Machan (2008)

A film to be proud of.
6 February 2019
Funny, poignant and eye opening. The amazing true story of a motley group of illegal economic migrants is sensitively directed by Uberto Pasolini with Prasanna Vithanage, brilliantly acted by some of Sri Lanka's finest stage and screen actors, beautifully shot along with an engaging score, makes this one of the best Sri Lankan movies out there.

Trash

An absolute waste of time. You can see better acting at a village nativity play.

Weak film making.

Failed attempt at a potentially riveting story. Amateurishly directed and acted, badly casted and wasted effort all together. Sad.

Nidhanaya (1972)

An established masterpiece from the godfather of Lankan cinema.
7 August 2009
Nidhanaya is generally considered to be the classic Sri Lankan film. Number I in most anyone's desert island collection of Lankan films. Lester James Peiris takes a powerful story and weaves a tapestry of wonderfully engaging images shot in austere black and white. It is bold film making from a person very much in command of his style and technique. Lester James Peiris was never again to reach such virtuosity in his stellar career.

A great ensemble cast, award winning script by Tissa Abeysekera, incredibly potent music from Premasiri Khemadasa and poetic cinematography by the under rated M.S. Anandan make this film a must watch.
