Gyeongiroun Somun (2020)
Good action, good humor, kind of cringe
I really had trouble getting into the show at the beginning. It seemed very cringy and everyone looks like they're lathered in makeup. I don't watch a lot of Korean media (besides some amazing films that have been made there) so the fact that everyone looks gorgeous may just be how they cast actors. Now that I am around 7 episodes deep I'm fully invested in the show. The action is very well done. I've grown to like the comedy because the dynamic between the main cast is so good.
There are some insanely cringe moments where the show really wants you to feel sad, but thankfully the insane amount of good outweighs the bad. The show feels a bit like a shonen anime, you know where the hero progressively gets stronger throughout the series. That's my jam.
Ms. Marvel (2022)
Great start with a CW level Finish...
The show started off with a bang. Amazing direction, great cinematography, sharp comedy, good political social commentary, and pretty good action. However as the episodes went on the quality just seems to drop off a cliff. It feels like they put all their budget in the first few episodes and then just winged it.
It was tough watching that show slowly devolve into CW level drivel with no real substance and what's a shame is they had a distinctly original superhero origin story to tell and just... well turned it into a CW type family dramedy with lackluster action scenes and shiny shoehorned effects.
I hope they can salvage this with a better second season. Ms. Marvel can be dope as hell.
Yasuke (2021)
Takes me back to Ninja Scroll and Sword for Truth days.
Feels like a homage to the anime films I grew up on like Ninja Scroll and Sword for Truth. Takes me back to watching anime on the Action Channel when that existed. As with those there isn't really much here in terms of story, but the great action will keep you around. It's over before you know it. Also Flying Lotus kills it as always and I'm happy to see them compose something like this 100%.
Manhunt: Centbom (2020)
Great season - for those that haven't seen the Clint Eastwood movie
Cameron Britton is one of my favorite actors. I've seen Richard Jewell, the Clint Eastwood movie, about it all. Found myself not paying attention to a lot because of it. Still worth the watch thanks to Cameron's acting. Dude is a powerhouse of an actor.
Sh'at Neila: Pride Before a Fall (2020)
One of the best tank battles I've seen
Love this show so far. Probably one of the best tank battles I've seen. The dubbing is not the best but the filming is very competent. Can't wait to see more.
The Haunting of Bly Manor: The Altar of the Dead (2020)
Wow
T'Nia Miller literally owns this episode. Incredible.
Warrior (2019)
Great show with a terrible musical score.
Great show but man whoever scored this shows music should be fired.
Enola Holmes (2020)
I knew it!
I knew this would get some big review bombs because of some feminism elements in the movie. How anyone can give this a 1 star is beyond me. It's an enjoyable little movie meant for young ones with a positive message about becoming your own person and not letting society standards dictate what you should be doing. Good coming of age movie with some enjoyable action.
I would have rated this a 7 out of 10 but since I'm seeing such review bombs I'll give it a 10 to help counteract.
Devs (2020)
Masterwork
Wonderful. A real masterwork of a television show. Questions a lot of things and continues to be intensely intriguing throughout the season. As much as I hope for more of DEVS I also hope that this season will be it's last. The way it finishes is just perfect and not many shows get an ending like this... one which feels complete. What an absolute joy to watch. All of the performances were marvelous. Nick Offerman continues to impress the absolute crap out of me. Thank you Alex for this one man... truly.
Ragnarok (2020)
Eh... its like they brought norse mythology to the CW network.
Decently entertaining. The script and cg is on the level of CW shows though. Cinematography is pretty awesome at times though. I said to myself several times throughout that it's CW level but still kept watching. Really hope they improve this stuff because it's a great concept.
