Oppenheimer (2023)
Overly edited, too many scenes, music too loud, poor narrative
I am shocked that this film has received so much positive attention; perhaps the hype raised my expectations too high, but urghhh.
I seriously worry that either the audiences have become dumber, or the review and promotion system has become corrupted; I expect the latter, perhaps through AI?
As a filmmaker myself, I echo the other critical reviews that for me, make this film almost unwatchable.
Way too many scenes, with inaudible dialogue, and unnecessarily dominant music; distractingly dominant music. Chaotic storyline.
God knows how much money was wasted upon the endless filming setups that didn't contribute to the story.
The fundamental filmmaking rule is to create a simple strong narrative that the audience can follow, then ensure the audio is clear, and then finally create some nice cinematography (not essential with a film like this). This definitely didn't happen.
This is probably not a review, it's therapy for audiences that are questioning if there is something wrong with them that they didn't enjoy Oppenheimer; don't worry you are not wrong.
...also, never before have I noticed bad make-up... immediately saw this on the opening scene, should have turned off then.
Uncut Gems (2019)
Unusual - Really loved this film
This is a full throttle, fun on movie that I watched in 2 x halves over 2 x nights. It might have been too much to take on in one sitting!
The energy is so overclocked that it almost creates a genre of film directing on its own.
Adam Sandler is amazing. For me, I knew that this was going to be interesting when I saw Sandler's gold framed spectacles, just something about them.
The story is simple but conpelling. The other actors also provided great performances!
Good job.
Stink! (2015)
A repeating message on a loop
The premise of the documentary is sincere and valid, so it should be watched to be educated.
But from a filmmaking perspective, the content in whole film could have been squeezed into 15-20 minutes, certainly not worthy of feature length.
Most important fact... The US has banned only 10 cancer causing chemicals within a category... Europe has banned 1,200 chemicals within the same category. Wow!
Unnatural Selection (2019)
Very informative, good job
Spend more time watching documentaries, educate yourself, and become a more useful member of society, and the planet...but remember to take everything with a pinch of salt and read between the lines.
This is a great documentary, beautifully shot at times; I learnt a great deal. Really thought provoking. Well done to Netflix for distributing this.
There is one problem with making the perfectly formed human being...it still has to integrate with society, find a job, survive, and take on all the issues that make life so hard. Oh well!
Glitch (2015)
Yet another mini series without any conclusions
Good points, great story idea, loads of sub story lines to keep you interest and questioning. Lovely acting, cinematography direction.
So why do I leave a rating if 6/10. It is because, as a viewer I feel betrayed and taken advantage of. The series ends without any resolution. The fundamental questions still remain unanswered...why are people climbing out of graves, why is there a radius of safety, who is behind all of this?
This lack of resolution is ultimately a commercial strategy to encourage a commission for another series. When that happens I won't bother to watch as I don't want to be disappointed again. Very very frustrating.
