Maestro (2023)
A love story not a biopic!
If you want a biopic, watch all the archival footage on YouTube. If you want to see a movie about famous people in love and how they handle life, watch Maestro! It's an amazing accomplishment by Bradley Cooper. He wrote, produced, acted and directed this movie and he excels in every area. He put 110% into every thing he did for this film. His performance is truly outstanding. The subtle changes to his character throughout the film is masterful and Oscar worthy. Carey Mulligan gets top billing and she deserves it. She propels the story forward with every scene she's in. When she and Bradley are together it is electric. The chemistry is explosive. It is an amazing love story and stunning to watch.
The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (2022)
Tongue-in-cheek parody at it's best.
It was so well done many people didn't understand it was poking fun of the genre. So well crafted and so funny. It could have went over the edge like Scary Movie or Airplane but this show walked a fine line and kept its balance to the end. Can't wait for another season.
West Side Story (2021)
Brilliant! A Masterpiece.
How do you make a classic even better? Watch this new masterpiece. Every frame, every note, every word, every costume, every set and everything helps tell this amazing story. Overwhelmed by the songs and music. All the actors were so raw and honest. All awards are well deserved.
Country Comfort (2021)
Nashville Sound of Music
I watched all the episodes in one sitting. The show grows on you. You begin to care about the characters and what happens to them. It's funny and touching. The singing is great. Chemistry among the actors was believable. I want to know what happens now. Need another season.
Cats (2019)
It is a spectacle.
I had to write a review because I hate that people don't understand the theatricality of the original show and the movie. The stage show is a spectacle. It really has no story. It is a song and dance show with performers in form fitting spandex costumes with tails, ears, fur and makeup. The movie takes the show and heightens that spectacle with realistic sets and locations. In place of the spandex, it is now CGI fur and tails. It's not any weirder than the stage version.
What I loved about the movie is the fact that there is a story now. It is seen through the eyes of Victoria. I loved the changes to the script to really connect the cats. Adding to the Macavity story and making him more present in the story. Victoria's journey with Munkustrap as we meet all the Jellicles. Mr. Mistoffelees getting a stronger story line added so much to his solo song.
The performances were amazing. Robbie Fairchild was perfect as Munkustrap. His vocals, dancing and acting performance really helped to draw the audience into the story. Ian McKellen's Gus had me in tears. His performance is truly stunning and the work of a master craftsman. Jennifer Hudson's Grizabella was phenomenal. It was so emotionally moving. Francesca Hayward was incredible as Victoria. Her portrayal was so innocent, graceful and her Beautiful Ghosts was so haunting.
Judy (2019)
Oscar Worthy Performance
What a heart-wrenching performance by Renee Zellweger. At times I had to remind myself that this wasn't Judy Garland. Stardom is not always glamorous. The end scene and closing credits were so moving.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Worth the Wait
It took two seasons to set the stage for a new Star Trek story. But it was worth it. Reviews didn't give the story time to get the pieces into place so that Discovery fit into the Star Trek universe. After a wonderful and exciting season two, now we know how it fits and where the show will go. I'm excited for what is in store for Discovery!
