Heist (2015)
Hey, I liked it
I see it's gotten lukewarm to rotten reviews, well, you can't please everybody. Jeffrey Dean Morgan's character got the short end of the shaft in life & from his boss. He played his role convincingly & with feeling. Dave Bautista's character was obnoxious & annoying, so no great stretch for him, really. And DeNiro was DeNiro - you want great acting with emoting & dimension? then watch somebody else. I've come to the conclusion over the years that he pretty much just plays himself, no matter what role he's in. A couple of surprises at the end. There was just enough happiness to keep it from being schmaltzy & just enough action so guys would (mostly)enjoy it. All in all, not a bad movie & I enjoyed it enough that I didn't feel like I'd wasted my time. Gritty but with emotion, so you liked one of the bad guys enough to root for him to win.
The D Train (2015)
Pitiful - don't bother
One of the WORST movies I've seen in quite some time - didn't hold my interest from the beginning. Jack Black's character was totally unlikeable & I didn't care if he ever made it to the popular list. I gave up even attempting to watch this when the two men began kissing, cut it off & walked away. The rest of the characters in the film were flat & unreal. The whole tone of the film was sheer desperation. Nobody liked Dan in high school & 20 years later, they still didn't like him. It was painful to watch. I tried, but I can't find a single redeeming feature. Jack Black should stick to cartoon voice-overs. Save yourself the time, don't even bother with this one.
The Last Halloween (1991)
What a lot of fun!
This movie is great for "getting in the spirit" of Halloween & trick-or-treating! I highly recommend it - especially for families with young children. I would love to own a copy of it or would love to see it on TV again this year! Bring it back, please!! The cast & characters were just right, the story is about hope, dreams & never giving up wishing for something you really want to happen. The costumes, the decorations, the entire spirit in the movie is just plain fun. Rhea Pearlman is a terrific "bad lady" & Richard Moll is just perfect for the part of Hans, the evil henchman! And it has a happy ending, with lots of Halloween goodies thrown in - what could be better than that?
