Don't Look Up (2021)
Don't Look Up Till Then
First and foremost, when comedies are this satirical, they always get mixed and political comments. Don't Look Up did not put its foot off the pedal with political commentary thus receiving both hate and love letters. I enjoyed the political commentary and found it necessary, given the topic, and I think they handled it pretty good. It wasn't cheesy or goofy to begin with.
Pace of the movie was a little bit off putting for me, but I found the hard cuts artistically well pleasing. It seemed as to me though the sound department had the least budget and it showed in some of the scenes, but I paid extra attention to it. So, it may not seem so bad to most of the viewers.
Some CGI were God awful to watch. I thought of it as a budgetary issue but given the stars appearing in this movie, it really isn't an excuse and we're past that "but its direct to stream movie" excuse too.
Finally, after credits scenes made me say "I wish I turned it off the moment I read the first credit." Because they were stupid, terrible, and unnecessary.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Spider-Man: No Way Home was a greatly balanced fan service.
The movie did some homage to previous ones using one liners, costumes and concepts but didn't shove it on audience's face, keeping it a movie about Tom Holland's Spider-Man.
One of drags was main fight of the movie was shot in night of course to keep the finances low and waste less effort on these scenes. Apart from that, movie explored the multi-verse pretty good I believe but also understand those who oppose.
Villains' motives were much more understandable in this movie than their own respective titles. Also, Parker's turn on Strange was explored pleasingly. I also enjoyed J. Jonah's modern media personality and found it very fitting.
Directing was much better than most superhero movies.
Marketing for this movie was quite interesting. Company kept Garfield and Maguire's involvement as a secret well, excluding them from the press release for the sake of it, though each poster for the movie made me laugh out loud. They were "Graphic design is my passion." level designs looking like they were made on MS Paint.
House of Gucci (2021)
A movie that doesn't know what it's supposed to be
House of Gucci is a bad screen written, bad storytelling, well cast, easily forgettable movie. The interaction between scenes and characters are so blatant that I laughed out loud during few scenes.
The tone of the movie is so undecided that you're not sure if the scene is supposed to be serious, thrilling, or funny. It looked as to me though cast was given so little to play that they couldn't portray what they intended to do.
The motives of the characters were so vaguely communicated that no one in the audience could feel any relation. As a result, anything these characters do doesn't make any sense.
Using the name Gucci and throwing in some one liners as drama elements didn't give any fruits to this movie.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
James Gunn saves DCU?
"THE" Suicide Squad is all you need if you were thirsty for a gory super "hero" movie since the launch of Avengers like me.
Characters are funny and interesting except Harley.
Plot is goofy but successful.
Music is fitting.
Action and gore are very satisfying.
This movie made me visit my local cinema for the first time since the pandemic began and I didn't regret this decision.
Les choristes (2004)
Not Bad but Not Great Either
Even though movie pleases its target family-educator demographic, it doesn't add anything new or exciting to the genre or the art. Editing doesn't tire the audience but has no originality either.
Movies with child and young actors usually get associated with bad acting but this movie has surprisingly good acting both from adults and children.
In the other hand, boring and unsuccessful plot pulls the movie down. Unsuccessful and boring plot has been the fate of French cinema for many years now, and they try to spice it up with heartwarming moments on screen but it doesn't really work. The movie has tons of potential to deepen the characters but instead, it uses a half worked romantic failure between a teacher and a parent. Which only works as a time filling section to beat the clock.
The movie's bonding between past and present is so vaguely represented that it looks like an another effort time to play time.
The music can be light on those thinking they'll see a musical/chorus movie but it is very competent for a family-comedy movie.
Bloodshot (2020)
Movies are not videogames.
When I was watching this movie with my friends I commented wow this character looks a lot like a character from a videogame and we all agreed then this situation developed and we started to get suspicious when I checked I saw director worked on lots of videogames so this explained all of it. I'm surprised that these videogames didn't sue this movie yet.
Kolpaçino 3. Devre (2016)
Irritating acting followed by irritating scenario
A movie directed and written by its lead never gets a success in Turkish cinema and this movie -not surprisingly- was not an excemption. This movie series was never a funny one but this one "3. Devre" was the worst of all three. Safak made a terrible choice by directing this movie. Only acting I could see was from the main villian played by Erkan Petekkaya. I don't even know why I bother writing this review
