Shirley Chisholm, how we need you now!~

Laraine Day was perfect in this role!
1 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I love this movie for so many reasons. First and foremost it helped me understand my kleptomania. I too was ridiculed as a young child for overstepping my boundaries in thinking I was "entitled" to the same things the little white girls in my class had. It took me a very long time to understand that I rebelled by pilfering little things. It gave me a sense of "pride" that I could sneak something and it was mine and no one could say I didn't deserve it. Luckily, I was not as far gone as "Nancy" who was in denial to the point of delusion. Or was she? Laraine Day played this role so brilliantly that when the locket was put around her neck as a bride, she seemed euphoric - like she'd just taken a drug. But if she was so delusional how did she know the locket was in play as an heirloom in the family of the man she was marrying? This movie was well ahead of it's time and still conveys a timeless message about society and all it's shortcomings.

Act Your Age (2023– )

Love this show!!
16 July 2023
Being a lady in my prime at 57, I relate so much to this well put together comedy! Having "grown up" with these actresses over the years, it's quite refreshing to see these women at the top of their game! And even though people want to compare ACT YOUR AGE to the classic Golden Girls, I urge viewers to watch ACT YOUR AGE for it's own unique type of comedy! I rarely laugh out loud at typical sitcoms but this one right here.... HITS HOME!! Did anyone catch Tisha Campbell's (Keisha) Easter egg from SCHOOL DAZE? I do hope BOUNCE TV keeps ACT YOUR AGE in rotation for many seasons to come! BRAVA ladies!!

History Repeating Itself~
4 June 2023
Diane Lane has done this before.... being dragged thru France by a pushy, presumptuous French guy, once at 12 yrs old & again at 52 - both ending with an anxious awkward kiss. This second time around was less magical but apropos after 40 yrs of living Life. A LITTLE ROMANCE had lot of LAURENCE OLIVIER and PARIS CAN WAIT had a bit of Alec Baldwin. Each movie portrayed people who were supposed to love Diane's character but overlooked her needs. Both movies gave her opportunity to grow & experience things unknown. All and all, if you are Diane Lane fan, this movie is nice to experience - especially if you saw her in that first flick. Wonder if she could do this again in another 40 years? "A chacon son gout"!!

The Powerful Pool Scene!
12 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
When Ellis is awoken by the sound of splashing come from the pool, and he finds a contrite team wearing their uniforms for the first time ready for practice - not a single word of dialogue was spoken, yet their faces, their acting - spoke volumes! So moving! I was moved to tears, as much as Terence Howard's Ellis was. When he wipes the tear from his eye, I believe that was Terence Howard's - the actor's, teardrop, not the character's. That sequence alone makes PRIDE a noteworthy film. ALL of the actor's performances are so damn real. Perfect casting. I was moved throughout. The storyline was uniquely accurate having come up in the 70's and the experience of getting a community pool in the black neighborhood. Life is a constant challenge and PRIDE expertly depicts what Pride, Determination & Resilient IS~

The Butler (I) (2013)

"I. KNOW. THE. WAY."....
8 January 2023
I've been moved to tears after watching THE BUTLER, for the first time, uninterrupted, all the way through AND IT'S SO CATHARTIC! This film catches the realistic SPIRIT of Americans of African descent. The film portrays a balanced depiction of the Civil Rights Era. The script, the cast, the cinematography and the historical timeline chronicled by classic tv broadcasts excelled brilliantly. Being born in 1965, this saga documented mine & my generation's Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome authentically. I put this kind of movie-making right up there with THE COLOR PURPLE. It is not an easy watch, but it makes you face feelings, emotions and the possible triggers required to affect change, individually & collectively. Well done, movie. The ending is PROLIFIC! Forrest Whitaker is a phenomenal actor! He played this role to perfection. IMHO Mr. Whitaker deserves ANOTHER Oscar when he says "I know the way!". THE BUTLER should be required viewing~.

Mrs. Chapman was so great~
28 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I was so moved by Mrs. Chapman's "prayer" in the church. So many people suffer like she has but are afraid to express their anger when hopes and prayers fall through the cracks. I praise the script writers of this episode for having the nerve to let her Mrs. Chapman curse God out and in a church! I know its taboo for most people to "talk back" to God but how many of us have felt the same frustration? I know I have, then watching & hearing Mrs. Chapman let God have it, made me clap my hands!!! Because when you've done all you can do and STILL get ignored by the Lord, how else are you supposed to handle it??? I cannot wait to see how the next episodes of GRANTCHESTER turn out~

Ragtime (1981)

Not at all what it should have been~
19 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
RAGTIME has great actors, but watching this fully for the first time in 41 years since it's release, I can't believe how ridiculous the storyline is! RAGTIME casted some really good actors from CAGNEY to SAMUEL L. JACKSON. It obviously was a high-dollar production, buy they shirked on creating a believable script! I do not care how lofty their intentions were, who in the world came up with the idea of a gang of black men bombing the streets of New Rochelle over some "horse crap" in a car?? Who would think to have a black woman go wave down a presidential train over some "horse crap" in a car? Then how do all of the disjointed storylines justify bringing in decrepit Cagney's character to lead a bunch of Keystone cops facilitating the return of the crap-less car? (There's no way in the world Booker T. Washington would have been pulled into such shenanigans!) Mockery is what comes to mind. And the only reason ELIZABETH MCGOVERN was nominated for an Oscar was for her 4 minute topless, simpleton-like portrayal of Evelyn Nesbitt. Just weird.

"I WON'T LIVE WITHOUT PASSION"
24 June 2022
At 1:12:44 Meredith Baxter's character "Lyn" cries out "I WON'T LIVE WITHOUT PASSION" and it made cry when I first watched this movie in 1990. I related to "Lyn's"pain so much. MB brought to life the reality of lacking love in a stale marriage, the loss of a forbidden love & then no more options of any kind of relationship. The movie BURNING BRIDGES is still so powerful today! I am now 56 yrs old & alone and this movie, MB's performance resonates just as much! Anyone who is going through a loss of self will be redeemed by this movie. Powerful theme, powerful performances. Such a shame this picture has never been seen by the masses. MEREDITH BAXTER has always been a good actress but in this movie she is GREAT!

Gene Hackman in drag is a HOOT!!!
3 June 2022
Between Nathan Lane's burst of laughter, screams and crying and Hank Azaria's as Agador, there is nothing but hilarity in this movie. Robin Williams gives a great turn, of course and its sad to know he's no longer with us. But just watch this movie and you will have a gay old time!!!

Held my interest!
23 May 2022
I was pleasantly entertained with "Candy". Jessica Biels did a fine job as well as the phenom Melanie Lynskey, whom I love! I love true crime stories and this definitely fit the bill. The music, the sets and the clothes were authentic, but the wigs....omg the wigs were horrible LOL! Especially Candy's husband, Pat's character....his was the worst! Otherwise the storytelling was on point and kept it at a nice five episodes that I binged in one Sunday afternoon!

Under the Gun (1951)

Richard Conte....when doesn't he play a rat??
12 May 2022
UNDER THE GUN is worth watching only for AUDREY TOTTER in my opinion. She slayed me when she tells Conte's character "You just weren't worth the lies"!! That line made the movie for me. And what does Conte's character do...what all of his characters do, seek revenge. Since most of the movie is about said revenge, it didn't have my undivided attention. But the performances of the other cast members are solid, therefore worth an hour and 20 minutes of your time.

Same music as Downton Abbey but no more similarities~
25 March 2022
The acting is off, especially by Coon and her characters family. Cynthia Nixon is good as well as Audra McDonald but the script is horrible and awfully pretentious. I'm only one episode in and wary of another.

This is not a true story....this is TRUE LOVE~
8 February 2022
I have been moved to tears by this very touching story. I do not care what anybody else says, this is an extraordinary film, all you need to understand it, is a heart. The cast is wonderful, including a 90yr old Eva Marie Saint. Just watch it and believe.

The ending is worth it!
6 January 2022
This is a cute, silly movie with some really good intentions. But is hits home with a feel good ending and then to hear KELLY CLARKSON sing THE TROUBLE WITH LOVE as the credits roll gives you a warm feeling inside. No, this is not a deep film but it does depict that you can live without love sometimes, yet you certainly live so much better with love in your life.

Madam Satan (1930)

These reviews are pretty accurate
16 December 2021
I only wanted to watch this film in order to see Lillian Roth, but let me tell you, I'm less than 30 minutes in and I am dumbfounded! It starts out with the philandering husband showing up the next morning after a night of drunken debauchery with his male best friend. The two of them proceed to take a shower together, in front of his wife, then they put on their pajamas and get into twin beds & go to sleep. The wife softly exits the room and closes the door. Was this a weak attempt to depict an open marriage, homosexuality? I know this was pre-code, but seriously - all done as a romantic comedy. Not funny, just peculiar. And by the time Lillian Roth appears, she does not come across as an actress with as much talent as she was purported to have. She was cute, but that was about it.

For those who have never seen the Original movie....
16 December 2021
Although this movie is not supposed to be a remake of Nightmare Alley from 1947, one cannot truly appreciate it without seeing the Tyrone Power version. Because believe me, I'm sure Bradley Cooper has seen it. This version is supposed to be more along the actual the William Gresham novel, but is lacks the petrifying nuance of the 1947 film.

ALL HAIL, HALLE BERRY!!!
25 November 2021
I am in tears, typing this.... what a phenomenal story. Anybody that is not moved by this film, has no soul. I loved it. JJ was a warrior, because she took all types of beatings & never stopped fighting. From her childhood to the abusive boyfriend (s) to the ring, she sacrifices so much to become a woman that is TRUSTED by her SON. And Halle Berry directed a nuanced film that told the truth. CONGRATULATIONS MS. BERRY, you did the damn thang!

Who wants to watch a horrid movie about a bully?
27 October 2021
What an awful story to tell. The entire mood is ruined by the despicable attitude of the bullying sister? I cannot stand such a depressing theme that influences the outcome of so many characters in one storyline. It unnerved me and I could not continue to watch it. Perhaps I am too sensitive. So if you are like me, I would suggest you turn to a more positive approach to story telling. This one is just too real for me.

Too bad the notion of "grooming" wasn't around back then~
18 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The more I've watched this classic, the more it irritates me. The young and beautiful Gene Tierney character was put with the decrepit Clifton Webb character who was 30 years her senior. The storyline depicts how he literally took her to the "right" hair salon, clothes boutique, restaurants, parties, etc. Then when he could no longer control her, he stalks her and threatens any potential beau she might have. So when she chooses someone else over him, he murders her (or who thinks is her). So it goes to show how long Hollywood has imprinted this mindset of "grooming" upon generations of men and vulnerable girls/women. I don't intend to tear down a classic noir film, because Gene Tierney's character ends up with Dana Andrew's character, someone who is closer in age but who does violates all kinds of privacy as he "falls" in love with her.

They just don't make them like this anymore....
14 September 2021
After reading the trivia box about this masterpiece, I realize that I was part of history! (This film originally aired on the CBS network as an episode of the 'CBS Friday Night Movie' on November 9, 1973. When first aired, Sunshine was the most watched made-for-TV film in history.) I too was an 8yr old, who was touched by this incredible story, one Friday night back in 1973. And you know when you see a movie only once, at the age of 8, and you never forget it, how good it is! Please put this movie into circulation. What the world needs now is a little Sunshine~

25 August 2021
What a narcissist this parolee was! What got me is when she held her hand out expecting the male parole member to give her his handkerchief! And he pointed to her fake hanky sewed into her uniform! He could tell she was gonna shoot herself in the foot. What a chip on her shoulder! A big fat baby!

I screamed out when she was declared "NOT GUILTY"
14 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This series was so captivating! It is a must see in my book. I related so much to Emily Watson's character, which she portrayed so very well. This story is about the "gray" shades of life, not everything being "black or white". And this a story about self esteem, secrets, lies, truths....what's real and what's not real. Take the journey, its a real ride this movie~

Parenting is hard...
8 July 2021
This a good movie. I understand that its hard for people with PTSD to cope in the regular world. I also understand that living off the grid works for some people. And in this movie I get the reasoning of the father for wanting to isolate himself and his daughter. But there comes a time when you have to let go of your child and no longer subject them to your demons, shortcomings, difficulties, etc. "Leave no Trace" is worth watching, especially the daughter's performance.

What a waste of Masterpiece....
22 June 2021
I am 13 minutes in and I just had to say how BORING "Us" already is! First of all, I cannot stand the actor that plays the husband and he has no rapport with the wife character. The script is stagnant and the premise is so predictable. What a waste of Masterpiece! Where is a good 'period piece' when you need one? I'd much rather watch Downtown Abbey from start to finish again, in my humble opinion, than this mess!
