Cantinflas (2014)
Cantinflas: a must-see film for everyone in Mexico, and elsewhere ...
I've seen the movie "Cantinflas" directed by Sebastian del Amo, and I am convinced that this is "the film that every Mexican must-see". This is biopic is the story of Mexico's greatest and most beloved comedy film star of all time, Mario Moreno "Cantinflas". The film follows him from his humble beginnings on the small stage to the bright lights of Hollywood.
On one side you discover the man: Mario Moreno who expressed his values through his Cantinflas character on films and stage. Cantinflas gives voice to social issues: on his films he would protest against injustice, keeping his cool being sincere, generous, honest and optimistic. Cantinflas never resorted to vulgarity, nor to profanity, insults or violence to make us laugh, and his unique speech style (cantinflear) reflects the demagogic rhetoric we hear from politicians. We all recognize on Mario Moreno "Cantinflas" a Mexican hero who overcame poverty and lack of formal education to become an artist and humanist, recognized worldwide.
On the other hand, there is the film where actor Oscar Jaenada does a masterful "incarnation" of Mario Moreno Cantinflas. Thanks to Oscar's credibility and this film's quality production, more people attended movie theaters to watch the movie and a new generations will better understand Cantinflas legacy and values.
In addition, the performances of other actors like Ilse Salas, Barbara Mori, Gabriela de la Garza and Luis Gerardo Méndez, to name a few, were preceded by months of preparation and are really a tribute to the characters they play. Original music by Aleks Syntek. Screen play by Edui Tijerina, and excellent production of entrepreneurs Vidal Garza Cantú, Adolfo Franco, Alejandro Barron, and Mario Moreno Ivanova. Thus, "Cantinflas" brings to life Mexico's hero, so this is a most- see film for everyone in Mexico, and elsewhere.
Before Midnight (2013)
One of Best Romantic Film Series of All Time ...
While reading The Guardian's 2010 Ranking for "The 25 best romantic films of all time", I found two Richard Linklater's films: "Before Sunrise" and "Before Sunset". I then watched them, and I agreed.
Now, it comes the third film in Richard Linklater, Ethan Hawke, and Julie Delpy's intimate and romantic series that follows the stories of lovers Jesse and Celine.
You can watch "Before Midnight" and appreciate the film on its own right. But, I advise you to first see the two previous films (Sunrise and Sunset, in that order), before this one. Then you will understand that "Before Midnight" is a powerful film, but IMHO it could not be fully appreciated if you could not discover Jesse and Celine before.
There is not much to say, but advise you to watch this film series to appreciate great acting, great stories and great original films.
I really hope for this love story to continue. And I am sure that some of you may agree with me that these romantic films, may sometime be ranked as the best romantic film series of all time.
Lie to Me (2009)
Hope to see them all reunite on a movie soon
"Lie to Me" is probably the best TV Series that I've seen. Great production, great cast, great stories.
It took me some time to fully understand Dr Cal Lightman (Tim Roth) and his ability as the human polygraph. Actually, thanks to the show I was encouraged to learn about Dr. Paul Ekman's work on nonverbal communication and deception strategies. So now, I can say that the science behind the show is well applied and after watching few episodes, makes viewer think twice before telling a lie in real life.
Now that the series are no longer on TV, I hope that producers would come up with a feature film or even a series of films so we may experience the science and great acting from the original cast at the movies.
Seres: Genesis (2010)
Bridge to Terabithia (2007)
A movie kids love and grownups learn to be kids again ...
My kids asked me to watch this movie, and with much hesitation I did. And while watching I felt as a teen again, after more than thirty years.
Great acting by AnnaSophia Robb (Leslie Burke)whose eyes say more than words, and the way she modulates here voice on conversations gets you involved and extends emotions to you on every dialog. And her chemistry with Josh Hutcherson (Jesse Aarons)is great: his silence brings you into his mind and transmits his feeling to you quite well.
I have English as a second language, and so far I've watched the movie three times, two in English and one in Spanish: I prefer original sound, however I recognize that this film's Spanish language dubbing was well done. Music is also great.
I believe this will be a classic film, not only because of the story but also due to the quality of whole production.
... These days there should be more movies like Bridge to Terabithia!.
