Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Why
Quick, the tension is mounting and... stop to have a conversation about friendship or bottled water. It gets annoying. Where's the urgency? Heck, most of the crew would try to wave down a borg drone to try and 'emo' angst the darn thing into being peaceful and caring.
Ugghh. It's what we have so we continue watching.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Oh no... no and no.
Okay, we get it, it's a grittier realistic version of Trek. Trouble is, it's also massively disrespectful to a character that's saved millions of people.
Season 2 is the same. The way they speak to and treat Picard is awful. I'm amazed that anyone's watching this show.
Sure, it's not bad, but it could be a LOT better.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013)
Absolutely awesome... until WOKE season 8.
I absolutely love this show (excluding WOKE season 8). Lots of laughs, great little stories with a great cast.
Shame about season 8. I watched episode 1 and that was it.
Jupiter's Legacy (2021)
Good lord!
There's only so many times I can watch the exact same shows filled with angst exploding teenagers. Invincible and The Boys absolutely knocks this show to mars and back with ease.
Stop it. Please. Walker is a sham, a shallow shadow of the show before it, with Jupiter's Legacy needing the same producers as The Boys. There's already been 100 shows featuring teenagers being idiots. Bring something new... PLEASE!
Mortal Kombat (2021)
Could have been...
Another Summer cinema film, without the cinema. There's two ways to look at this film:
1. It's an enjoyable punch-em-up with great one liners from Kano, a load of great fights, fantastic finishes and above average special effects. It doesn't stretch the ethos of Mortal Kombat all that much, but it is better than practically all of the media beforehand. Recommended
2. For someone that's played the games, watched all of the films, as well as being a fan of martial arts, it's somewhat of a disappointment. Sure, those one liners and blood filled finishes are pretty damn good, but it's still missing so much. Where's Michael Jai White? Where's Scott Adkins? We have a few martial artists at the top of their game, but I do feel that this film is another missed opportunity. Sure, it's nowhere near as bad as MK: Annihilation, but raising the bar from really, really bad to actually reasonably okay, is doing just that. Raising the bar. I want the bar raised and smashed over Outworld's face.
Furthermore, we've just had the excellent MK: Scorpion's revenge. Now THAT was good. Let's not forget Daniel Bernhardt, who featured in the MK: Conquest TV series. Where was he? Oh well. It was a worthwhile watch, but it could have been so much better. Still recommended for action fans!
Stowaway (2021)
Generic, boring and bland
After the first 18 minutes, nothing interesting had happened, but then some stowaway dude appeared. Blimey. I didn't know that THAT was going to happen! Sci-Fi, space. 30 minutes in and I'm ready to saw my leg off. This is a mildly meandering film that's slow, thoughtful and... not much more. Sure, there's a chance of impending doom, but I'm thinking that it might take a LONG time to get there. After fifty minutes I've watched something that could have been crammed into ten minutes. Basically, the ship can support two people, with an absolute maximum of three. The stowaway makes four. What would you do? At the end, I just thought that it was a very generic, slow, crappy dumb movie that looked quite good along with high production values.
The Expanse (2015)
Originally 8, now 6.
Seasons 1, 2 and 3 were simply fantastic. Great Sci-fi, with hopefully amazing things to come.
Season 4, however, slowed everything down and introduced far too much filler. Awful.
Let's hope that Season 5 improves.
Wu Xia 2 the Code (2019)
What?
This film is awful. Absolutely terrible. The fight scenes are slow, awkward and painful to watch.
It makes me think that the cast/crew are writing reviews!
Altered Carbon (2018)
Season 1 = Yes. Season 2 = Oops.
So, although Season 1 wasn't perfect and had a few issues, it was still pretty damn good. Season 2, on the other hand, seems to have fallen back on to the usual run of the mill, heard it all before, dialogue.
The production value is very high, but the writing not so much. Shame. I wouldn't bet on a third season. Big shame.
Smallville: Turbulence (2009)
Terrible
It's almost as if the writers set things up and knock them down. Oh wait, they do. We had the constant Clana break ups and now we have the Jimmy and Chloe thing. It's really, really getting a bit tired and muh.
I've watched the show non-stop, started last year with season 1 all the way up to season 6 and then had to wait each week for a new ep so everything's pretty fresh but this episode screamed filler. Come on, write something better, please!
Furthermore, we've also seen the Lex and Clark stuff before and the plane incident is re-treading old, old ground. If there is a season 9, I just hope that the writers bring something new to the table as this episode, tonight, marked a shift and I'm feeling disappointed. Shame.
I love the show, but it would have to grow to attract new audiences and keep the older viewers
The Saint (1997)
What can I say......
It's not often that a film comes along where it has a start, a middle and most importantly, a sensible, well thought out and intelligent ending. For this type of film you usually have big explosions and people getting shot in the head etc, but here, you have intelligence.
A heck of a lot of people did not like this film back in the day but I simply loved it to bits. The main stars, as usual, have a relationship of sorts and that's what made the film for me! I'm giving away no details but again, a lot of people will not relate to the characters being played out in this film.
Get yourself some popcorn or whatever, sit down with your mind open and enjoy!
Cursed (2005)
Not bad
I watched the Un-rated version. It's not at all bad but it's also not the best werewolf film ever. In fact, slightly forget it's a werewolf film and think of it as a normal horror type film.
Christina Ricci is of course the main attraction and she does not fail to impress but that's because I'm male and have a heartbeat. Mya and Shannon are a worthy addition! I do not wish to even go near any spoilers so I won't do that.
I'll finished by saying that you may wish to watch this with a girlfriend etc as you know, scares are great to get them close. This is in no way, "The worst film I have ever seen" and, "This film does not suck" etc. Just watch it when you feel like it.
Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo (2005)
Offending and silly but so what!
When you see a film like this you kind of know what to expect! Or do you. People watching this will find that it is slightly differing to the first film but that's not a bad thing.
Offending! Yes, it is and it will offend many different people for no reason at all. If you cannot see between the lines then don't complain, don't mumble, turn it off and watch something else. If you can read between the lines then you may realise that even though the women that are in the film do have differences from the norm, the main character helps them, whereas most individuals will simply scorn and walk off.
You see this is a comedy film that does offend, but it offends to make you realise that there are a heck of a lot of people out there that are different but HIDDEN!
Take the film as a laugh and try not to be offended. It's for a good cause. But then again, most people will rip the above apart and simply take the opposite view because, well, they can.
