The Survivors Club (2004 TV Movie)

Awful... (Don't watch...)
21 November 2022
It's pretty clear from about 10minutes in that this is firmly in "Movie of the week" territory, so we, as the audience, aren't expecting too much!

But what we get is so bad and so full of plot holes and ridiculous acts, it's almost beyond belief.

Sleeping with a rape survivor is bad enough, but then the head detective decides, in his wisdom, to take her with him to a flippin prison... I mean, the guy has had his own trauma to deal with but come on.

I suppose a movie which begins with a presumed multiple rapist and murderer being marched into court in perfect view of a sniper isn't gonna get hung up on the details.

These police or more Naked Gun than NYPD blue.

Threatening suspects, tainting crime scenes, all in a day's work.

This movie is crap, plain as.

It takes a hackneyed plot and throws it in a bad movie trope blender.

The acting is more wooden than a tree.

You have been warned!

Middling movie but watch it for the 2 leads...
30 April 2022
Overall this is only an average movie.

If you don't get the "twist" within about 10mins, you probably don't understand movies🤦🤣 But that's not really the point.

The reason to watch, or rather reasons, are McKellen and Mirren.

Two supreme actors doing great work.

There is some decent backups also and some good staging of the action now and then...!

A romp and a half
27 April 2021
Makes very little sense overall.

Continuity is all over the place!

Kurt hams it up so much.

But... It's a great, entertaining romp, just leave your brain at the door...

This is such a dumb movie. It makes zero sense and the acting is so hammy. Avoid.

Bad (good!) Break out!

This movie is like meeting an old friend in a bar you both used to go to. It only takes about 60seconds and the audience is back in the BB world. A world we know so well. It's a welcome return. However, ignoring BB for a minute, as a standalone movie, this is a great "get away" film. Production values are huge. Every camera angle is chosen so carefully, every character wonderfully positioned, even if screen time is limited. Returning to BB of course we know many of these characters so well, it's wonderful to meet them again, to see where they are now, or to flesh out previous moments. The acting is top class, particularly from Paul, who slips into pinkman effortlessly. I really enjoyed this movie, easter came early and often...

Avoid...
1 August 2020
An interesting story told in the most bungling, ham-fisted way possible. A true story told so badly it appears made up. The "acting" is awful, direction non-existent. How do you put an illegal unmarked grave in an official graveyard?? One of many questions that come up. Some cheesy movies are enjoyable IN their very cheese, this is simply gone off...

Thrilling, enchanting, beautiful: This is not Normal tv.
30 July 2020
So beautifully made and put across. Every sinue, every glance, every shadow, a poem in itself. This IS messy love and, damn it, love is messy. But also achingly, gutwrenchingly, beautiful. This is tv as prose, a graceful piece, which gives itself ample time in a world, in a time, when everything is on demand and on speed.

Take your time and do yourself a favour and watch some of the best and most honest acting and directing of the decade.

Bravo.

Feel the hurt...
7 June 2020
This is war... And war is a mess. One of the best, most realistic war movies ever made. This doesn't glorify what it is to be a solider. Visceral, claustrophobic, dirty, uncomfortable. You can almost smell the rotting flesh and feel the heat through the screen. This is film-making of the highest order and some of the best, most challenging acting, ever committed to celluloid. War has a real human, physical and emotional, cost and this film shows it like no other.

Revealing Documentary...
10 May 2020
Certainly a revealing Documentary but unlike other such movies, it's probably more revealing about the viewers own intuitions or feelings than ultimately the subjects. A tragedy is investigated from all angles. Hard to watch at times but a very well put together piece.

Awful film.
30 March 2020
This movie is so bad. Not so bad it's good, just SO BAD. It has no heart, no pacing and lazy character development. The main reason I say this is because of the movie this is based on, a wonderful film based on real characters, witty dialogue and a clever premise, full of brilliant actors. The second reason is John Travolta, a good actor, who forgot how to act in this movie. So my main review of this movie is, don't bother, watch the far superior one from 1974.

Terrible movie
9 March 2020
Every tired old movie trope is present and correct. No originality whatsoever. The acting is as wooden as the fight scenes. The cars have better, more believable, backstories and character development. Please don't make another one.

Not what you'd expect...
31 December 2019
Oh course, when Wilson & Zach share screen and scream! time, there are some real laugh out loud and zany moments but overall this is really about love, friends, family loss and society as a whole. It's about how we fit into the world and about how we treat it, and each other. The acting is superb throughout and this movie deserves to be seen...
