Good Time Guts!
25 September 2004
The freshest comedy I've seen in AGES!

Instead of turning a comedy into a bit of a zombie movie, they made a zombie movie into a comedy. Does that make sense? No gore is spared due to the comedy... I watched a few people leave the theatre after the first sign of blood and goo! Well done!

It left me with a taste of Office Space meets The Office meets 28 Days Later, all great in their own right! But they pull this off without spoofing, it really is a one of a kind piece of work for all those who love dry, black comedy... and bloody guts!

I highly recommend this movie to those looking for some light-hearted bloody good times! Not recommended for the squeamish or humourless...

maddeningly empty

It's not too often that a movie comes along that is so bad it makes me angry... but this is one.

I kept waiting for a laugh that never came, and was further insulted by the non-committal soundtrack. Was it supposed to insinuate girl-power? Maybe if you like country/rock uplifting go-girl artists... maybe its just me.

Mike Myers absolutely stole the few scenes he did appear in, but wasn't enough to make this movie bearable. And although it was painted a la Down With Love, it did nothing to uphold the style statement it seemed to be trying to make.

ooooh pink and blue! It stunk.

Hail Ewan McGregor!
17 September 2004
Okay, this film isn't for everyone. A little dreary, a little bleak, and the love scenes weren't always attractive, but something in the dark simplicity got me.

McGregor is incredibly versatile, I didn't think once of the bohemian poet Christian, or of Obi Wan... he's taken on an unlikeable character with a slow moving plot and pulled it off beautifully.

Tilda Swinton plays the antithesis of a Hollywood seductress, which makes some of the love scenes uncomfortable, but refreshing. The acting, as a whole, is the entire film. The action between characters is subtle and intense, and although I may be biased as an Ewan fan, I thought it was perfect for a dark, rainy night!
