Farther Than the Eye Can See (2003)
Amazing Story!
Wow, I just tried to walk around my office with my eyes closed and couldn't make it two feet - let alone to the top of Everest.
I've watched so many films and television shows about Everest, but this one easily tops them all. One of my favorite scenes is when Erik crosses his first ladder in the ice fall and you can hear him huffing and puffing and trying his best to walk across a ladder spanning a crevasse hundreds of feet deep.
As someone who has climbed Everest, the footage up high is amazing - nothing else comes close to the quality of shots above the 8000m level.
Overall this is an amazing story of accomplishing the impossible.
Light of the Himalaya (2006)
An insight into another way of living
This movie affirms that one person can make a difference. The two doctors in the film have made a global impact on blindness in 3rd world countries, which is absolutely amazing. It's very cool to see real solutions that go further than the often 'band-aid' approach of throwing money at a problem.
Some of the quick surgery scenes are not for the faint of heart, but it's absolutely amazing that they are able to operate on a human eye in locations like the high Himalaya. Seeing this film in High Definition is a must!
The two stories of the climb and eye surgery camps worked together quite well. Overall a very touching movie with some great moments of humor!
