Leave the World Behind (2023)
What was with the ending!!!
Loved this film, full of suspense, great cast, kept me guessing the entire time.
All the way through I kept thinking what on earth is going on here?! I'm still a bit confused to be honest!
The ending totally ruined it for me. Not the first time a netflix original has left the ending on an abrupt note. I feel for such a long movie we deserved a bit more, it needed wrapping up!!
I want more explanation about the animals and why/who did this. What involvement did George have. What involvement did dannhy have.
Overall though a gripping and really cool movie and ever more terrifying that this could actually happen!
Wolf Pack (2023)
SMG was used and abused for ratings
I have to start by saying, I am a MASSIVE SMG fan. I must have watched a different show than the one that the people who gave this show 5 stars watched. My friend and I watched this show together as we are massive Buffy fans and love SMG and wanted a show to watch together for fun.
Needless to say we were disappointed although we managed to make laughing at the terribleness worthwhile. Where do I start? The acting is terrible, even SMG was poor but we felt it was likely due to the horrendous juvenile script that made little sense. The direction and editing was also terrible as the characters seemed to jump from one environment to another with little explanation and deaths of different characters had no lasting emotional impact. The explanation behind the werewolves and their ability to shape shift as well as their powers was poorly explained. Like fire can change them into their Wolf form and back again? Wtf?! That makes ZERO sense.
The teenage characters were difficult to like: Everett's anxiety issue was frustrating and made you eye roll with how pathetic it made him seem. Blake was another example of trying to make moody teen girls likeable but failed, especially when her attempts to make her look like a good sister to her autistic brother ended in her yelling at him most of the time. Luna had pitifully little flesh to her personality with her obsession with finding her pack and she spent most scenes stood around with a disturbingly Amber Heard-esque expression on her face. And Harlan's motives and mood seemed to go from one end of the spectrum to the other with no warning as well as the show overly objectifying his character for the sexual content.
Then there's the special effects which belong somewhere in the pits of hell. Even the practical effects they had back in the Buffy days would have been preferable. Oh and I'm surprised no one has mentioned the woeful makeup on the show which seemed to get worse with every episode to the point where me and my mate could not believe what we were seeing. The womens' foundation was literally orange to the point where their necks and ears were fluorescent white compared to their faces. The makeup was so thick and cakey, and this was noticeable on the men too. Luna's character suffered the most with this as her makeup was on thick even when she was in bed and in a pool.
It's hard to hear that SMG had a part in producing this show but I hope that they can try and improve for the second season which I've heard is happening. Thank you for reading my rant.
Outlast (2023)
Jill and amber are the devil
I binged this in a day and it left me thinking if we ever had any sort of apocalypse there is no hope for mankind and civilization learning from mistakes and living as one and helping each other to thrive. People are god damn evil. Jill and amber are just THE WORST human beings ever. Jill has something seriously wrong with her, she is the spawn of Satan. The way people treat each other in this is dispicable. The men that won deserved to win in my opinion.
If it has taught me anything, it's why bullies and narcissists get so far in the world. Their little sheep (amber) follow them and the nice guys finish last because they cant be bothered getting caught up in this awful drama.
What shocks me the most is that the production company showed absolutely no duty of care to the contestants. They watched grown adults get bullied, stollen from, intimidated, all of which resulted in them being mentally and physically abused and sleeping without sufficient means (no sleeping bags) and they didn't intervene. This isn't survival. When you sign up for a survival show this isn't what you sign up for. Im sure none of these contestants signed up to go and be bullied and humiliated, they signed up to test thier strength and skills and see if they were up to the tough wilderness of Alaska. As if it wouldn't be hard enough. The producers really let the contestants down and should never have let team alpha continue, they ruined so many peoples experiences and made it into a soap opera more than a survival show.
It's a good watch though and a very interesting eye opener to the human psych.
Love in the Villa (2022)
Embarrassing and cringe
I LOVE romcoms but this was hard to watch. It was cringe from the start. Couldn't even pay attention. And I'm on maternity leave and have oodles of time to kill.
It's quite toxic and OTT. The writing is so bad. I'm surprised Tom Hopper agreed to do this garbage. From umbrella academy to this is quite a drop. They've totally not done him justice with the terrible dialogue and story.
Funnily enough my favourite character was his real life wife Laura hopper, she plays an ab fab style character, not in keeping with the rest of characters but she's makes it bearable.
Struggling to even find the 600 characters to finish this review as there really is nothing more to say. It's just awful.
Landmine Goes Click (2015)
Mentally disturbing
This film is one of the most disturbing, hard to watch films I've seen in a long time.
I feel like I need therapy to recover from it!
Won't be watching again.
Gona go rock in a corner now.
The Teacher (2022)
BBC version MUCH better
What a ridiculous story line. So unbelievable and far fetched. 'A teacher' on BBC does this story line so much better and is way more compelling. Really disappointed.
The Tourist (2022)
Really hard to follow
Its okay but really hard to follow. The last episode was good though. I think you have to really pay attention to get what's going on. Good acting just very complex story.
The Harvest (2013)
Ending was appalling
After the most obvious storyline they cant even be bothered to give us an ending and show what the outcome was. Waste of 1hr45. Been and done before regurgitated story line. Disappointed.
The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan (2019)
Very cringe and forced
Never seen Martin freeman look so uncomfortable in an interview. It's really wierd and forced. I mean I'm sat here high and I've not let out a single laugh. Very wierd talk show. Not enjoying it tbh.
The Deceived (2020)
Emily Ried's acting ruins it
2 episodes in and I just cant see how Emily Reid was cast. She's so wooden, nothing she says is believable. It's frustrating to watch.
How to Get Away with Murder (2014)
Love this series
One of the only series thats kept me gripped season after season.
I'm gutted it's over.
The season 6 finale did the show justice and ended perfectly.
Interstellar (2014)
Best film I have ever seen
The only time I have ever wished to give more than a 10 out of 10. I have watched it 3 times this year alone and I cant wait to watch it again!
Best film I have ever seen without a doubt.
The Undoing (2020)
Very slow, boring whodunnit
It had the potential to be something great but it was so difficult to keep interested.
Nicole kiddmans character was so boring and lacked any emotion which is such a shame as she normally plays such powerful characters in mini series.
It got to the point that I didn't actually care who did it.
The first episode had me gripped then it just went on a downward sprial of
bordem.
Some episodes didnt really have any content whatsoever and just felt like bulkers to pad it out a bit.
It was mega unrealistic and hard to believe that a wife would behave like that if her husband had been accused of murder and exposed as having an affair with the victim.
Very strange series and extremely disappointing from such high profile actors.
7500 (2019)
Great film disappointing ending
This film had me gripped all the way through. Great acting and really moving. Shame the ending didn't really tie anything up.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
It makes chess cool!
I dont know a thing about chess but this was a true masterpiece! I was gripped. The acting, the cinematography, the music, the outfits, it was amazing. So much raw emotion. I love that netflix took something not many people know about and made it compelling
Dynasty (2017)
Some crappy actors
Its not bad but its not great. Blake carringtons acting ruins the whole show, whoever cast him needs firing. He is so unnatural that its cringeworthy and it gets worth every season. Adam and colby are just as bad, its embarrassing.
The directing is a bit too cringey and obvious, i dont know if its meant to be that way?
Its trash TV but its easy viewing. Dont expect anything more
Time Trap (2017)
Loved it!!!
All the people saying the 10 star reviews are fake need to get a life.
This film is brilliant!! I usually hate Sci fi but I absolutely loved this movie!! Not seen anything like it before and thought the premise was fantastic. It was such a cool idea and I loved the characters. I hope they do a second one
Coffee & Kareem (2020)
The kid ruined it
That kid was the most annoying character EVER. That it all
Satan's Playground (2006)
Worst movie I've ever seen
Watching this movie makes you question whether this is just a joke or an hour and a half of out takes. It's a tragedy. 90 minutes of your life you will never EVER get back. It's like the actors were just picked off the steet and paid 5 bucks. Avoid.
Malevolent (2018)
Great horror film
I really don't understand the poor rating! This film is the most decent horror in a while! It's a good story and incredibly jumpy. The actors were brilliant and it was well done. Definitely worth a watch if you like horrors
