Anatomy 2 (2003)

Both Anatomy movies are great! Different in great ways
20 March 2024
Randomly coming across these is the best way to experience them.

The original is a fascist fever dream, and the sequel is a worthy follow up. If I had a magic wand I would make a series out of these concepts.

The people behind both of the movies knew what they were doing, and executed it properly. If I spoke German I'd write a third movie and push to have it made by famous German actors. It shouldn't be made in any other language, and needs to be a series that branches into the theoretical future.

Best "medical school" movies I've ever seen. It's inspirational and could rival the Saw series if it is crafted in the right way.

Pleasantly surprised!
13 March 2024
Tonight was a double feature of Zookeeper and Here Comes the Boom, and really enjoyed them both. The latter is a much better movie, and that's coming from someone who doesn't enjoy wrestling or mixed martial arts.

I'm glad it was an early Happy Madison movie and wasn't strictly streaming at this point. The mall cop movie really didn't rate well at all in my book, Here Comes the Boom was far better and the kind of movie that I connect to because it is multidimensional!

Best Kevin James film I've seen! He really held up well as the butt of the joke, and the actor portraying the personal trainer made me laugh harder than most of the other characters. I wish he had mores great roles in movies, he's a really fun personality and someone different for once! I don't know the popular wrestlers outside of the Rock, and he was a lot of fun to watch.

I wanted to be a teacher, if it payed a living wage, and this movie really resonated with me because of the message. School programs help everyone who can benefit from participating in extracurricular activities that they need to grow as people. I needed more of that in school, and I hope kids are finding artistic avenues now days.

Alejandro Jodorowsky! Is that you?
4 October 2023
How was this made the same year as El Topo? I might have had missed a connection between the two.

It's really impressive that both of these movies (El Topo & ¡Mátalo!) happened to be made in the same year. Maybe the dose was shared between the directors?

¡Mátalo! Should be held up as a early example of western cinema that breaks the mold. I was very impressed by the direction of the actor's exaggerations. I love the 70's vision of the Wild West, it's my kind of weird! Soon I'll check out the original Italian version, I want to do a double feature with Requiescant (1967).

More people should make Psychedelic Westerns, they are by far my favorite genre.

I don't understand some people's hate
20 July 2023
This movie is awesome, and very unique! I tried to think of other movies it reminded me of, but there aren't any like it.

The actors are all fantastic, and the atmosphere is creepy. I don't want to give any spoilers, so I'll be very vague. The main characters are my favorite part. It's hard to put yourself in their positions, but the movie does make you empathize with the plights of "everyday people".

All of the special effects are solidly done. I didn't notice any moments that broke the fourth wall while watching. I'm for sure going to watch out for more "Shout Studio" productions from here on out.

Skinamarink (2022)

Reminiscent of Wavelength (1967)
8 July 2023
Many people will uncomfortably attempt to watch Skinamarink. This is the best example of divisive film making in recent years, it will only be appreciated by experimental film fanatics and ambient horror lovers.

The grainy shots and faceless characters will leave some viewers wanting more. Those techniques are crucial for the experience of discomfort and first person perspective of the situation that main characters find themselves in.

A very important part of the stylistic choice made in Skinamarink is having most of the film distorted and ambiguous. Much like a child's perspective of life, the viewer is left to their interpretation of situations and images based on the limited information presented.

8/10 Instant favorite experimental horror film.

*Edit note: The bell curve of this film proves that it's not for everyone, and the people who rate movies a single star out of ten are not serious reviewers.

I should have watched this years ago
3 June 2023
The only thing missing is Dizzee Rascal in the soundtrack.

Attack the Block is a science fiction version of I Declare War, with more blood and aliens.

If there were more R rated movies about kids going out to kick some butt, I'd be down to watch those films. It's refreshing to see mature comedy/horror/action movies that aren't another overused Hollywood actor like Liam Neeson or Daniel Craig. They are fine, but the fresh blood is a really nice addition to action movies. I'd recommend this to my younger brother or anyone who dislikes scary movies. It's a good double feature with Paul, if you want more laughs after seeing some crazy aliens.

7.5/10 I'm definitely going to enjoy this blu ray for years to come!

I'm a film nerd.
21 May 2023
Looking for the strange and enlightening subjects is my purpose observing this incredible art form.

There is an increasing need for big Hollywood blockbusters (that sometimes never see the light of day, due to tax write offs). And I'm completely against that side of the industry.

Beau is Afraid made me realize how impressive contemporary art house cinema is. There are people who will dismiss a three hour movie just because they don't get the loud explosions and excitement from the get-go. But we also have people who sink themselves into the psyche of the characters. And that's what I live for.

Beau is a deep dive into the psychology of a person scared of the world, and tormented by the insanity of people. To the point that the viewer may feel incredibly uncomfortable, by unknown or relatable existential crisis that exists around themselves.

I praise everyone involved for creating such a special and disturbingly poignant movie.

First time watching either version
27 April 2023
I'm so surprised by the low ratings. This is exactly what I look for in a surreal murder mystery. Now I'm going to have to go back and watch Twixt. All the actors are fantastic and timeless while invoking classic literature, such as Edgar Allan Poe's style.

Hopefully B'Twixt will open this classic to a wider audience, I'm sure there are a lot of people who would appreciate this film, and give it the recognition it deserves.

I love the dreamy flow of the story. I can't think of anything that resembles B'Twixt, it's funny and spooky. The camera work and editing makes it an ethereal journey from beginning to end.

A great follow up to the original
18 February 2023
If you can forgive filmmakers for all the sequels and reboots, this is a fun contemporary sequel of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I'm surprised, because I was pleasantly surprised with this version. A lot of people focus on how horrible the reactions are.

I'm not gonna spoil anything about the movie, but I will spoil connections between the original and this 2022 version. It's nice to see a survivor coming back to revenge the deaths of her friends. Out of all the remakes and reboots, this is one I've really enjoyed because it ties in the original movie with modern society into 2022. I think that a lot of the negative comments are coming from people who don't like the hate of the confederate flag and people trying to be better humans than we were over the last 2000 years. Modern society wants to be better and it's obviously scaring some reviewers.

Epic campy movie.
12 February 2023
I wish King would have kept directing on cocaine. I love the style and jokes. The extravagant destruction and acting made me love Maximum Overdrive!

The movie isn't bad, but isn't for everyone. Even though I wasn't alive before the 90's, I still love the nostalgia of the 80's. King really nailed the goofiness and it only made me love the movie more!

The only thing I would add, is a credit sequence of animated cars crushing people!

If you like or can stand campy movies, Maximum Overdrive is worth your time. Especially when compared to a movie like "Duel".

Also, if your kid likes AC/DC you should share this movie to introduce King into the future generations. The shining is a great movie, but a lot of kids will miss out if they aren't introduced to the vast writing world of King.

Halloween (2007)
7/10
The original Halloween movies were ruined by...
7 November 2022
...the endless use of Michael Myers. I appreciate the Rob Zombie version of Halloween, because it isn't the same old repeated crap that came out of the Halloween movies. I've always liked Nightmare on Elms Street because each movie stands on its own. I've been repeatedly disappointed by Halloween, the disjointed and obvious money grab films are worthless in my opinion. John Carpenter was right with his decision on selling the rights, Halloween should've been a series of films, not about Michael Myers for every film.

Zombie's version does share a basic make up of the original, but it is it's own animal. I recommend it for anyone who wants a good slasher film that is different from the original films.

One of the best metal movies \m/,
11 October 2022
"Why do you taunt me with your darkness?"

Obviously not for everyone, but as a metal head, it's one of the best and most quotable movies I've ever seen! I decided to leave a comment because, I will eat your heart.

It's hard being from the Deep South, but I'll always bring my doggy to pee on my roommate's doormat, and enjoy some Popeyes chicken.

It's hard being a son of Satan, but there is great music and lots of edibles! I'll never turn down a special cake! It makes my head spin right round baby.

I hope this review isn't going to create any satanic panic, because all this s- is made up. Well, other than the fields of flowers that my Mom welcomed me into.

Let the Sin Begin!

Patricia Arquette is super sweet <3 Don't make me show you my crazy eyes!

Firestarter (2022)
7/10
Different from the original.
9 September 2022
Funny enough, Stephen King said in an interview that he likes the Firestarer remake more, even though it's less faithful to his own original story! I'm paraphrasing, he's got a full Vanity Fair interview if you want to hear his thoughts.

Firestarter is "updated", but I love the nostalgia from 80's movies, so I'm very torn on which I like better. They are different animals in the end.

It's not strange that a remake is getting shot down by armchair critics. It's totally crazy that the original author is on the opposite side of most reviewers.

Worth a watch for people who like supernatural thrillers, but you should note that its got to be watched for its own performance. Not a preconceived idea of what the movie should be. I haven't read the original story, but I might now.

The actors are great... The antagonizing little boy is one of my favorite characters. Although he might be a good kid, his performance makes me want to call him bad names.

There are moments of the movie that can be slow, but does add to the story. The fire effects could have been better, but I liked the stylized nature of it. Still pretty obvious that it's cgi on top of the frames, but effective if you don't need photorealism to enjoy a movie.

6.5/10. Because it could have been better.

The original I give 7/10. Because it could have been better.

The negative reviews are lies
8 September 2022
On a rewatch I had to post a review. I'm once again surprised that this movie got so much hate. It's an amazing movie and stands on its own, while setting up future movies.

I'll never understand why some people don't like movies that star a woman. That's what it seems to boil down to, when reading negative reviews. This is science fiction, action, and an origin story. Solid trifecta, if you ask me.

Easily a 9/10. I love the the Blockbuster moment. I miss physical media and this is a nice tribute to the days before streaming.

Don't let the negative reviews stop you from watching! Anyone worth a grain of input would rate this movie above a 6/10. Forget the people who talk down any movie, especially if they give it a 1/10. The only movie worth that rating is "Hick Trek".

Much better than I anticipated
30 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Don't sleep on this one. Really interesting film from Paraguay! Totally worth a watch. I'm glad I grabbed a blu ray of it.

It's not a jump scare movie, but it has its moments where they flash images that show the dead walking around and it could be scary to some people.

The lead character has an interesting story and I'd like to know more about him. That's my only critique. I think the guy should have a more fleshed out story, or a prequel about the drama in his life! Overall, it's an interesting a underrated film.

I'm going to look for more South American movies because of Morgue! It was a fun time if you don't have a problem with subtitles.

La La Land (2016)

Not a fan of musicals.
31 July 2022
I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this movie. I am a huge fan of jazz, so that element was captivating. The romance aspect was fun, especially tied in with trying to get a foot up in the job industry. Acting and playing music are hard worlds to find a place in, and I appreciate the sentiment of the struggle. Art in general is a very difficult profession to exist within, successfully. I applaud the work done, and hope more people are influenced by La La Land, than discouraged.

Worth a watch.
23 July 2022
I don't understand the people who down vote new movies immediately.

I had a fun time and didn't make an instant connection to movies that I already love, such as "Cube".

This is worth watching, great acting and mystery. An hour in, I had assumptions, but didn't know exactly where it was going.

I've had more fun watching Escape the Field than big "blockbusters" recently. The only exception I can make, was watching Elvis (2022).

The only rotten tomatoes I see, are the early reviews! Too many people rate movies with ridiculously low scores. I'd probably rewatch this movie again. Here is my personal rating system for movies:

1-Won't watch again 2-Horrible, but I've seen worse 3-Didn't like it, may have something decent 4-Bad, but not terrible 5-Indifferent 6-Good, I might rewatch it 7-Solid, probably going to it watch again 8-I liked it, will watch again 9-Loved it, will recommend and watch again 10-Favorite of all time, will watch again and again and again and again and again.

I'm looking forward to sharing this strange, surreal tale with my friends! Exactly my type of humor and randomness. Douglas Adams would probably have had a great time watching such an irreverent reflection of humanity. 10/10 easily, and I'm so excited for the future movies that Daniels make together.

Wrong Turn (2021)

I liked the original Wrong Turn
21 July 2022
But this is a totally different animal! The ending made the movie for me. Last 30-40 minutes was awesome, and exactly what I wanted out of the it. Just based on the description on the blu ray cover, I walked in knowing this is a different premise than the original series. I've always liked the concept of mountain men. The idea that there are people hiding out around forests, living off the land is fascinating. Maybe don't watch if you like camping remote areas and get creeped out easily. But I'd recommend this movie to most people who enjoy horror/thriller movies.

Consumption, Idealism, Brutality, and Money
13 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
American Psycho is a portrayal of "American Exceptionalism". Viewers will experience a twisted version of existentialism during the story of Patrick Bateman's manic journey.

We learn that deep fantasy and a sub-reality can merge to create a narcissistic and psychotic person. Sadly the delusions of grandeur do not express now depraved Bateman is. I'd like to see a second part, maybe a contemporary writer can express how bad society can lead a feeble mind.

Beautiful tribute to the great Bill Hicks. Anyone who loves him should watch this BBC production!

Hearing his family remember him brought tears to my eyes. His friends made me wish I knew him.

Looking for a fun journey? Take a trip through Venice Beach. Goofy people and action collide in a fresh take on beach life avenue. Forget Bruce Willis, just enjoy it for the story that it is. Great soundtrack by the way!

I recommend this to all surf and skate punks.

Moral of the story
15 March 2022
People work hard to get by. Don't be a (you know what) cop. Life is hard right now. We have the means to make life better for everyone, yet we don't try to improve life for our fellow people. Also, don't be stupid. BTW, if any cops have LSD C20H25N3O, please send me samples. I'll totally drug test them for you! I'm totally authorized to make sure that it is the purest compound that people can receive.

So bad it's amazing
6 February 2022
This should have been a Trey Parker film. The soundtrack and goofy nature of Dinosaur Island are reminiscent of Cannibal A Musical and Orgazmo. It would probably be more a bit more clever if Trey was onboard, but it's fun for what it is!

5/10 to be honest. But because people Like to skew ratings to represent their opinion, I'll give it a six out of ten.
