All set in the 70's
10 July 2022
This could be an amazing indie film if there were less annoying music, shorter dialogues, a bit more between the flashbacks and present times.

Above all, it could have a bit more effort with a low budget, but 2 hours with so many clichés is a bit too much.

Searching for answers

Thank you so much to the director for treating the viewer with intelligence and respect. Why do we always need words when silences and images say so much? This film is brilliant in every way. Nowadays, directors tend to create long and deeply detailed stories. In this case, it all seems so simple and 1 hour and 20 minutes gives us all the right answers. What I loved the most is that every country has its own symbolism. Greek, the departure. Italy, discovering and affection. Germany, the hard truth, moving forward.

After work, every day I watch it again. Does this have a meaning? I'll leave you think about the answer. Yes or no?

Lust is not love
26 December 2020
This film is beyond the visual impact of the nudity or the sexual scenes. It is beautifully shot and directed. The soundtrack suits perfectly to the story and sequences. All the symbolism that the film shows has its own meaning - you can see it through the neon lights, the clothes/nakedness,the puzzle or Sandro's dreams. His dry lips due to the damp and hot weather makes a point too. This is what a film does, engages you think beyond what the characters say or manifest. Personally, I think the film tries to explain that love and lust are separate things and something in this case came with different people. There is also the issue that Sandro has to hide both love and lust. But sometimes you need to have both to have inner peace.

Acting
1 October 2020
This film could be a winner, but the acting made me stop watching it several times. Sometimes less is more and trying to show so many emotions at the same time confuses the viewer and it becomes silly. I loved some lines, that shows depth and intelligence. When you're too angry at others, you're angry at yourself, I guess. The soundtrack is brilliant. I expected more and I feel robbed.

A rush and a push and the land is ours
17 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Other user already wrote about the wrong translation in the title. "Los fuertes" means the forts. This films is about conquering the other part and leaving their mark. You can see that on how one of the main characters changes the other, for example the way he is not used to "sleep like that". Everything could be magnificent, except that the doomed ending could be predicted from the start. That also leaves a false scar on how gay relationships are always short and fated. To contrast thatidea there in an openness between the main characters is daring and tries make a step forward in the Chilean cinematography. True and honest, just watch it.

Painful
23 July 2020
This film looks that came from a horny teenager who is trying to reveal his true identity. Everything seems fake in this. I was painful to watch. It starts with a simple minds (band) quote. Simple minds! I rest my case.

Do you really want to hurt me?

Warning: Spoilers
What an amazing piece of celluloid! The beginning of the film is extraordinary, with the "town freaks" dancing to Jimmy's Sommerville "smalltown boy". The way the director captures the feelings of the time and of the urgency to show the inner self of the main character is truly great. The final scene where he dances is breathtaking - filled with metaphors. When the film was ending I was saying to myself: "no, this cannot end this way" and it didn't. In the end he looks at us, the spectators, and calls his name, so no more needs to be said.

Hard times
11 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This could have been a great film! What I really disliked about it is that the viewer is treated as a short sighted with a narrow mind, for instance, in the end when one of the characters says "I am black and Jewish". Yes, we had understood that by the time it is said. I liked the way the main character has a specific taste in music and is a person with a certain amount of culture and education. That should have been focused and emphasised! I thought it was silly the conversation with the mother (unsuitable for the role, seems like an older sister - poor acting, I guess). The same happened with the father. Time have changed, but feelings have not. The feeling I get is that everything was sort of predictable. Are teachers in America like that? Do they get in hallways taking students phones? Do they take about their "tubes"? Why doesn't the film ends with the graduation or he writing an email? Simple but effective. Films should move us, make us think, it is through culture that we grow and we mature ideas. I got none of that in this.

Intense, beautiful, real
21 January 2018
I do not understand why people tend to compare this film to the Hollywood one. There's so much depth in all this story that one has no possible words to describe it in a sort sentence. While the Hollywood film portraits a story of shame and of dealing with society's pressure for social standards, God's own country leads the viewer to find that love in a powerful force, that changes us, makes us believe in the future, like nature, or the birth of a creature. The smallest details are amazing, such as when the main character smiles for the first time or when the escape of alcohol to forget the hard life he has to bare ends. There is no need to say "I love you", when you show it in so many ways. This treats the viewer with respect and intelligence. A film to haunt you for a long time

Hauting
8 January 2015
Haunting is the best word to describe this film. As I was seeing it I often wondered about how it would end and probably that was the part I didn't like so much. However, I do understand what the director meant to say even in words that were not much. Alfred Molina and John Lithgow are amazing in every second. You almost feel their chemistry. I do hope this film makes it to the Oscars and they can award these two amazing people. What fantastic actors! So, once again... haunting. I saw it last week and I am still thinking about it, about life, humans, people who are cruel, getting older, being alone. It's all very simple as the music of Chopin which is there to guide all the story from the beginning to the end.

Belong
23 June 2013
This is one of the most amazing films I have seen in past months. There are some many details that you have to take into account... The fact that the director tried to establish a parallel between the army and the neo Nazi group, the main character's parents push him aside and let him into the group. To me, it's all about the need of belonging, that need we all have as humans. Another interesting fact is that there are no frequent computers, no cellular phones, it almost makes the story timeless. Lars is really a Nordic character because he does not quit when faced with trouble.

So, If you take a deep look the film is powerful, full of knowledge, love, passion. It's so sad that sometimes we have to find strength, hope, love among those who cannot grow - parents, groups, enraged people.

This film is real just like pure emotions. They slide into you and make you human.
