Horrible Histories (2009)
Hail Horrible Histories!!!
I rarely watch TV. Well can you blame me? Full of sad people all with the same desperation to be on TV via reality shows, ever since Big Brother, TV has seriously gone down hill. But this amazing programme, changes it all.
I first took interest in Horrible Histories when it was just a minor book series, i bought it in my first year of high school, i only had two books, but they were seriously entertaining, and believe it or not at the age of 25 i still have them! i was flipping through the channels a year ago when i was bored and i saw Horrible Histories. and oh my, its now an obsession.
I didn't think a children's programme could ever make me laugh so so hard.
The sketches are all insanely funny, and rather interesting too, i must admit after watching certain sketches i do find myself hopping onto the internet and doing a bit more research.
The Actors & Actresses are all fantastic, i cannot find fault with any of them. My favourites have to be Simon Farnaby, Jim Howick & Lawrence Lewin.
You learn the most interesting things, how Hitler would be in such a Paddy if he was awoken from his sleep, How they identified who was guilty and who was innocent in the middle ages by eating a piece of cake! Diogenes would pee on you if you insulted him! Other sketches to consider are, The prisoner of War, life in the trenches.
They Also mimic other TV shows and use it for some hilarious gags, for example Wife Swap, Hisorical Masterchef, Apprentice, Eastenders, Gok Wans Fashion Fix (minus the Gok Wan) Ready Steady Feast and many more. I wouldn't spend a second of my time watching these shows if they were on TV, but i have watched the horrible histories versions again & again and still laugh as hard as i did when i first watched it.
My favourite character has to be Caligula, and i wish there were more of him, he reminds me of Pontious Pilate in Monty Pythons Life of Brian, but a bit more crazier, he seriously reduces me to tears of laughter, him, his speech impediment & his mallet who he lovingly names Wackus Bonkus.
There are so many other sketches, the accents are spot on and make me laugh too, and the way they give random Era's a different accent, who would think King Pepi of ancient Egypt had a southern American accent?? Well he didn't, but it made me laugh all too hard.
This sketch show is the new Monty Python, and i hope one day The Monty Python Clan & The Horrible Historie Clan collaborate to make the ultimate sketch show.
The newer series feature more songs, which are all rooted from popular cult classics, but the lyrics changed. Although i do not watch these and try to avoid them (not my style!) i will admit they are a fantastic way to help children memorise crucial information.
And the winner of Two Bafta Awards two years in a row, the show must be fantastically hilarious and amazing! You must watch it for it is truly amazing!
Taxi (2004)
Rubbish!
This Movie Is Just Rubbish!
The Only Scene Worth Praising Is The Bike Scene At The Very Start.
Everything Else Was Just Horrible to Watch, And If It Wasn't Raining Outside Of The Cinema, I Think I Wouldve Left HalfWay.
Queen Latifah Is A Good Actress, She Was Great In the Bone Collector, Why Did She Choose This Trash?? did She Want To see Herself as A Curvy Lara Croft? Her Character Belle seems To Be Infatuated With being The Best Taxi Driver In New York, And doesn't Seem to care for her Boyfriend As Much as She Does For Her car. Her Car By The Way, an absolute Joke...That much Modification for what? To Be The Fastest Taxi driver In new york? What an amazing Achievement(!)She Knows The ins and out of new York's traffic system, and is a formula one race car driver when it comes to driving...How convenient for the plot!
Andy Washburn. A cop In New york, Who Cant seem to take orders correctly! another cliché! his humour was dry, and if he cant drive properly, which idiot gave him a driving license in the first place?? thats the first time I've seen that actor, and i don't intend on watching another movie with him, hes just not meant to be an actor!
I don't intend on seeing this movie again...i would rather stare at a blank wall for the duration of the movie!
Paheli (2005)
What else can i say but EXCELLENT!
This movie was just fabulous, it had my eyes glued to the screen from start to finish! I loved it....everything about the movie, the music, the settings, the dialogues, the acting, the special effects......it was just flawless.....this movie just happens to be one of the few perfect movies we have in bollywood. The music... what can i say? It wasn't modern but it wasn't too 'villagey' for me not to love. The opening of the movie was wonderful, what a great way to start with a song! It wasn't the typical 'here is Laachi...Here is Laachi's husband Kishanlal...Here is Laachi's sister in law', the whole opening displayed each character beautifully. The song 'Dheere Jalna', has always been my favourite since i had the soundtrack for the first time and it was put in the movie wonderfully. my next favourite is the song when Kishanlal (the real guy) was remembering laachi. It was soft and touching....and in a way i could sense the emotions that the scenes were trying to show me through the song. The settings. Well can i just say for a village its very colourful....the rooms rich with decoration....it was a pleasure to look at. Some of the scenes were just breathtaking! Especially the well scene....just amazing. The dialogues were just beautiful....for lovey dovey dialogues it didn't exaggerate how they were feeling. it was just straight to the point which is what lovey dovey dialogues should be....loves not about beating around the bush! its about expressing how you feel to your loved one and the clearer the better! The film offered comic scenes which just made me laugh and I'm actually chuckling as I'm thinking about some of the scenes! they were not over the top, if they were then perhaps this movie would've been seen as a comedy rather than a unusual love story. The special effects are the best! It makes koi mil gaya look a bit cheap, (sorry to Koi mil gaya fans!) The way the ghost transformed into animals and then into Laachi's husband was wonderful.. it didn't look fake at all! It was fantastic. The fact that the film was a double role...i expected to see faint lines that show that the film strip was cut and pasted in 2...yet in this movie it showed none....they must have cleaned the strip well! The fact that Shahrukh had to approach, look at himself and talk to himself, expected me to see him look a bit far to the left or right, but yet this was spot on! Well done PAHELI, the first bollywood movie with special effect's that are just as good as Hollywood! And last but not least the acting....Wonderful, just wonderful. Shahrukhs role as Kishanlal (the real one), he portrayed the real Kishanlal as a kind man...who just thought of his business too much..he did love Laachi just only realised it when he spent it on his own at nights away from her .The fact that when he came to prove that he was the real Kishanlal he did say to his father to ask his wife to prove that he was real. Shahrukhs role as Kishanlal the ghost was sweet....You get tell that he loved her like mad...loved her every movement word, especially when she said "dhat". Shahrukh had said in many interviews that he didn't want to portray the ghost better than Kisna(Kishanlal) they were both the same person...they spoke the same, walked the same. They both loved laachi..only one was willing to risk it just to be with her. Rani was sweet....she played Laachi VERY well. At some times in the movie she acted so well that i could feel her very emotions and wanted to basically cry as she did on the screen. She was breathtaking start to finish....no wonder she is my role model. Juhi's role shouldn't be missed....despite her role seeming very small, it was incredibly big. she had a story too. The fact that her husband (suniel shetty) had left her seven years ago, her role in the movie was wonderful...she understood Laachi's pain. But seemed to keep hers to herself when the ghost came in the form of laachi's husband. Overall this movie was just fabulous from start to finish!! I suggest everyone to go and watch it!!! You definitely will not be disappointed
Duplicate (1998)
Funny......simple and FUNNY!!!
I loved this film!!!! it was great! Shahrukh Khan played 2 sides of a weird coin, one side being the slightly stupid chef and another is the crazy revenge seeking villain. First his role as Bablu choudhary, was sweet and innocent as well as funny. There were some bits when u just sit and think that bablu is idiot number 1 (the part when him and manu first meet each other). Then his role as manu dada, was good as well. He played a cool but angry looking villain, a lot of the time his eyes were watering!. BUt the best part of the film was when BABLU and MANU play each other in the film. very funny. The songs were good except for the waaji wah and the night club. I loved the mere mehboob song (and BTW who doesn't???) and the one involving both bablu and manu, it was very catchy. i didn't like shahrukh in drag, it didn't go well, the drag thing is more of a govinda thing. The film plot is funny and clever. JUHI as always amazing, and sonali...well i have to hand it to her that she did do well in this movie. just watch the movie peeps, i can guarantee that there scenes in this movie that will make u laugh your head off!!
Chalte Chalte (2003)
One simple word, BRILLIANT!!!!!
I loved this movie, from start to finish, the songs amazing (perhaps not the Sonu Nigam one) the performance of each and every one of the cast, flawless.
Let's start with King Khan, I loved the way he looked at Rani with affection the first time he saw her, it looked genuine and not some feature that was plastered on his face. The way their relationship developed, was touching and for the first time I didn't cringe after the fact that the hero run's off to woo his love before she gets married to someone else. In Every scene, he looked cool and fresh in his pale browns and muddy jeans, which was a change from most of the outrageous yellow shirt that they wear with an awful orange jacket.
Rani was beautiful throughout the movie, she wore clothes that had made me realise that my wardrobe needed updating, her makeup, did she even wear any? It looked subtle and not too over the top. Her performance was outstanding, heart-warming, I loved her every scenes, it made me want to fast forward the next scenes until she was on screen (thank god for me and my DVD player she was on the screen as much as Shahrukh) The whole movie was a great achievement and I was glad to see that the film didn't end with a big happy ending it ended with what was building a crack in their marriage, an argument.
I'm glad I purchased the film on DVD, as well as its soundtrack, it was one of my few but best buys!
Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003)
Not as good as i hoped it would be......sorry
I don't know why i did't enjoy this movie, I'm usually a fan of all the Johar movies. Why is Shahrukh the star of the recent movies of Karan Johar or the Johar family? Is Shahrukh the lucky charm that makes all the Johar movies a hit? this may be one of the reasons why i didn't like it, the fact that a little variety helps. Second i got to admit the performances were OK by Saif And SRK but i didn't enjoy Preity's performance, at some points i felt as though she was overacting, and that she needed to tone done a notch if you know what i mean. ***SPOILER*** Also the part when Shahrukh was on the boat and was trying to get Frankie's attention,i thought okay you need to tone down as well.
But i have to admit, the Aman/Rohit/Kantaben thing was funny!!
Its a movie that i watched once but would prefer the other option if i was asked to watch it again.
P.S nice to see that Sharukh's character was named AMAN, rather then the overused, Raj, RahuL or whatever else begins with R
One 2 Ka 4 (2001)
An Brilliant movie!
I loved this movie!!!! It had everything that I liked, comedy, action, sad moments, the plot was great. if your probably reading this then you probably think that i'm the type of person who likes practically anything with Shahrukh in it, but your wrong, I do dislike some other movies, for e.g. Kabhie Kushie Kabhie Gham, Kal Ho Na Ho, and others. Juhi was spectacular, every time she was on the screen at the start of the movie she made me laugh! Shahrukh had his moments that would make you want to laugh to and acted perfectly at the sad moments. Jackie was great too!!! The music, as soon as I watched the movie I immediately went out and purchased the sound track, on CD, it's amazing!!!! Like Mastana said, don't believe what the critics say about movies, just because they didn't like it doesn't mean that everyone has too, at the end of the day who are they to influence our decisions no matter what it is! Also I would like them to make a film, and see how other critics bad mouth their movie.
