Meteor Apocalypse (2010)
Yeah.... No
Normally I am a fan of the over the top cheesy B, C, or D grade movies. The bad effects, the sub-par acting, and attempts at being basically a knock off of a descent movie that has already been made.
But I'm having a hard time enjoying this movie.
Yes despite the low quality acting, bad graphics, poor script and the kind of ridiculous plots that I live for I cannot enjoy this movie.
The movie basically goes like this. Meteor is heading to Earth, governments of the world blow up said meteor and people started getting sick from drinking the water. Main character's daughter and wife get drug away to a quarantine zone where the meteor pieces are later discovered to be heading so the man heads off to rescue his family.
The part that I have trouble wrapping my brain around is the fact that people are getting sick BEFORE the meteor crashed to earth and has time to contaminate the water.
I don't know if I dozed in the first five minutes and don't recall a really REALLY important detail. Or if the movie is just that bad. Feel free to message me if they explained how the water became contaminated prior to the meteors arrival. Because I completely missed that fact if it was stated and honestly that was the main reason I didn't care for this movie.
And yeah I am one of those people that appreciates a plot in movies. Because lets face it, even when something is really bad, it still needs to have a plot.... Even if it is not believable or realistic.
It still has to be there.
Big Lake (2010)
Awesome if you live for laugh tracks.
I just didn't get it. Maybe I should watch while under the influence of.... anything.
But it seemed to me as if the laugh tracks preceded every joke and were more of an annoyance and stuck out like a sore thumb then something that simply added to the tone of the show.
Maybe it was the timing.... maybe it was the fact that I was sober. I'm not entirely sure.
The one thing I can say is that so far the premise seems ridiculous and in no way relatable which if it is the point of the show then it sorely missed me.
The main characters of the show are not even that. They are caricatures. The main "character" is a joke and so far from reality that I don't even get the joke. But the secondary characters are even worse. OMG I'm a little brother who sneaks out and does unmentionable things for untold amounts of cash and hasn't attended school for years. Really? Cut me a break.
To me it seems that the premise is okay, guy looses job and parents money and wants to make it back for them. But he will do anything but get a job. The execution is so poor that those of us on the verge of bankruptcy won't get the thought process behind it.
Maybe I need drugs to get the joke.... if that is the case. Please someone hook me up.
Mary Knows Best (2010)
Honestly I don't know why I watch this
I love the SyFy channel regardless of what they call themselves. I don't care highly for the movies they make with their cheesy effects. But I do love a lot of the original shows. Warehouse 13 and Eureka being on top this year. Fact or Faked also has my attention.
To me a show like this makes as much sense as wrestling on SyFy. Its just an odd cousin that doesn't really fit in.
Mary knows best can be best summed up by a woman with psychic powers who has a dysfunctional family and decided to put it on TV. Honestly I never heard of Mary O before this show came about.
The best way (in my opinion) to sum up the show is as follows. I am a psychic and I have raised my three children alone. One child (as of the 3rd episode) is somewhat normal. I have one child who is obsessive compulsive with telling others how to live their lives and a chubby daughter with an average singing voice who things she is Mariah with a supermodel body.
Hilarity of ridiculous situations and delusions of grandeur is the theme.
The more I watch this show the more I feel nothing more then pity for Mary's grandchildren for having their nutty parents.
I personally don't care for drama. Nor do I think it has a place on the SyFy channel.
But that's just my two cents.
Night of the Dead: Leben Tod (2006)
I want my 90 minutes back
I am a huge fan of zombie movies. However it seems like lately anyone with a camera can make a movie. And if you want to that is fine. But for the love of all things good you should NOT be allowed to hype up a movie you were in just because you were part of it. It does no one any favors.
Thankfully I saw this on TV and didn't waste the cash to rent it. But for the first time in a long time, I enjoyed the commercials more then the movie itself.
Basically the acting was a half a step above adult movies. The sound needed a lot of work. It kept getting some type of buzzing interference at random parts, it may have been when things were edited in, who knows, I wasn't about to rewind and listen again. Overall after the first ten minutes I kept hoping the zombies would just up and eat everyone so it would be over.
If you like movies that attempt to be gory with a cup full of red water being thrown about then this may be for you. Dead Alive gore this was NOT.
This movie kind of reminded me of Day of the Dead 2 Contagion. But not in a good way. Both were forgettable and just did whatever they wanted with the plot because it was easy or convenient, regardless of how hard it was to continue watching.
Top three LEAST watchable zombie films I have ever sat through. 1 out of 10 to offset all the people involved that are giving it high marks.
2012 (2009)
If you are a fan of the science fiction genre then please read on...
If you are reading this then you are considering watching this movie. I knew what I was getting into prior to my viewing. In my mind I thought this was just going to be a popcorn movie about the end of the world.
But once I saw it I began to understand what the writers or directors or whoever where getting at. If this is the end of the world what would you do to ensure your children survive.
Besides the fact that this was the first movie that I ever spent with my hand covering my mouth.... As a moviegoer I can suspend the disbelief of how this ONE man new what to do (because he listened to the nay-sayers) and I spent the entire time watching with my hand either over my mouth or wiping away tears.
This movie was meant to be just entertainment, however, it has basis in real fact that the world as we know it may change and we as humans much like the dinosaurs might not be around to see the result.
I don't know much about the movie industry but I can say that the last movie that I saw that pulled at my heart strings this much was Deep Impact. Just the idea of putting someone else's life in front of your's made me... stop and think and then be happy. It is the most I can ask for in a movie.
Go see it if you want to be entertained. If you are looking to be funny haha amused, then go see something else. Go see it if you want an actual depiction of what will most likely happen to people when the world gets turned upside down.
Most realistically you should see it and think... What would I do for the people I love most in this world.
That's what I did and the result was more then I could have asked for.
