I have been a huge fan of Spider-Man since I was 4 years old once I started watching the 90s cartoon back in the year of 2000. And also, thanks Dad for taking me and my sister to the local library so I can read all of the comic books at the comic book section.
I really loved this movie. Even though the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies are forever my favorites, I really enjoyed this one. The very first MCU Spider-Man movie, produced by Kevin Feige and distributed by Sony. Even though it's a Sony movie, it's a part of the MCU. I enjoyed Tom Holland in Captain America: Civil War, even though he was just a small role in that film. But when I saw this for the first time, I was sold. And the dude is the same age as me, except I'm five months older than him. Tom has a future as a leading actor. He really brings the essence of Peter Parker and Spider-Man all together. He has Tobey's awkwardness and Andrew's charm, but his Spider-Man is next level. My only problem is that he is set out to be the new Tony Stark. I don't want Iron Man, Jr., I want Spider-Man to be Spider-Man. But I do love the chemistry between Robert Downey, Jr. And Tom in this film. Tony plays the sort of father figure/mentor of the film while Peter tries his best to impress and prove him to become the next new Avenger. I really loved Jon Favreau as Happy in this as the kind of "big brother" to Peter. Marisa To-May (get it?) was actually a good cast as Aunt May, even though I favor Rosemary Harris' in the Raimi films. And seeing Pepper Potts in the end was a breath of fresh air.
But Michael Keaton. Wow... just wow! I have been clamoring for the Vulture to appear in a Spider-Man movie ever since it was confirmed to have the character in the 4th Raimi film to be played by John Malkovich, but that didn't happen. Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes aka the Vulture was outstanding! Instead of being a scientist who created the wings at Oscorp, he is a salvage worker who was hired to salvage the destruction from the New York Battle in The Avengers until Damage Control comes in to take care of the rest of it, leading Toomes and his salvage company to go out of business. Toomes becomes a scavenger to go to all the aftermaths that happens every time there was an attack on Earth. Him and his crew develop high tech weapons and sells them to the highest bidder (street level criminals). That is until Spider-Man sticks his nose into Toomes' business. Toomes is accompanied by The Tinkerer and Shocker's 1 and 2 (Jackson Brice, who dies accidentally, and Herman Schultz, the OG Shocker). Even Donald Glover appears as Miles Morales' uncle, Aaron Davis aka The Prowler. I know my Spider-Man villains, lol. But Michael Keaton did an outstanding job as Toomes. He was intense. I mean, come on, my favorite Batman actor comes back in the superhero world as one of my favorite Spider-Man villains. That scene when he was intimidating Peter in the car, made me terrified. The green light just simmers onto Keaton's face, and it was a chef's kiss. Mwah!
And now the feel of the movie, I got John Hughes vibes from this film. I loved Ferris Bueller's Day Off and The Breakfast Club, and it felt like that when I watch this movie. It totally felt like a high school movie. I really liked Zendaya was Michelle. She was a pivotal role in the film, but I enjoyed the character which is a new iteration of the Mary Jane Watson character in the comics. At first I thought I was gonna be annoyed by Ned, played by Jacob Batalon, but I grew to love this character. He had so many funny moments, I had to laugh because it was that funny. And the potential love interest, Liz, I really liked her character. Finding out her dad was Adrian Toomes, my jaw dropped. I didn't expect that to happen.
I thought Michael Giacchino's score was very well composed. And the action and effects are just eye opening to see. Very amped up than the Raimi and Webb films.
Overall, I give Spider-Man: Homecoming a 9/10.
