An error has ocurred. Please try again2 MOVIES THE SEARCH WOULD NOT ADD ARE LISTED BELOW: Unthinkable(Both middle-aged best friends and the young couple[their kids] are severed possibly for good in both cases[the friendship and the young couple] between the McDowells and Shaws as a result of the actions of the young couple).
Hit and Run(Colin--the big mistake that anyone could make in a hurry and yet almost everyone sees Joanna Kendall[Colin] as if she's ebola!) HIT AND RUN GOES BETWEEN 5 AND 6, BECAUSE OF THE MESSAGE AND THE WAY IT MAKES YOU THINK. UNTHINKABLE GOES BETWEEN 14 AND 15 ON THE LIST.
With these extra 2 Movies the list comes to 21. They are added here, because imdb search could not locate them in the system.
Other Notes: 1. Orphan is believable and this could happen in a white child adoption, because of the similarity of many adult and kid features in white people. Plus, many white people have similar voices between childhood and adulthood. Case in point, look at the adults and kids in this movie! Therefore, all you really need to have this happen in real life is a 1. a white dwarf like Esther was and 2. a great liar like Esther was to delay going to the dentist or doctor long enough to implement her plan.
2. Love, Lies, and Murder(That guy was so cold that he could have done what Jim Jones did(Jones had his people punished, manipulated them, and got almost a 1,000 people to commit suicide)! Anyway, Dave Brown had his daughter kill his wife, got her to attempt suicide, molested his sister-in-law from the age of 11 on, married her, and killed[conspiracy] for profit[although he had a great job]).
3. Bitter Blood: Suzy Q is clinically narcissistic; she expects that everyone should dote on her like her rich aunt and agree with her like her parents do for much of the movie. She expects her dentist husband to come chasing when she leaves, but Tom doesn't! This, as is the case when someone is clinically narcissistic, makes her mad enough to kill him from then on! Still, she doesn't have to, since she has their two kids to use as leverage! Enter cousin and lover Fritz and they become extensions of each other: Suzy wanting to do all in her power to keep custody and Fritz is a quack and special ops wannabe. One adventure after another until the explosive end! Pay close attention to the writing at the end.
4. A Woman Scorned: Betty Broderick is probably a hard wife to get along with. Still, nobody that puts you through school, takes care of you to where all you have to do as a lawyer is go to work; come home; use the toilet/take a bath; talk on the phone; sleep; and eat, and takes care of the household and kids expects you to dump them for a much younger woman the first chance you get! He's a big boy; why didn't he say that I don't want your money and time when she was giving before he became a lawyer?! Betty does all these things with them being a family in mind and he is gone with a much younger woman. Betty gets monetary compensation, but she loves him as a wife should love her husband! Divorce is so prevalent in our society today that even when a person loves their spouse as Betty did, it is thought of as she should move on! Betty--after all that she's invested for the investment that she wants--has her husband lessen the return of her investment! Other women take it in this movie, but can you honestly do that if you love them as your vows say?!
5. Too Close to Home - A mother that will do anything for her son Nicky and is obsessed(not romantic as the Kimes) with her son. When I say anything, I mean criminal or otherwise.
Reviews
Enough (2002)
Pretty Well Thought Out, Very Realistic, and Very Enjoyable Movie!
If a smaller woman wants to beat a man in a combat fight, that's how you write it and how you do it!
You don't just show up and he's beaten; that would make it completely unrealistic! What's so hard to believe: 1. An abusive husband that confines his wife, but does what he wants! That happens sometimes as it does in the movie: from first major argument on, a physically abusive man might decide to lay down his ground rules right then and there!
2. Slim(J Lo) had self defense training and anyone can get that(esp. against a coward who really can't fight). I LOVED THE PART WHEN SHE PUTS RINGS AND STEELTOE BOOTS ON TO SHOW THAT SHE WAS NOT FIGHTING AN EQUAL IN THE PHYSICAL DEPARTMENT! THIS IS JUST COMMON SENSE AND, YET, SOME B-MOVIES SHOW A WOMAN KICKING/ PUNCHING A MAN AS IF HE WAS A WOMAN! THIS MOVIE DOES NOT MAKE THIS HUGE MISTAKE! ALSO, THERE IS REASON FOR HER TO ENGAGE MITCH IN A FIGHT, SINCE SHE CANNOT BEAT HIM IN A COURT OF LAW AND GRACE'S CUSTODY CASE IS COMING UP!
3. Mitch(abusive husband) had connections that rich men probably do! Even if a rich man is not crooked, he has connections and finds people who love being his friend. If he is crooked, he can find the kinds of friends he needs(BECAUSE THERE IS LITTLE RISK TO HIM). He talks in code speak and--even if a mostly petty criminal(like Mitch)--he is probably not going to do any time to make him stop. If a rich man is crooked, then both he has people that love finding or feel they "HAVE" to find criminal employment and there is little risk(SINCE HE WOULD DO RARE SERIOUS CRIMES WITH THOSE--AS IN THE MOVIE--WITH THOSE THAT HE HAD SOMETHING SERIOUS ON AND, THE OTHER STUFF, HE COULD ALSO DO WITH THOSE SAME PEOPLE OR OTHERS: AND IF CAUGHT IN THE SMALL TIME STUFF, HE DOES NO TIME WORTHY OF NOTE). Again, very realistic!
4. She had escape plans and routes--as every person on the run should!
5. As smart and/or wise as she is(or through her dad's connections), she can definitely learn about the simple technologies, etc. of the day that could allow her to do what she did in the movie to keep Mitch from getting help.
Negatives: 1. Slim has access to too many connections: Her father has connections that rival Mitch--if not surpass or circumnavigate Mitch's connections completely! Slim got "around" even before Mitch--having an ex in Seattle without explanation and she lives someplace else. Both happening to the same poor person creates instances of coincidence in a movie where she's on the run; this is bad for this movie. They could have had J Lo researching to find someone that was well studied in fighting techniques and stealing from Mitch or his mother to get money. 2. When she is on the run, there is a lull in activity there!
Of Boys and Men (2008)
Good movie that has its moments at pretension at greatest
At the beginning, the movie is average to slightly below average, it has an explosively good middle, and, again, it returns back to this average to slightly below average ending.
Holden(Townsend) is distraught by the accidental, vehicular killing of his wife, Rietta(Bassett), but mostly holds it together around others. His baby sister, Janay(Rowell), helps him through the sudden loss. Holden and Ri have 3 kids: an older son who has a college graduation eminent(who has an unnoteworthy part; they don't even show him grieving his mom's loss), a much younger middle son nickamed Z(narrates the movie, the movie revolves around him and the people that he knows that are also appear in movie, and his friends/acquaintances add meat to the story), and a youngest daughter(who, like the eldest son, is insignificant). Janay plays her part so well that she seems more like Holden's oldest sister, aunt, or mother rather than the baby sister. She is that critical piece that knows just what to do--whoever has a problem! But, then again, she seems to be a practicing Christian and God will lead us to what we need to say, do, or--in most situations--what we desire of Him(putting the desire of your heart verse side by side with there's a time and a season for all things verse leads me to believe that there is a time to have the windows of heaven close occasionally and; whereas, that scripture from the NT leads me to believe that almost every time that a Christian asks having the key to unlock a certain blessing from the kingdom of heaven, then it will be unlocked. Sometimes, that's fasting and prayer and/ or love)! My point is simply that--if she was a born-again Christian--then I could definitely see where she would know exactly what to say and do! So, Janay played the Christian role well and it was well written! Z runs into a combo of criminal trouble and rebellion after his mom's death--which forces him to mature before it's too late! Z's friend gets molested by a his mom's boyfriend. Holden both flashes back about Ri and imagines her throughout!
Now, the fight scene lacked really good acting; it looked like cheap wrestling rather than an actually fight. The basketball camera work was one of the worst that I ever seen! Plus, the basketball kids' playing basketball scenes were not well done.
Orphan (2009)
The Only Reason This movie is even possible is because of the race of the people in the movie "Orphan" and, from these rudiments, they made a super film!
Lifetime Version is probably a whole lot cleaner; though, I cannot say since I've never seen the DVD version. SPOILERS IN LATTER PART.
A married couple already having a boy and girl that are very school age(younger than 7th grade) plan to have another kid. The couple has plenty of money and plenty of love for kids, but the marriage itself is really held tenuously together by lust and big problems that are always ready to surface at a moment's notice. The husband has had issues with infidelity in his past and the wife has had problems with drinking(maybe brought on by his infidelity, but this drinking causes her to be more neglecting than a parent should and she typically would). Anyway, they are 30-ish(young) and very attracted to one another with the aforementioned things as a backdrop, so they try to have another child naturally but to no avail. They consider adoption and they fortuitously land in the web of Esther. Esther instantly becomes irresistible in a child-like way to the couple. At first, Esther appears only to be a very odd genius, but she does very horrible things around the couple's deaf little girl and the boy(who considers her a freak due to how she talks, dresses, and how his friends view her). The boy knows about Esther killing a bird, but strange things are happening all over the place that force him to press his sister for details. She knows Esther's true nature and he drags it out of her. As kids are wont to do, though, he doesn't hide this info well enough and Esther finds out. He becomes the next victim. Esther has also been doing something else this whole time: as child would act that was older than they say or that had reached puberty early, she is secretly attracted to adult men and plays on the couple's history to try to tear them apart so that she can have her husband. Like I said earlier, the husband's only real interest in his wife is lust; he does not love her; if he did, he would listen to his wife(who knows Esther is responsible for all of the negative happenings there-- regardless, of what Esther says or does). If he loved his wife, he might not have become a victim. He trusts Esther more than his wife and cannot see the forest for the trees--so to speak. The wife stays at the hospital and he takes Esther and his little girl home. She comes on to him, but he rejects her. So, now, he is her enemy, too, and victim! The funny thing is that while he does not love her, she loves him to death! The wife gets a crucial piece of intel, as she has been seeking every since she became very suspicious of Esther. And heads home to warn her husband, when he isn't answering his phone. A battle between a mother, her little girl, and Esther begins! And Esther has the gun!
SPOILERS: This movie would not be in the least bit believable if not for the natural race of Esther. Look at the facial features of white kids and adults; in MANY cases, there's not much difference at all; it's surprising in fact! Look at the kids' features(both) in that movie and the adults. It's why this movie could actually take place--if you respected your adopted child's privacy enough to not pry; but also, why the movie "Little Man" COULD NOT! That's one of the differences between white and black natural development! A black adult--as in Little Man--could not pass for adult. ALSO, some dwarfs do not have the different eyes, etc.--meaning they can really have normal features, too! This makes Orphan all the more believable; it could happen--IF THE PARENTS RESPECTED HER PRIVACY AND THE CHILD FIGURES OUT A WAY TO LIE TO GET OUT OF A COUPLE OF DENTAL AND DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENTS. STILL, IT WON'T WORK FOREVER, AS THE CHILD EVENTUALLY HAD TO GO TO ONE OR THE OTHER. AND SEEING HOW THE CHILD WAS ADOPTED, YOU WOULD GET THINGS LIKE THAT DONE BECAUSE OF AGENCIES SWOOPING IN AND THE CHILD IS NOT YOURS. IT WAS NEVER MEANT TO BE PERMANENT, BECAUSE SHE WAS GOING TO EVENTUALLY MAKE HER MOVE ON THE HUSBAND WHEN SHE HAD TO. IN LITTLE MAN, IT WASN'T A PERMANENT ARRANGEMENT, EITHER, BECAUSE HE WAS A CRIMINAL.
The Living Christ Series (1951)
Racist and Omitting Key Material--illuminati like or almost like that
Two main problems with this movie out the ones that I've watched so far: 1. The American Caucasian race of the actors; this is a failing of almost every American biblical film of the day and it even happens today more times than not. The problem with that is that potential Christian converts believe a lie and make assertions that the religion is racist! Muslims say that the Christian Jesus is an American Caucasian and most of them are not. Many of them use this lie to mock/blaspheme Jesus and Christianity! Therefore, a Muslim is easily manipulated by using this lie. Jim Jones was able to draw some, because Jesus was always depicted as an American white man and the American white men was racist. His pitch--in turn--was to be multiracial. Even then, no one besides an Uncle Tom or a zealot in favor of another race wants to join a religion where no one looks like them. The bible truth makes Jesus a traditional Jew--which is one of the few races that look close to 50% white and 50% black. Honestly, I don't think this is a coincidence. So, why spread a lie that disperses and keeps people from studying the bible rather than a truth that leaves people without an applicable excuse? Unless you are a racist, what could your excuse be for not following a doctrine deemed by you as true if the human form of the Lord is 50% black and 50% white. 2. It omits key details-- such as parts of the Lord's prayer and Jesus' baptism--seemingly for no reason! It would only have taken an extra 1-2 minutes in both cases to get it right. Other than that, great!
Predator (1987)
This movie is so great from a theatric watching standpoint, you could probably get many women to give it a real shot--though it was geared for men, obviously!
None of these types of movies ever deal with poisonous snakes. And the way they are in the crevices of the jungle they should run into some. The predator creature can be invisible, yes, but he can't outrun bullets nor can he avoid fire that comes directly at him; he might be in an invisible state, but(if you shoot in the direction that he was when he disappears before he moves) you hit him and fatally wound him with those 100s of rounds per minute weapons they were using. If this was not true, then how did they ensnare him in one of their traps or hurt him at times when he was invisible?! THE PREDATOR WAS ONLY HIT ONCE OR TWICE ON THE LEG WITH ALL OF THOSE BULLETS FROM NEARLY EXECUTION RANGE?! C'MON NOW! And the Hispanic lady native to a remote village can speak fluent English and so well that her accent almost completely goes away! Big random set fires in a heavily wooded area are a very bad idea insomuch as you put your own life in danger!
Other than that, it was a great movie! Still, if the Predator was killed when Mac fired all of those bullets(and he should have been by all of the bullets coming at him immediately), then it's over right then and there! Yet, for the most part, you'd rather the villain gets the breaks than the hero, because(the villain doesn't typically win and if the hero wins by too much fortuitous or critical help that doesn't make sense) it really cheapens or discredits the victory and makes the movie less worthwhile or even bad. Even the cussing/mature talk isn't so bad that you can't think! It's more spaced out than almost all other movies with a fair amount of cussing/mature talk on them.
Benji (1974)
A little slow and you have to be patient, but even then you can admire just how smart he is, then, it takes off!
A little slow if you've never seen it before or have no frame of reference(like I didn't) for Benji initially. I think it may be way too slow for most of the ADHD crop of kids today. But, trust me, if you're a mature movie watcher, then you'll be rooting for Benji to find a home and wonder just how that positive outcome would come about. They had a really creative way to add drama to it, too.
Benji is like the Urkel of dogs without the clumsiness. Thirty to forty minutes are spent just giving you a ballpark figure of how smart he is. Then, the end tells you exactly how smart! This dog is probably the smartest dog in the history of TV and I know that you've had some really, really smart dogs before, but I don't think they are anything like this! Most smart dogs are kids with hyper memories and shepherd ability! Look at this dog and you'll "swear" you were looking at a man with those capabilities! He trains a dog, remembers things that keeps him safe, acts better than anyone on set, carries out a complex routine every day, and masters human psychology so well that he might be smarter than your average adult! I bought this movie on a whim and definitely do not regret it all!
On this type of movie, many white folks reviews might mean little--as they are mostly animal lovers and a movie like this is easy for them to fall in love with--but I'm a black man that has no frame of reference to Benji and would not be considered an animal lover at all!
Prom Night (2008)
The main problem with this movie is that Steven King had nothing to do with it! Misery has its CRITICAL problems, too, but I wonder how people rate that?!
One problem for this movie in my opinion is the wild body placements: a loft or a car trunk on the outside?! It's possible that he could have gotten outside with a body--if he was clandestine enough; there is a network of stairs and police were busy guarding the prom and extra security was on Donna. Second entrances should be accounted for always(IT'S STANDARD OP FOR A ROACH OR RAT TO OPERATE WHERE PEOPLE WILL NOT LOOK AND A COP SHOULD THINK LIKE A CRIMINAL IN ORDER TO GET HIM), but sometimes they get overlooked. The loft's kind of iffy; they should have lost that, because that would mean getting blood on the carpet and for him to be a major bodybuilder: he didn't look like the type! Why go through the trouble of doing those 2 things when there's space under the bed. What hotel has one of those anyway?! The other one would be how the bodies kept conveniently popping up out of nowhere as the cops or Donna was passing by from the hiding space that the killer hid them WITHOUT REASON! I don't have problem with Donna's lack of emotion; she's lost her family and probably having post traumatic stress over this guy since; her emotions and emotional states are maybe beyond repair outside of divine intervention! Misery has bigger problem than this movie and I'm sure it got a pass; after all, Stephen King was behind that! Problems with Misery: 1. Him rolling around in a wheelchair as he did when Wilkes was probably going to be back within an hour or sooner! We have lived in a rural setting all my life and it took us about 20 minutes to go to the store at most no matter where we have lived at. So, he did not have all that time to go lazily through the house. 2. Then, he had stolen the pills; I accept that, but the knife?! And Paul didn't think repercussions were coming when his nurse had a medical chest full of things to do to him and could implement them whenever she wanted?! 3. Also, why would Paul have to write Misery back to life, if Annie burned his manuscript that never got published? THESE ARE 3 CRITICAL ERRORS THAT DOOM THAT MOVIE FROM BEING COMPLETED! To me, Prom Night has small errors compared to that classic!
End of Watch (2012)
This movie is a cuss-fest without much substance!
Past reference: I've heard of movies that had a lot of cussing and were actually funny: Harlem Nights. I've heard of movies that had a lot of cussing and were actually pretty good horror films: Nightmare on Elm Street 3. I've heard of movies that had a lot of cussing and could hold your interest or had an invaluable message: American History X or Dark Blue. I've heard of movies with a lot of cussing where most of the bad guys get caught or get caught up and the movie is a quality one: Goodfellas or Casino. This one opens with probably more cussing than any of those movies have early on before they can even get the movie off the ground! The cops(ALL OF THEM) cuss like gangsters and the gangsters cuss like well gangsters and nothing is going on besides an amateur youtube video op early on! Video producers, script writers, actors/actresses, and directors just don't get it; if actors cuss a lot(esp. without anything else going on), some people see your movie as classless or even a confusing pile of dung! Why not eliminate the cussing as much as possible and leave it up to people's imagination?! Mature people know some people cuss a lot, but why burden us with this and not cover it like you do in almost all love scenes?!
Even if a movie is an all time great movie, cussing makes me just cringe and not want to watch anymore or for a long, long while or again! I definitely am FAR less likely to recommend a movie if there's a lot of cussing! Why cater to people that aren't discerning when most of these people watch LMN and used to watch network movies on movie nights. Therefore, if you look only at the discerning people(people that care about morality), then the people that don't discern(people not caring about morality) fall into place. That's because anyone can and will watch a movie with morality in mind if it's a good movie, but some people WILL NOT WATCH a movie that is a moral graveyard even if it's good! Then, there's more recommendation coming from more people, too, if it is both a good and moral movie.
Most Lifetime, LMN, old network movies, etc.(Bitter Blood; Love, Lies, and Murder; Too Close to Home; Fat Like Me; Odd Girl Out; and Orphan and Derailed{the latter 2 were even shown in family friendly versions yet probably losing no value over their Hollywood versions} are among those) in a collection that are also "good" far exceed HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, etc. "greatest" collection(Harlem Nights, Good Fellas, Casino, Dark Blue, and American History X are among them). With the former group, there's no cringe factor(your conscience) while you watch them and you can watch most of them with your kids(except the oversexed or gay ones; the gay ones I would not watch at all). My comparison was between the cussing movies and not to show you that it can be done and well.
Also, there are movies like Enemy of the State, Enough, and Training Day that are fringe movies that I own, enjoy, and watch. Still, movies that resemble "End of Watch" in any way should not be done in the future or toned down quite a bit! Hey, I'm all for all movie companies deciding to "network" it! For me, I bought it due to the great reviews trying to find a new movie, but it--like so many others--is more than likely trash! I could not get past the tsunami of cussing early on! I might try to stomach it to see if the movie has any redeemable qualities, but I SINCERELY REGRET THAT I BOUGHT THIS(EVEN FOR LESS THAN $4) AND WOULD NOT RECOMMEND UNLESS YOU CAN ACTUALLY THINK WITH CUSSING COMING AT YOU INCESSANTLY! STILL, THAT DOESN'T SAY MUCH FOR YOUR CONSCIENCE AND IT IS A CRY FOR Christian HELP. I think I'll start going to youtube and at least streaming the first 20 minutes(slow connection) and watching it before buying in the future despite seeing great reviews from 3 review sites and saying NO to hurriedly buying movies without scanning them first. I ONLY WENT THROUGH MAYBE 20 MINUTES AND IT WAS FULL OF CUSSING(HEED THAT 17 YR OLD WARNING AT THE VERY BEGINNING, PLEASE) AND WITHOUT MUCH GOING ON AT THAT TIME, TOO, MAKING IT WORSE THAN KICKBOXER 2(IF THE MOVIE KEPT PROGRESSING LIKE THAT)! I NEVER THOUGHT I'D SAY THAT A MOVIE COULD POTENTIALLY WORSE OFF THAN KB2!
Sin & Redemption (1994)
When you take something precious from someone else, God might just take away something as precious from you!
Billie McDaniel is a "good" girl, who gets raped and gets pregnant. Her hypocritical dad(or who sins once in a very critical spot) accuses her of going against God's ways just like her ne'er do well older sister! He compels her--out of caring for her and shame of how the community and church will look at him now--to give the baby up. She is the loving type who would never do such a thing, but she respects her dad so much that she heads in that direction and gets a couple of fortuitous bounces that stops her just in the nick of time! Jim, the man who raped her--unbeknownst to her, steps in to marry her and raise who he knows is his daughter. Life goes on from bliss to the state of worrying Jim and (THE OBJECT OF HIS LUSTFUL OBSESSION) fertile Billie until his daughter needs a kidney donor...All I'll say is that God sometimes takes the scenic route to deliver His vengeance! A movie that could very well happen just as the movie: A good girl who honors her parents, a churchgoing or minister dad who has had one daughter go in a sinful direction blames the younger daughter of doing the same based on how things look(looks to him like her sister has rubbed off on her), the good girl gets raped in a way that she doesn't see him, and he wanted her then and wants her now(his part is also believable, because it's my belief that a rapist can love. A criminal can love--if only for periods of time or when not drunk. Some rapists or killers have lived lives of love and go out and take whatever frustrations they have out on others! Then again, there are some men and women who abuse their families and then treat most others with love!)
Not much wrong with this movie except Jim is a little too forthcoming when talking to Billie at the end. Can you say too much information? Anybody that has seen this movie knows what I'm talking about. He says a little(all that he really has to say) and she's fine with that, but he goes all explicit as if in English or Oral Communication class and messes up BIG TIME!
The Perfect Boss (2013)
Pay attention close the 1st time and it will save you the trouble of watching again!
It's one of those movies that you watch the 1st time and you'll give it an 8, because your standards are not really high. The time that I looked more closely at the minor details, I give it a 4! Plenty of errors in the writing of this one. A prostitute claims she could not make out what the criminal looks like in the night, but somehow she's able to tell what's on his license plates from a distance. Then, her friend just so happens to be an IT tech wannabe, which she needs to find out who murdered her dad! The executress allows her mother to blackmail her over a murder that happened when she wad a kid! Then, she just so happened to know when her mom would be in the tub, despite being out of her house for 6 years or more! The director did not care about 20-something lady's acting either. When her dad died, she felt like she let him down and she did not cry! A husband dies out of the blue and he looks like he's been cut in the face.
The stock option part does make sense(probably the only major part that does make sense), because the 2 execs really did not care about the company--only about getting paid. A problematic miracle drug would swamp a company with lawsuits, but they didn't care. The reason why it makes sense is because the 2 execs got paid and left-- regardless of what happens to the company.
Iron Man (2008)
Don't let the flood of great reviews fool you, this might as well be a coaster!
Positives: the suit looked great! He flies once or twice. He fires once or twice!
Cons: 1. The origin of Iron Man should have been adapted more to movies rather than keeping the same comics version. Sometimes, it's great to stick with the origin. This is not one of them. Mainstream audiences knew nothing about it and it's very bad; that's when you do away with an origin. Tony Stark is supposed to be an electrical-mechanical genius, not a medical one. He'd have to be a medical genius as well to pull off what he accomplished. Parts of the suit keep him alive and that's medical and knowing how to merge the 3 technologies almost perfectly is what he'd have to know how to do! In my opinion, they should have allowed Stark to be shot close to his heart or have an explosion where shrapnel gets into his heart maybe 20-30 years later than the 2008 date where medical science has made monumental leaps forward. They put an electronic/mechanic device in his heart that is typical with his injury. Then, he builds upon that to create Iron Man. 2. The things he whipped up in the movie where just plain silly! Iron Man's metal inorganic suit is supposed to act like Spiderman's symbiote(a living organism or entity)! That's why I never liked Transformers at all! Metal does things that no inorganic thing can and you certainly can't do it mentally as Stark was able to. 3. Iron Man does very little as a superhero. A flying scene(or possibly 2) and a blast scene(possibly 2). He does lift a heavy car. 4. The villain was super awful and the fight was worse. 5. The plot was boring! The acting was bad, too!
I honestly don't know what can make you give this garbage even a 5! I used to read Iron Man when I was younger and liked it then. I bought this movie, but trashed it! That bad!
Little Man (2006)
A believable idea, but something went wrong with the application.
It's possible and believable had they made "Little Man" 5--maybe 6--and white. Look at the head and facial features of some white adults and then kids. If you watch the movie "Orphan" look at the head sizes and facial features on those kids and look at the adults in the same movie. Also, there is a condition where people are really short, but have normal adult faces when they mature. A white person with such a condition might pull it off, because their faces allow it. Many white kids have adult heads and adult facial features, so their features almost cross over. The only thing would be that whoever you got would be an acting novice. Black adult faces have features that no black kid would have, so how could you trick someone into thinking that an adult was a child when that outcome of having everything line up as it does naturally in many whites would be like someone winning the lottery of world?! That's what made it all wrong! The problem was not really with the idea, but the applicative vision. It seems like to me that once the idea had been put out there, KIWayans should have been asking himself what scenarios allow this to be believable. If he did his homework, then those are 2 of the scenarios listed above.
Her Deadly Rival (1995)
A strange movie in a good way, but once you watch it once it'll never be nearly the same!
It's one of those movies that you watch once on network TV or Lifetime. That's because all it has going with it is the ending(everything meaningful "decompresses" once you know) and, once you KNOW, you won't feel the same way about it! If you're a first time viewer of this movie, then don't look at the spoilers. I'll rate as far as different viewers. First time viewing: It rates a 9. After that, a 5! Some movies you can watch over and over again and have an enjoyable experience, but not this one, though. To give you some idea, Enemy of the State, Along Came a Spider, and Bitter Blood(Lifetime movie: Dr Leary; Suzy Q; Fritz{Jim in this movie}; etc.) are some realistic thrillers that either you can watch over and over again or watch again periodically and still enjoy it almost as much as the first time. This movie is a one watch or rental at best.
Jim leaves his wife Kris to take a job that's too good to pass up. After going to a local bar there that his fellow coworkers frequent, he gets a secret admirer caller. He never seeks to do anything with her nor does he, despite her unbelievable yearnings for and wooing of him. Kris was either seriously in love with Jim and/or extremely doting! She shows up--as the secret admirer is weaving her "web" to try and win Jim's affections. The admirer leaves evidence everywhere for Kris to find and even poisons her. The editors of the supposedly true movie have creative ways of throwing you off and also throwing a little hint in of who she might be until the end happens. They reveal who the high ranking officer believes the person is at the end; even then, you'll have a TINY bit of doubt as to whose theory to believe--the high ranking officer's or Jim's. The end is explosive and unpredictable, but it only works once! The strange thing about all this is that it is really an occurrence that could happen to anyone. Great the first time!
Sour Grapes (1998)
Average movie with some funny and thought provoking moments, but could have been so much better with a little work
Poss Spoilers: PROS: 1. Great idea for a movie. 2. Has Twists(goes in directions that you never thought it'd go). 3. Had some funny moments. 4. Makes you have to think sometimes to find out what's going on! 5. The poor people ruining Richie's home might make you cringe!
CONS: 1. Has too many twists(poosibly 1 too many); therefore, making the ending sloppy--at best! 2. Characters were just there and not developed(it's like they gave a 6th grader the idea and told the kid to run with it). 3. Evan's character should have been poor; that way, it would have made for an even more thought provoking movie! You would have felt sorry for Evan, if that had been the case. As it was, Richie was a super creep who you(viewer) let off the hook somewhat due to Evan being rich. Sometimes, you(Richie) just should feel obligated to ask do I need to compensate you. 4. The actor named Barry Pepper(of the Friends-like TV show) should have sued or forced Evan to settle out of court--instead of what he actually did as revenge. 5. Richie's plan regarding his mom was sloppy(and narcissistic); in real life, it wasn't practical; see it for yourself! There's no way to ensure that things would likely go the way they did in the movie. There's a comment between the 2 cousins that make reference to poor people as bums and both acknowledging this ignorance!
Two cousins are married; Evan and his wife are rich; while, Richie and his wife are middle class or poorer than middle class. Richie's mother, Selma, stays with them(revealed later that the property is--for all intents and purposes--his). The couples, while out on a casino outing one night, are playing at the casino. Richie runs out of quarters for his slot machine, Evan gives the 2 that to him that he is missing, and Richie wins the $436,000+ jackpot with those quarters. You'd think that since it's free money that Richie would offer Evan half! Evan, though rich, wants half! Richie, meanwhile, shows how frugal he is and--in totality--offers Evan checks for $1,000(first) and, then 3%! Selma doesn't help, as she's like Richie's parrot(on his side) and his wife says give him something meaningful--if not a half! It becomes a war! Neither wife can take it and leave; Evan pulls a nasty prank on Richie(and Evan is consumed to the point that he goes from being super doctor to making a CRITICAL ERROR at work); and Richie does something wild and crazy after Evan's prank(Evan's tantrum)! Evan "resends" his prank(but has trouble getting past his error), but Richie cannot resend his wild and crazy action. Richie is forced into being lucky to avoid prosecution, but receives some bad luck at the end that have a reap-what-you-have-sown effect! I tried to leave out what I could to let you watch it for yourself.
The Dollanganger Saga: Flowers in the Attic (2014)
Great movie quality wise, but biblical and moral refuse(NOT THE INCEST, EITHER).
My problem is not with the incest, as we know that's wrong! And the guy and girl weren't actually brother and sister. Plus, a storyteller has the right to tell a story of incest--if they want! The problem with this movie is the age of the youngest of the two and the difference between a 12-14 year old and an 18 year old, esp. when the oldest is a man! Wasn't Shipka(Cathy) too young?! You have an adult in almost mature love scenes with an ACTUALLY younger than 15 yr old girl! Don't they usually cast young looking 18 year olds for these roles?! You mean they couldn't find someone like that for this role! You open a statutory rape issue, unnecessary hormone infusing(with a young girl), possible addiction, possible suicide, etc. that goes along with introducing sex into a child. It may be going on, but it shouldn't be and should be tastefully done when the story is told in a public forum. You may even create a hormonal relationship not built on love between the two. Where were the parents of this girl(she was 12-14, depending on what info you believe)? It seems like severe neglect charges should be brought up against them and it seems like all profiting parties(Lifetime) should be severely criminally liable(crime happening for hire) for what happens in the movie! Great movie otherwise, but sometimes there are more important things than the quality of a movie! A pervert or pedophile manifesto(Lifetime edition)!
Posse (1993)
Very Good movie--if you leave your stereotypes, western biases, and prejudices at the door!
Not overly dramatic; most westerns aren't. Honestly, I thought it was better than Tombstone. Don't be a fuddy-duddy bigot and think all westerns have to be Caucasian-- if it's a good movie say so. Colonel Graham(Billy Zane, I think) is hyper funny in this movie--keeping your interest all the way. His bantering back and forth with Jesse(MarioVP), Lil Jay(Baldwin), and the others was something else! If you don't like Mario Van Peebles' movies, don't let that keep you from seeing this movie! I don't remember liking any other role that he does in any other movie(except possibly Mama Flora's Family), but I do give him an A for this. He acted "seriously" as a leader of men. If you only looked at Jesse Lee in this movie, you would be thinking that he's a Denzel or Hanks type actor. Then, add in Blair Underwood(He is the main Uncle Tom: Carver), Mario's real life dad(Melvin, I believe), Big Daddy Kane(father Time), Sheriff Bates, and "Denzel's wife" in Antwone Fisher/FBI agent in Ransom(Jesse Lee's lover). There are also other famous stars(Grier, VelJohnson, Hayes, etc.) in minor roles. Meteor Man once tried to do a similar thing(a lot of good to very good actors in one place), but that movie has nothing at all on this! It seems like everyone did a pretty good or better job. What's under the hood? It's a western that has humor, harmonious characters, and war between people just trying to survive(with only agility, amateur gun, and a few fast guns and able fighters on their side), and extremely racist people and their allies(with military weapons on their side). A few gunfighting scene seems a little surreal; most of them seems at least good. It also was well written. That being said, tiny parts appear to be illumatic in nature: the alternate religion and calling its doctrine the good book(bible has been called that) and crafting a king David(who had moralistic, but antibiblical beliefs). There are also 2 scenes of nudity(confined to the same area of the movie at about 1/2-2/3 way in): bathing in water and sex scene.
Facing the Giants (2006)
Great message throughout, but can a Christian movie go beyond excluding minorities--to making them submissive
One of those movies that would have been better if it wasn't as if it were done by a churchgoing skinhead. Almost every minority is in some kind of submissive role whether that's getting brutally tackled, being defeated by a white quarterback(or on the opposing team), being shown in background or in practice drills(none good enough to start), being a nearly all-white cast(1 affirmative action black actor), etc. It seemed blatant! Christianity is about converting whites, blacks, Middle Eastern, Eastern, European, Hispanic, Indians, etc. to Christianity. It's one thing to exclude them, but to go that extra mile to make them submissive is yet another. Also, it's about not doing things that are unnecessarily offensive to weaker individuals(not converts or not on your level yet). I think Paul of the bible said that. Blacks that aren't Uncle Toms or Aunt Theresas will likely be offended by this movie! Isn't a Christian trying to win their soul, too?
Movie had a great message, though. God can help you through anything, if you trust him. Nothing's impossible for God! Georgia High school football coach Grant Taylor and his wife suffer greatly early on through losing football, financial difficulty, being fired, and infertility, but face it together as Christians. With urging of a Christian, he becomes more proactive with his Christian faith. His approach starts a movement within the players and the school. As Grant becomes more Christianly proactive, he gets blessing after blessing from God. It seems like everything either gets a good bit better or becomes outstandingly better. So good are these things that he is tearfully happy with almost every one! It seems when he has gotten giddy with one here comes another! Side stories: Coach light-heartedness/drama with coaches, Football player and his rich dad, a Backup kicker and his dad, Losing, the winning and playoffs, infertility, prayer, Christian talk. I don't want to spoil the movie, but it has a good bit of twists and drama.
Cujo (1983)
Cleverly done attacking dog story and better than Misery, because of Misery's critical errors
Possible Spoilers, but did not give away the ending! Donna Trenton is a mistreated homemaker wife: subtly evident to this is how much money her husband Vic makes and yet he drives a Jaguar and she drives a broken down Pinto and she regularly has to run errands with their--younger than 6 yr old--son, Tad. What a creep! She carries on a vindictive affair with his best friend, Steve. Despite what she did is probably more wrong than what he did, most wives that felt that they were desirable enough to have an affair and married to a man like that would be doing just that. She probably should have let Vic know what she was feeling first(even though, it should have been obvious to him); that way, she has communicated and made a record to him. Anyway, as I said, Donna drives a Pinto that is in such bad shape that it could stall any time she tries to start it. Instead of Vic getting the car repaired by professionals or getting his wife a new car, he checks into servicing the car at Joe Camber's country home. At this first visit, their dog(and same breed as the dog Beethoven), Cujo, shows just what gently kind of dog he is by playing with Camber's son and little Tad. Some changes are on the horizon for Cujo, as due being bitten by a rabid bat and the huge size of Cujo, he gradually becomes an unpredictable monster from gentle to even little kids to a readily aggressive, serial killer. The change becomes complete about the time that Camber's wife decides to visit family and takes her son(Cujo's only stabilizer) with her. Meanwhile, Vic finds circumstantial evidence of Donna and Steve's affair, then she admits it in an awkward moment. Vic(instead of seeing his issues and talking it out) leaves in a kind of vindictive, self-righteous anger. He leaves Donna to handle business with Camber herself. Cujo has killed Joe and his friend since the Camber's wife left. So, there is no one nearby when Donna and Tad come rolling in. Donna confronts a 180° different dog than Tad played with on his first visit. He even gets to where he just attacks Donna or the Pinto with every movement or sound. That is, until a police officer comes out, as result of Vic possibly developing a conscience or missing his wife--trying to find the whereabouts of his wife. The dispatched cop doesn't know to expect Cujo and is killed by the time he knows what is going on. Tad's natural "allergies" to monsters have also turned to shock with real life monster Cujo attacking his mother and the Pinto and the hopelessness of the car not starting. Donna is getting more and more desperate with the worsening Tad. Anyway, Donna has tried unsuccessfully at least twice to reach the Camber's house and phone. That will change; watch to see how.
Hide and Seek (2005)
Contains critical errors that effectively erase the ending
Some movies--not all--are like connected links in a chain; if you break one, then the whole movie falls apart. Thrillers are one of those kinds of movies. This movie has two of those when it cannot afford one: (1) If Charlie is Emily's dad and she knows who he is all along, then why doesn't she appear overjoyed to be in Charlie's(her dad: David's) presence when she is pleased with Charlie earlier? She instead acts as if her dad is a her dad rather than a friend. (2) How can Charlie be in Emily's closet when David is in another room when Charlie scares David's girlfriend out the window? Pretty good movie without those SERIOUSLY CRITICAL flaws mucking this one up.
Dark Blue (2002)
Well Done and Well Ended--Too Much Bad Language
Let me set the scene of the movie for you. There are two partners(1 old and 1 young) running around town fulfilling the orders of their infamous, puppetmaster boss by any crooked means necessary. The older cop(Russell)--in turn and due to the fact that his boss used to be his dad's partner--is like a son to him. He takes the younger cop under his wing--in the same way that an older brother that reveres his father would. Basically, Russell defends that man's honor to the younger cop; even though, he knows what they are doing is wrong and he often feels guilty about the murders as dead bodies start to mount by their hands. When Russell's partner(who he loved like a brother) gets shot and killed and he finds out that this father figure boss is responsible(not to mention that the bullets were meant for him), he makes plans to sever ties forever. When you add in Russell's wife and son, the young cop's beautiful cop girlfriend and her convoluted past, Ving Rhames' watchdog investigations into the corruption and his equally convoluted past, family problems, and an ending that you will never forget, you have one of the best movies of all time. It's slightly soap operatic and mostly dramatic. There's a lot going on in this one; you won't get bored; that's for sure! Training Day(a cousin as far as movies go) is better throughout(Dark Blue is close), but Dark Blue's ending is better(Training Day is close, but that shooting scene is over the top). The language is a problem, tho!
