The Jeremy Kyle Show (2005)
Who on Earth does this guy think he is?
Jeremy Kyle - wow, what a guy. This chat show is yet another attempt at trying to copy the well past its sell by date Jerry Springer malarky and it probably sinks below any depths of depravity that show ever went. And not beacuase of the topic of the day , or the carbon copy guests that mind numbingly turn out for these shows. No, it is the HOST himself! Enter Jeremy Kyle - and careful. If you don't keep applauding this guy, he will find humiliating his brain dead guests as an option to raise a cheer from the even more brain dead audience.
God help you if you are a guest on his show - which he is only to fond of reminding everyone that it is "The Jeremy Kyle Show" - and you try and answer one of his questions. You will be lucky to get a word in edgeways as Kyle is more then happy to answer the question for him, ridiculing the guest and asking for yet another ovation from his beloved audience.
Jeremy Kyle should interview himself, as he spends the most time talking and telling everyone the same old tired stories about how great a father he is and his problems with dealing with his own families drug issues.
The only reaction I got from watching this moron show, was anger and wanting one of the guests to shut him up. But the editing - blatantly obvious - would never allow Kyles ego to be shattered in this way.
Superman Returns (2006)
Emotional trip, forget the rest the best is back
Superman has long been my favorite superhero. When I was kid, I used to always beg to have Superman 2 or 3 rented from the video shop as I never had my own copy until I was old enough to buy it myself. Basically, from since I can remember, I loved the films.
My dad made a trip to London just to buy the original Superman, for whatever reason it was hard to find back in the mid 80s, and lets just say I love all four movies. Even part 4, it has some value to me as it was on cinema and the only Superman film I got to see on the big screen.
So, as life goes, you get older and you move on to other things. But when Superman 5 was announced about X amount of years back, I was intrigued. Lets not drag this out further!
Superman Returns is awesome. For me, it was like I was 6 or 7 years old again and watching something I never thought I would see in my lifetime. Another Superman movie which, thankfully, kept the theme and the original story lines in tact. Of this, I am delighted.
John Ottman, who I think did a great job on another of my favourite films Halloween H20, did a brilliant job with the music here. Sure John Williams legendary theme tune stands out, but Ottman deserves credit for keeping the music up to date yet faithful to the original film and it's superb sequel.
There is so much to speak of regarding this movie. The storyline is almost a replica of the original according to some, but it is a whole new take on it. Lex Luthor, played with a real menace by Spacey has a real grudge for Superman and he plays the act very true to the comic book Luthor. Gene Hackman was a fantastic Lex, but he was more up for laughs and had a comical act going on. Spacey has his moments of comedy but they are short and his true side shows here. He plays a very good Lex Luthor.
Brandon Routh had a near impossible job on his hands taking on the impeccible Christopher Reeve but he does a great job. In years to come, when the third sequel to this film comes out, the new generation will be looking to him as Superman and he carries both the character of Clark Kent and Superman excellently. There are a few references here where it as if almost Christopher Reeve has passed the torch on himself. This is in no disrespect, but I feel he would be proud of what Brandon has achieved with his character.
Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane, sure she's no Margot Kidder, but she does very well and I think the criticism aimed at her has been unfair. She has a complicated character and plays it true to what she is.
Jimmy Owlsen, maybe was a little too dopey. This is probably my only complaint. I didn't really get too much from this character as the previous actor portrayed him. If anything, he made Clark look too good when I feel they should maybe on an even keel.
I'm running out of time, but lets put it like this. Superman Returns is Superman 5 to me. It feels like it is, sounds like it is and better then that, it is a new start for the series without going down the infuriating road of remaking original movies just to restart them again.
Brian Singer deserves credit for making a Superman sequel. Many would have just remade the whole thing, but I have so much respect for him now.
Trust me. This is worth seeing. Superman fans rejoice, he's back.
Code 11-14 (2003)
Psycho killer or psycho cop?
This film is so stupid, so predictable and just so over the top it is quite entertaining to laugh at. The FBI guy is a complete and utter idiot; he should be keeping matters cool and calm on the aeroplane but instead he runs around like a madman throwing innocent passengers aside. He is a complete nut case; he shouts at staff and is aggressive to everyone he comes in contact with. Constantly seems to stare at people so much the twist at the end should have been that he was the killer himself.
His wife is annoying for reasons posted by previous viewers and the main villain is so obvious I wonder how films like this get the greenlight.
Bad, really bad.
Northstar (1986)
Northstar is a true cult classic
I remember watching this on TV in England when I was a kid, about six years old if it was indeed shown in 1986 over here. I have never forgotten it, certain scenes for whatever reasons were etched in my memory and I have always looked to find this childhood memory and revisit again.
First thing was find out the title: Which was very hard to find until I came across a site which gave the name and details of what actually happened in the film.
Then I came to IMDb and seeing as I was only the second post on here at the time, almost gave up any hope of finding this again.
Now, with thanks to the people who know who, I have managed to get two copies and was obviously delighted.
With some fear I might be expecting something mindblowing, I went into this excited but calmed myself down to the fact it would be disappointing if I hyped it up too much.
Needed have! This is class, and why this "pilot" was never picked up as a future series or made much more commercial I will never know. The idea is clever for 86. The acting is good for the 80s and the whole style is unique and original.
The moments I had flashbacks were the scenes in which Jack chases after the car thieves, the following scene with the dummy and the exploding head. The beginning with the exposure to the sun and the graveyard scene.
The villain I remembered as being bald but I still remember the guy, maybe the slick back look had me muddled as a kid lol.
I remember the observotory, and the near ending but I have had to pause it before I watch it as this is the scene I have wanted to see the most.
The music as well, is great. I'm a lover of John Carpenter films and scores and although he has nothing to do with this, the score is somewhat heroic and almost edgy.
From what I have seen, I had to post and give Northstar the thumbs up.
Class!!! I can now rest in peace lol
Wolf Creek (2005)
Classic
One of the best horror films I have seen a seriously long time. Hollywood need to take a lesson, and stop making remakes and concentrate on films like this. The pacing of the film is perfect, the location is excellent and the cinematography and soundtrack is breath taking.
I'm a big horror fan, and this is definitely one of the best I have seen in a LONG TIME.
To shock me, or to make me find things disturbing in a film, I can name only a handful of films and this is one of them. Thoroughly entertaining.
Snowman's Pass (2004)
Snowmans Pass is a classic!
Unfortunately, classic unintentional humour. You have to see this movie, I've seen it about 5 or 6 times now and cant wait until Marc Singer begins to lose the plot about half way in. This guy overacts but it is so funny. His dialogue and gestures are classic. The amount of times he tries to get the heroine to "talk about it" and/or "make a deal" is hilariously too many.
Using a basic laptop and pretending it has some amazing search program on it, the Three Stooges hire some blonde from Baywatch to help them track down her dead boyfriends body. But there real evil plan is to find some satellite that fell out of the sky. Curt (Marc Singer) is the boss who simply orders his cronies Hugo and Tyler about but with little success. Tyler rebels (!) and ends up getting thrown off a cliff in a hilarious stand off scene but it turns out the cliff was only about a few feet deep. Tyler then spends the rest of the film unconscious, which is no bad thing. Curt (the ultimate mastermind) then orders Hugo( Stephane Henchoz) around looking for the Baywatch girl but he falls for some insane tricks. It then turns into a scoobydoo cartoon type film with the Baywatch Blonde constantly getting the better of Curt and Hugo. The final showdown with Curt is so fantastically overplayed, it made me laugh for ages and crave the next showing off this.
I advise all to check this out for a good laugh.
