Simple, entertaining, Well-made sequel
6 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
If you are like me, then the chances of seeing Top gun in Theaters wasn't just possible. Nevertheless i can proudly say, i was able to watch the sequel to the classic and am i glad they made it so memorable

Top Gun Maverick: Pete Mitchell returns as a Aviator he has been tasked with a rather impossible mission and train elite graduates across the country to successfully execute it.

With legacy and Tom Cruise as the criterion, the movie already had a huge cult following irrespective of how it turns out. Managing and exceeding expectations was already a huge ask. But this movie does it better, it exceeds the expectations by a huge margin and brings out many surprises along the way. Tom Cruise is a Legend, i think he can do no wrong, may it be the stunts, his involvement in the characters, charisma, whatever you give him he aces it and the director realized this factor and used it to the movies' advantage. Everything in the movie is centered around Maverick and its surely a one-man show coupled with few brilliant performances for other actors who merely seemed like support characters. Maverick steals the show and carries the movie throughout no flaws what-so-ever.

The premise is rather simple and easy to understand and if you've seen Top Gun recently (just before the movie like me) you will follow the love letters to the older version and relish it. An enemy base which needs to be destroyed because of the illegal activities involving nuclear reactors and if left alone might pose serious threat to global arena. Sounds more like a Mission Impossible montage, but since its a movie about flights, the trick is to get down via a narrow entry point, destroy target, exit with huge incline and survive to make it home. Maverick was called in to train the best of the best because why not? He is the Maverick. Strapped for time, and a impending doom, Maverick does what he does best. Showboating his skills and inspiring the fleet of aviators.

The premise and story until then is more than sufficient to hit a home run, however the director had few moments, like training Goose's son, reconnecting with his first love, the move on from Goose's death, the bond of Ice-Maverick. All of these made such beautiful connections that you would want to see how it all turns out. This was a very difficult ordeal as it is and with so many backstories, the director gave a very clear and proper screen time to justify their involvement in the movie, truly inspirational directorial brilliance.

Other thing you will relish in this movie are the flight scenes. It is obvious that there will be many; but in every scene you feel that the maneuvers, dog fights are actually happening. It was shot so well and not just the actors did a great job, but the special effects coordinator deserves a huge round of applauds as well. There were scenes when the plane banks right you lean and when the pilots feel the jet flush you will feel your breath stops for a moment before gasping for air. It was a real treat to eyes and a very convincing play by the director that makes you believe you are travelling along with the actors, a very very difficult feat to achieve, very well done

Was tom cruise love interest needed? Meh.. nope Do you root for others apart from Tom Cruise, not really.. but is that a bad thing, definitely not.

Top Gun achieved Top Honors at all levels.

Does what its exactly supposed to do and keeps it relevant
18 April 2022
83: A movie showcasing the biggest victories of Indian Cricket, The Cricket Worldcup. Coming in as least favorites and to everyone's surprise outperformed many greats only to enter the Cricket's Hall of Fame by winning the World Cup in Lords, England.

Call the movie a documentary, Biopic it stays in that genre at all times. It is movies like this, that the Indian Film Industry needs to be proud about. Not because it is reliving the Glory Days, but because it does that so convincingly well. It makes people like me to feel bad that i wasn't even born to see this monumental moment. Many video games these days give you a life-like character feel that it is difficult to identify a game vs reality. The actors in this movie does exactly that, you are in sync with their feelings and don't see them as actors anymore, You see them as Kapil, Lal, Cheeka, etc. Such is the performance from each and everyone in the movie and the commitment given by them has brought life to the silver screen experience.

Let's be honest, for many Indian movie enthusiast who had played cricket all along their life (like me) would buy-in tp jus the script involving cricket. And the fact that we did not watch this LIVE is good enough for the movie to succeed. Over and above that, the movie takes leaps and bounds in sculpting each character with their actual self mannerisms and attitude, special praise to director for extracting such high performances. Kabir Khan is already set his mark in such film making, one prime example is Bajrangi Bhaijaan, even the hunk of bollywood putdown some breath taking performances in this movie and the sentiments were loaded to the brim. It is no surprise from the film maker, however to keep up the path and continue his legacy is very commendable and hopefully he will do the same in future projects.

Ranveer Singh: I have been watching him from his first movie 'Band Baaja Baaraat", and even in that movie he as Bitto was exactly what the movie needed, the right dose. He has made improvements physically and have been implementing his learnings skills that he has acquired over time. This is very evident in 83; his mature and seamless performance from start to finish is what actually carried the movie all around. We knew he was going to play a major role, but he realized it early on and the efforts he put in to mimic the great Kapil Dev is truly breathtaking. Creating a bowling action so convincing that we might think its actually Kapil is bowling, talking with his team mates, press, etc. He was important to movie success and he has thoroughly justified that.

The movie knew that the audience knew the script, not just the story line, but also till the very end. There were no surprise that the director can pull through, so what the director has done is turn that limitation to his advantage. Rather than trying any unwanted stunts, off-track Love parody, the director has taken the essence of the Worldcup and provided a 3 hr highlights of the matches, which is exactly what was needed. But the movie suffers a flaw without any mistake from the moviemakers and the actors and that is RELEVANCY.

While we all like to see the highlights of victorious India, none of the players who played then are in the team anymore and some even had a tarnished image of themselves. So knowing that ahead of this movie did make us wonder, what are these people doing now and how have they fared in life. To be honest not much, so despite being a huge win, that doesn't necessarily guarantee your glory days forever and time will change the viewpoints based on the recent happenings. So in that sense i guess this movie is 20 years late. If this was made in 2000s am sure it would have been considered best movie of all time and even give the players of that era a resurgence into the new age cricket and provided better avenues of glorifying their success.

Aside that fact, the movie as such is a flawless entertainer and any movie about a underdog victory will always be well received and i don't see any reason this movie not to continue on the same path of success. Thank you so much for the filmmakers for giving a glimpse of the unseen era of cricket and making us feel proud of being Indian.

83 rightfully deserves a 100 in all our hearts!!!

Why do we need such movies? Nelson and Vijay both lost their respect
15 April 2022
Beast: A Hijacking movie on a loosely based home invasion concept and hero emerges victorious; no points for guessing the right script

We don't mind watching a movie without any logic; at least we prefer to watch once, but the problem with this movie is that it's got everything wrong. Illogical fights; lack of a proper screenplay; missing the script; no seriousness given to the hijacking / home invasion and you only see the actor Vijay in 90% of the screen space

Hijacking is a very emotional concept and the audience as such expect emotions from all the actors but in this movie it just felt that few robots entered the building and was just walking in the lobby without knowing what to do. They got civilians in their control but they don't seem to be in control at all. You don't get that feel of real threat. Actually it should have been funny or real scary but was neither. It was trying to be in both places at once and not do justice to both the emotions.

I guess the director could have thought about the budget and could have limited it to just two characters the hero and the villain because other characters doesn't really matter. You don't really see them and neither do they do justice to the screen space; so a big loss there for the producer and especially the lead actress, not really sure why she was cast in the movie. EXAMPLE of lunacy, there's this scene where Hero goes to a shrink, the only reason for that is it leads to uninvited wedding in which hero meets the heroine. Would the movie had been different without that scene, NO. Why waste time, just bring the heroine as a bystander in the mall.

If the director wanted the movie to be funny it wasn't funny, if the director wanted the movie to be a mixed emotions; well that wasn't working either and we are not really sure which path the movie wanted to go and what was the real objective. It just keeps skips one to the other without any correlation to the previous scenes and that by itself is a real waste of time. The entire idea of a rescue mission is based on Veera and his insane skills, agreed, it can happen but not with such high levels of dumbfounded moves and mad narrative.

The movie felt like it was directed by three different directors 1 incharge of the songs one incharge of the action stunts and one incharge of this support characters and when all three of them come together I think they had an argument which comes first and no one settled. Stupidity is an understatement to describe the movie. I felt really drowsy by the end and was searching for an aspirin and by then thank god it was over.

So many characters unused in the movie and not given their due rules; shows the directors arrogance in expecting veera to carry the movie on his shoulders. If it had been more inclusive and tried to be a clever (like Doctor) the movie would've been more likeable. Such a shame that The same director who made such a fun underdog rescue mission, feels too Pride to continue in the same lines and just wants a cashgrab.

In final, Beast, a colossal waste..

Riveting, Rustic and Remarkable
11 April 2022
Do not read any further, just do yourself a favor and watch the movie in your nearest Cinema Hall.

RRR: A movie about 2 circumstantial friends, working their way for opposing mission. As their backstory unfolds, their friendship transcends further and working in unison for the greater good. The movie lead by NTR Jr. (Bhim) and Ram Charan (Sitarama aka Ram) with great supporting roles from Ajay Devgan, Alia Bhatt and Samuthirakani.

From the trailers, we ought to know that we are getting into a Baahubali-style grandeur, coupled with sans-logic fights. That is the only limitation that your brain needs to adjust and enjoy this well-directed marvel. Am sure this is something we have seen many movies from top actors in south in so-called action movies. So, it is easier to expect and move on.

This movie follows the traditional way of story telling and creates a premise which is rather memorable. This is a commendable effort from the director in this age of filming, where everything is fast forward in the name of modernization of film editing. The explanation of each "R" of the movie is very crisp and punchy that you buy into the characters Bhim and Ram. Needless to mention; they will occupy 85% of screen space and you completely back who you are rooting for and for what reason.

NTR Jr and Ram Charan already have a huge fan base and their lineage is just bigger than the Tollywood cinema itself. Despite this, the effort put in by both the actors and their physical transformation to look slick on their roles is commendable. That is what gives a true grit to the movie and gives us a commitment to immerse ourselves in the character and walk alongside them in their quest for success.

The second half does slow down, and it is fair that way, as the first half has just been just a colossal rampage of information and due spectacle of brilliances from the actors. To maintain that pace is surely not needed and when we deep dive into the backstory of how things were, you will feel the justification behind Ram Charan and why he is reacting the way he is reacting in the movie. You buy into it very easily.

You don't have to understand Bhim and his motto, his rescue mission is a testimonial to the fact how clans prioritize others than self and how they are willing to throw anything and everything to save lives. Although annexation was at full swing in the British rule, the movie takes focuses on human trafficking and the emotions that run along with it.

Sometimes, this movie did show glimpses of Captain America, Civil War. Not in the superhero characteristics, but whose side the audience will sway based on the circumstances and if you haven't swayed between Ram and Bhim then you are soul deprived 😊.

Ajay Devgan, Alia Bhatt, Samuthirakani have justified their screen time and delivered the message where needed. Kudos on director to use them in right place at the right time. Normally in such movies, songs would drag the pace down, not here though. The songs are equally adrenaline rushed as the movie itself. Dance movements were just breathtaking, especially "Nattu Kuthu". You will involuntarily be dancing from your seats, its too good.. Although it would have been better off without one Sad song.

Surely every movie has flaws, and this is no exception, but the question is can you look past them? Yes absolutely. Can you enjoy the movie even with them? 100%.

RRR just Roars!!

Atrangi Re (2021)

Surprisingly entertaining, old concept with new twist
15 March 2022
Triangulated love story which is not something new however have been delivered with different aspects.

Atrangi re: Starring Dhanush (Vishnu), Sara Ali khan (Rinku), Akshay Kumar (Sajjad) is a tried and tested concept of getting married without mutual consent and later falls in love with her, twist is she is in love and with another man from different timeline

Barring the twist, the script is rather old and simple premise and should not have been joyful to watch but it was because of a few key elements in this movie. As always good script with good actors always give you a better product. This movie is no exception, in every scene, movie the actors own the space and gives you sense of belonging. Also having such a versatile actors the director has tested their acting skills which brings out even moments of brilliance.

Vishnu and Rinku are the ones who steal the show and they are almost in every frame of the movie however Sajjad is also an integral part and actually the story revolves around him even though he is not in the screen and when he comes on screen you are convinced the man is what Rinku says he is. Vishnu support portrayl of greif is very realistic as always and his apologetic behaviour when he ditches his girlfriend is believable, but one would think that the entire fiasco could have been avoided and the movie might have been other 15 to 20 mins short. His commitment to all roles on all levels is very evident and he keeps us engaged and that is the maturity we have seen with the man over time.

Rinku started off on the wrong foot and may be made us feel that she was a lot annoying at first but she quickly grows on us and as the movie spedfast you can see what are the different aspects of a Rinku and why she is the way she is. Her breakdown when Sajjad did not marry her is very real to the eyes and happiness she expressed when Sajjad is coming back it is also extremely pleasing to watch

Sajjad is important aspect in the movie but we only see bits and pieces of him but those bits and pieces are actually really well made and adds well to the overall picture of the script. While his best performance was left for the end, reaching that end was very well crafted and when he says the story on what exactly happened and what is Rinku going through we just don't pity for Rinku but feel so sad for her and at the same time and we are in tears knowing what has she gone through

Being a triangulated Love story the movie touch based on a very 2 important concepts. Firstly, GREIF and how do we address Greif and what are the consequences of ignoring it and a second is about the CAST ISSUE that is still prelevant in many places in India, due to which innocent lives are lost and many such Rinkus use are created in the society

Overall, Atrangi re (Colorful) lives upto it's name and is very joyful to watch. Then backbone might be old, but its like a remix of old song and will please most of its audiences.

Netrikann (2021)

Great acting but with lapses in logic
14 March 2022
First off, this is no way a bad movie. Its just that since its Nayanthara the bars are already set really high and just seamless acting from her is not enough to carry the movie thought.

Netrikann - a movie about a CBI agent who lost her sight in a accident, plays a important role in nabbing a BDSM based pedophile, sounds intriguing, like the tamil movie - Pyscho. But not to be

The key in giving a successful movie out of this mediocre script and screenplay completely goes to Nayanthara (Durga). She has just owned the scenes and totally justifies in what she wants to do. Her expressions, dialogue delivery, attitude is what made this movie worth watching. You can feel her pain, you can relate to her suffering, you can empathize with her all along and needless to say you will be rooting for her.

But there are also few pocket-rocket performances from Manikandan and Saran Sakthi who do complete justice to their screen time. Albeit not stealing the show from Durga they form a much needed support for the lead character who is in pursuit to kill the human demon.

So much heart into this movie, it feels disappointing to not have a clean string of chords. First the instance where Durga loses her eyesight is bit of bummer and a responsible officer is expected to be, you know.. responsible? Also many simple encounters to snap a picture of the suspect goes begging which defies logic. Also Durga getting in grips with her lost in vision so soon is not believable and the fact that she was do it so casually seemed a overkill. A cold-hearted murderer sparing the life of a eyewitness seems too much of a plot drop by the director.

The movie created a unwarranted accident in first 10 mins of movie, it would have made a lot more sense if the Pedophile was involved in that and we kept backtracking on what went on from there and uncover a much bigger problem. Now the first 15 mins seems more of a conscious effort to make Durga blind for movie sake, and does not add any other value. The movie could definitely have been 30 minutes shorter, which would have made it even crisper and likeable and wouldn't have given the drag it is created.

Netrikann (The third eye) is definitely not too bad on your eyes. But don't expect something out of the ordinary.

A slow burn which will leave you satisfied!!
14 March 2022
This was a surprising movie and the things that are good in this film are just about quintessential to any movie, but here it has been packaged really well. The acting, script, screenplay. 3 most important factor which was beyond expectations

The premise is rather simple, a backstory of what everyone does and gives you a sense of belonging in the movie. The protagonist portrays to be connected in different aspects although they keep the dark part hidden. Arjun Das has done a phenomenal performance in this and he aces every frame he is in. May it be a deranged man, a coach, a medium,,, he is very very convincing and makes you want to watch over and over.

The blind character played by Vinod Kishan is equally good if not better in few occasions. His portrayal of medium is spot on and he does it so casually with no frills it is very believable.

The director has taken his time to sculpt the characters, which may not be a preferred tone for many, it seems slow in that sense as every minor detail is given a due consideration. However I loved it as it gives you the involvement and who are you rooting for in the movie.

Any horror movie, mostly relies on jump scares and a one off appearance of the ghoul. The story mostly takes a backseat, not in this one though. The characters have a story and the connection is the very base of the movie for almost 80% of it. So you have to watch this in one sitting to truly enjoy the journey

Almost 50% of the movie you will piecing the puzzle together, but your presence is also a very important factor to understand the puzzle even more. So sometimes you may feel frustrated but like i said the movie being a slow burn will start twisting the tension higher with every scene. And its not a sudden release at the end as well. The director has taken adequate time to slowly unwind the mystery. Brilliant effort!!

Aside the pace of the movie which may not seem fit for everyone, this is one horror movie which does not have jump scares and relies on logic to move the movie forward. A shout out to the sound engineer who has done a phenomenal job in keeping us at the edge of our seats

Andhaghaaram (lack of light) does not lack anything to be skipped from watched. It is a wholesome movie with brilliant performances which will remain in your memory for a long time.

A promising start, a disappointing finish
14 March 2022
Similar to many movies of Surya the movie revolves around sending social message to the people and make the society a better place to live.

It is a very noble cause however the movie is supposed to address the problem and give the audience better solution on how they can overcome the fears; what happens to the culprits. But what it does is beats around the problem again and again without a solution or without even suggesting what could be done for a better society improvement.

That is one part of the problem with the movie, the other problem is unwanted sentiments and unwanted fight sequences and the screenplay is isn't just gripping enough to make you committed to the movie.

The premise is really good, the intro is very well made and the characters really do come together as a team and by the end of first half you get an actual sense of where this movie is headed and which is to to kill the evil element and bring peace and harmony to humanity.

But the second half the movie really disappoints, after the characters come out of the light and what is actually happening to them what are the problems they face in the society and how do they get into these situations, questions are being answered we expect some kind of smart thinking from the hero to nab the criminal and beat him in his own game.. in this case there was nothing it was just an old fashion hand on hand combat which was pretty disappointing.

So the movie starts off well, the pace is really good, songs on the apt places, the portrayal of the heroine is also really nice, but where it just goes downhill once it hits the intermission. After that there is no real answer what can be done or to say that what is the director trying to prove here so I just lacks that completeness, it just felt very rushed towards the end just to finish and was not really helpful.

The directors' take on the issue and few instances of brilliance are commendable, you will not be entirely disappointed and you will not be entirely happy so the movie is satisfactory.

Etharkum Thunindhavan (Take any risks) has taken few risks with plot which did not blend into the overall movie watching experience.

A fun movie with nothing much to offer
12 September 2015
You can't say many things good about this movie. But you cannot saying anything that is so bad as well. For what the movie has set out to be i have to say, it actually works very well. I in fact enjoyed the movie and don't feel that it was a bad movie The biggest flaw anyone would notice in the movie is a lack of continuity and the scenes just feels separate. There nothing emphatic about the story and it just does not keep things together. Every scene in this movie can be watched separately and can be enjoyed, you don't have to watch the complete movie to have the fun. It was just like watching adhitya channel, so in that sense that is a negative to the movie but if you just want to laugh throughout and listen to witty dialogues this movie is certainly to go for.

The movie although suffers from many flaws, it would have been lot better if 2 things were taken care of, unwanted stunts and songs. If STR had not done this am sure this movie would be much better.

Having heard nothing positive about the movie i went in with a very low mindset and perhaps that's what made me enjoy the movie even more. Simbu and Santhanam steal the show every time and needless to say simbu punch one-liners are witty and sometimes well picked by the actor. Rather than blowing his own trumpet he sometimes tries to convey a message and works as a likable character.

I was particularly happy with the closure of the movie. It started off being nothing and end there, which is actually not bad if you think about it. You can think of some movie which starts amazingly well and ends really really bad, that is hellbender, but here it is simple, subtle and the hero was what he was in the beginning. No major transformation, no unruly masala fights at the end, so in those sense it was good.

Comedy was good, every character had done justice to their roles and is good to watch in the scenes they are in and kudos to the director for providing the right depth to each actor. This movie will not make you go wow, but you will not hate it as well. It is particularly hard to rate this movie, but go with absolutely no expectations and just have a good time with your family, you surely will.

Ciao

Totally uninteresting - had potential to do a whole lot better
12 September 2015
A movie about a uptight chef, who faces a turmoil of emotions, happy, sad all at the same time. So tries to adapt to the new situations. That is a very strong script and yet the movie is boring as hell.

When i looked at the trailer i knew it would be really fun and Catherina Zeta Jones is a able actor to pull this off. But no, this is extremely dismal performance for the actress. By far this is the worst performance and am not just talking about being a perfectionist in the kitchen, her love interest with Aaron Eckhart and a likable aunt with her niece she falls in all places and really low.

The movie starts off in a very interesting note, and shows the actress in the kitchen and cuts back and forth with a therapist and then moves on to show the tragedy in her life and niece moving with her. It was very intriguing and i really thought this could go somewhere, but after all that am not sure what happened to all the flamboyance and grit that the movie had. It just fell apart and i was hoping despite this, the acting would be good enough to carry the movie and disappointment again.

This movie confused me a lot, i understand the little girl was going through a really difficult time, but many times her anger was totally not needed. Running off in the road, going to her mom's grave for a reason which was beyond reason. Standing in freezing cold for no reason, the girl looked appallingly bad. And there was Aaron Eckhart, he was again at his lowest low, when he came in to the movie i was hoping a bonding issue with the actress would eventually turn into love and would have its fun moments.

None of that existed, he was this exuberant and passionate guy and such a character will have to be fun in this uptight movie, he had no such moments. I don't even understand why was he fired in the first place and the chemistry between the characters was the worst. The aunt-niece was pathetic, lead actors chemistry was abysmal and the movie had lost all the finesse, passion and short did not have the heart to carry it through.

The screenplay was really bad, dialogues were worse and the scenes in the trailer where Catherina Zeta Jones blows out on a customer complaint was split into 2 sections. One in the start and one right before the end, which totally doesn't make sense. The characters should grown into you, not go back and forth on the same emotions and insanely annoy you.

The movie should have focused on the bonding between actress and little girl and build the story around it, it would be a really fun and interesting to watch, but instead goes in all different directions and loses our interests after the first 20 minutes which is a huge disappointment. Never seen such a wasted script and feel really for the sub-standard and lackluster attempt by the director on the script. A movie totally worth skipping.

Oh yeah, no second thoughts, just go watch it!
3 September 2015
Salman, i knew it, i knew you could pull through such a amazing movie as well, my only question why didn't you do this earlier? Iam pretty sure most of the reviewers who are used to watching Indian movies are probably going to say the same thing about this movie, but for others who watch occasional Indian movies and mostly Hollywood movies, don't say this movie defies logic, don't say the movie has plot holes and any other crap coz i can list 100 Hollywood movies which has bigger ill-logical plot points than this. Enjoy the movie for what it is and it sure has got lot of depth in the script to make sure you do that.

Now, that we have taken that out of the equation, let's talk about the movie. This movie is really fun to watch. We all know what to expect in Salman Khan movies and i loved this movie because it did not have any of that. And still movie is one of the biggest bollywood blockbuster, so what does that tell you Mr. Salman? You have people who are willing to spend their time and money even if you don't rip your shirt and just have over-the-top action scenes.

This movie has a lot of heart, yeah lot of scenes where you might tear up, but apart from that it spends quite a lot of time in getting the characters in your head. It was very easy to do that cos you only care about 3 characters in the whole movie. Hero, little girl and the tag-along friend, Siddiqui. Each of them have been given the right character development and a neat story to get you in grip with the movies wants to accomplish.

So when they show salman khan's past, you surely wouldn't be surprised how the movie is going to pan out. No surprises anywhere in the movie, again with such a premise how would you engage the audiences? With acting of course. Everyone has given their best, Salman, Harshaali, Siddiqi and Kareena Kappoor. Given their best and have articulated the scenes so clearly that you really want to say "Oh man, that really hit me". I was hoping at some point you will really see Salman lose his cool and start bashing heads and am gonna hate the movie for it. But it did not happen, although there were a couple of mini-fights, they were needed, i mean anyone with such a heart as Bajarangi would have done the same thing, so totally justified.

But remember it is movie of a actor who is used to staying in air longer than a commercial airline during stunts, so you can't completely show a docile and mellowed down character of such a shooting star. So in that sense, movie suffers a few flaws and i really don't want to get into everything but i would say some parts in the movie where people had said..

Kareena Kapoor: Everyone i spoke to was just saying she was completely dispensable, waste of money, even if you remove her from the movie nothing will change, etc. so for all those people, Yes, you are partially true, but do you really expect every character in every movie to be completely in-sync with the screenplay and involved in every scene? NO, that hardly happens and if not for her Bajarangi's mind would have been really narrow and maybe he might have never even started on the mission.

Harshaali: Again every soul said she had done exceptionally well, it is not true. We are all humans, we would have accepted the movie if the girl was just a picture and Salman went in search of her. We like such sentiments and happy endings. I am not saying she was bad, she was good, but over-hyped. If you really want to see a child actor perform there are many movies (Taare Zameen Par, Kannathil Mutamital (Tamil)) those performances are worthwhile mentioning.

Movie could have been shorter, it made the journey perilous for the heck of it. There could have been some scenes which could have been completely avoided and i also believe the parents were utterly underplayed. Their daughter is missing, i would have expected a little bit more screen time of them rather than some convoluted plot points. But that's my point of view.

Having spoken about these, the movie is worth watching and am sure i can watch this again and this will be in my list of top 10 best movies of Salman Kahan. Please continue making such movies at least once a while, i loved watching it and am sure you would not regret it a bit.

Thank you for reading, Ciao

Exceptional acting, great dialogues

The main character in this movie is no human. That's right, he just looks like a cyborg on a mission to excel in life and that is our Hero. OMG Jake Gyllenhaal is a great find, he can act like crazy. From the way he talks, where he lives, his work style everything has been throughly thought out.

The second most important point in this movie is dialogues, it was mind blowing, although sometimes you get the feel he is just talking like google, but that's the way people such as him talk. His rationale in everything his does is factual and you go along with it. If you are extremely career driven, this is how you will be. It will be great for your career but will make look and sound like a asshole The movie does not take much time in settling in, no back story or any of that to waste our time. It starts off with the thinnest of premise and just works way around it. This just shows anything that if you dream of, no matter how small it is, if you put complete hard work and be a crazy minded freak it will get you phenomenal results.

Also i liked the fact the focus on movie was clearly confined and you will not have to make your own premonition of things. He wants to excel and he will do whatever it takes to do it. And when i say whatever, i literally mean whatever. You will get really uncomfortable with the character half way into the movie and would just don't want to root for him, but at the same time intrigued to find out how it turns out. That is how thick the character development is in this film.

Rene Russo, Riz Ahmed have done their part really well. Again the dialogues were a selling point to their characters. In every frame they are in they contribute the right amount in the screenplay, they could have easily turned out to be extras in the movie who slow the screenplay, but thankfully they are not, they were absolutely perfect.

Yes, it was great acting, wonderful dialogues, a simple and effective story line, but still i wouldn't want to watch the movie again, may be because am human and i still believe death is end of life and not just another scene to be shot. I agree people such as him would come to think of it that way, but some sentiments wouldn't have been bad. People such as him would but really successful in life, but will not have anyone to share with and that to me a total waste of your efforts. So, in many levels the movie was good, it lacked the basic human instincts, rather than just framing your speeches based on numbers from internet and data from your computer human beings are still in charge of machines only because we bring the emotion part into the mix. It may not be right at all times, but i still believe it is needed and this movie did not have anything at all.

All in all, you will love the movie for what it is, but will not have one stand-out moment or would not recommend watching this movie to be a annual thing to do with your friends.

Minions (2015)
4/10
A boring animation movie, even for the kids!
31 August 2015
When are these spin-off movies gonna end? OMG this is the first time and hopefully the only time i say this, i hate Minions.

When people said Dispeciable Me movies are a hit because of minions, i did not agree and with this movie my argument just stands tall.

They came out of no where in Dispecable Me and stole our hearts. And i think that is where they should have stayed. For instance, you go to a 7-course meal and don't just wish you had more of the cup cakes? and when you have more of them and nothing else you don't want to eat anymore, that is this movie in one line.

Minions with their mannerism and slapstick gave us a real treat in the first two movies, in this they are just plain annoying. If you guys have seen the trailer then that's it. That is all the laugh you will get out of this movie. I was really surprised by that, i thought trailers were supposed to be a sneak peek into the fun adventure we were expecting, not in this movie.

Iam OK with the minion language, it is funny as long as you have some actions showing what they actually mean, but here they just talk in the Gibberish and every minion laugh (The Coronation scene). I mean what is that all about? i paid money to watch the movie and don't even understand the language in which the joke was said? How is that fair.

The movie lacks any purpose at all. If you are making a prequel of how minions are with Gru, i just guess the movie could have started with Gru and how they bond, but it choose another villain for the heck of it and ended up making minions a hero? Sounds confusing, minions are adorable but they are henchmen for an evil guy and hence they are evil, why would the movie want them to be proclaimed Hero, no idea. So if the minions are working for another villain isn't it a rehash of despicable movie? It shouldn't have been scripted like that Aside that fact, i wanted to see some fun minion moments, again that was missing. Nothing even made me chuckle and as the movie went on and on, i started hating them. Making the Universal music in Minionese, not cool at all but i know what was into, still to bore with the same thing over and over is not fun.

Movie lacks story, fun, logic and conviction. If you just want to watch for Kevin and Bob just go for it, otherwise don't even bother.

Spy (2015)
8/10
The most underrated movie of the year, Totally worth watching
19 August 2015
In a world where people are fighting against misogyny and sexual dominance, this movies takes a step back from all that and actually portrays Melissa Mccarthy as a unseeded rock star.

Iam serious, she is just fantastic in the movie and makes you carries the movie from the start to the end. When i saw the trailer i was wondering if they are gonna make a slap stick comedy and just add a spy element to it, but hell no! You get more refined, educated and thought out comedy.

I was surprisingly Laughing out loud for many comedy relief and the timing and length of comedy were just perfect. The premise looks like a spy-entourage movie, but ends up being a funny movie more a like a buddy cop move with much more heart.

The characters are very well used, Jason Statham, Jude Law, Rose Byrne placed perfectly and take their time in pacing things just to give you a feel for the characters, which is fantastic. Sometimes i thought Jason Statham was over the top, but he was so annoying and the movie made good use of such a a clever characterisation, kudos!! Melissa McCarthy was just very cool. I could see her as a back office operator, could see her as a Spy, a friend. You name she kills it, every role that she portrayed was just fantastic. It was just like a Get Smart but without the obvious over-hyped totally unwarranted portrayal of the spies I can watch this movie again and can easily watch with my friends around. I saw the plot twist coming so no real surprises there, but again the only downside with such movies has always been the end, and this movie suffers that as well. When the bag of tricks are all over the movie comes to a screeching halt with loud noise and mindless chases.

However that should not even bother you with the movie experience as a whole. A fun spy movie with witty jokes, very likable characters who have justified their roles with their innate acting skills

Maari (2015)
2/10
Dhanush killed everyone, i mean the audience
19 August 2015
There are some gangsta movies which tries to be better but end up being being bad, Maari is not one of them. It starts off being bad and ends up being awfully painful. But this movie served one purpose, this is the movie which can be showcased for all aspiring actors, directors, screenwriters and pointed out how not to take a movie

I don't even know where do i begin with this atrocity. Everything was horrible, from the premise, the actors, the comedy relief, the stunts, heroine, Story (there was none). It is like a wasted potluck, anything you pick from this movie can taste literally horrible and you would wonder why do you need it at all I like masala movies, not a huge fan but still, as i saw the trailer i knew what was i into. All i was expecting from this movie was some really fantastic dialogues which will become the cuss of all Chennaiates in future and a equally good acting by Dhanush and some mindless action. Please anyone tell me if this is too much of an expectation. And the movie did not miss this by a pinch, it missed it by a huge mile.

Calling premise stupid would be a understatement, it was one of the most fun-intended-action-aspired bullshit. From there the movie lost me, but the comedy relief made me chuckle in the beginning and i expected them to carry the movie at least half-way, NO, not to be. Then came a face-off between the good cop and the rouge hero, i was expecting some action, NO the movie stops the scene and moves to elsewhere.

Nothing in this movie is continuous, the editing is so awful. It just looks like every scene was shot in intervals of years and patched together to give a grotesque screenplay. I am not kidding, many times i felt why was that scene there? Was it just for the next scene to happen? No other purpose, seriously?? OK i will not even comment on anything else, the least i should expect was some mindless action which will make me remember the movie for at least a week, again plot twist, the Director says NO. There was just 2 fights in the entire movie and both of them was so badly Stunt Choreographed it just felt like Dhanush was smashing Styrofoam shaped mannequin and not real people. What a waste, a DON movie where fight is awful, what more could go wrong? Acting was predictable and shitty. You have one of the best actors, Dhanush and this was what you can come up with? That guy can do anything, why make a mockery out of him.

Characters was worthless, none of them gave you that involvement that you want to root for them. I did not care if Dhanush dies, Vijay Yesudas dies or even the entire cast commit suicide and end the movie. Not a remorse for anyone, there at least could have been a strong back story justifying why the hero is the way he is.

No story, awful characterisation, dismal stunts, sub-standard dialogues and all so not all important comedy relief. If the entire world was coming to an end and this was the last movie that i could watch before the apocalypse, i would still gladly pass

It's just riveting and picture perfect
13 August 2015
Yes it is remake, but that doesn't mean it's any lesser. In fact i believe making a remake is a difficult job. For all the people who say the original movie was better, of course you would believe that as this concept and movie did not exist before the original script so you will like it more. But now that you have a frame of reference, doing a remake of a successful movie is very difficult as you have cater to the demographic who know what the movie is about.

Yes people might say it is hit only because of a remake, but i would strongly disagree, it is a delight to watch because the remake is done just right. Kadhalaku Mariydhai, Nanban are prime example.

Leave aside all those controversies, from the premise till the end, this is one movie that paces really well. Though a simple concept of saving the family, the actors have brought their A-game, fantastic performances from everyone. Needless to say anything about Kamal Hassan, he makes everything looks so easy and so realistic, he has always been best in any role that he plays and even here he just steals the show. Having said that, it would be easy for the director to be tempted to keep Kamal in all frames and make the movie a success, but not to be. Everyone has been given a fair share of the screen space and they have given a scintillating act every time.

Although i know the movie was long, i never felt bored at any point, a feel that i get from a Tarantino movie. The screenplay was perfect, the actors were placed in the right place at right time. The plot twists were great and just when you thought you know everything the movie creeps with something new, i really loved that.

In a intriguing movie like this, you have to feel for the characters and you really do. That's a exceptional win-win for the actors in the movie. Even though ethically what they are doing are wrong, you understand what will happen if only you were truthful at all times, and you totally buy that. Frame by frame the movie passes with wonderful continuity and even when it ends, it just does not snap, it is a thorough and clear closure, which says a lot about the director It's easy for movies such as this to be absurdly stupid and leave many plot holes for the audience to explore but the director covers all plot syncs and when you backtrack what went on, you can easily connect the dots and agree to the fact though the hero is selfish, you have to be selfish at some times to survive in this world.

What happened was a accident, but in a perfect world you could come out with the truth and people will look at 2 sides of a coin and take the right judgment, but we are not in a perfect world. At the end when Kamal explains what would happen if the tables were turned, it is a right explanation. How a Mother would handle would be different from what a Mother with power would handle a situation.

A Small negative would be that the premise about the Hero could have been shortened a bit, maybe less 15 minutes, his love interest for his wife was totally unwarranted, looks like Kamal's personal choice than anything else. But that does not affect the movie in anyway and can be easily overlooked.

You will like every character, you could relate to the fear in their eyes, the plot was simple and understandable, the connectors were very well used and screenplay was paced just right. A movie for everyone in the family and through entertainer

Friends (1994–2004)
10/10
Why do i watch this again and again and again and feel WOW
10 August 2015
If anyone can answer this question, that would be amazing. I have seen a lot of TV and nothing has struck the chord like this. Granted its got flaws and plot holes, but who cares?

Then i start to think what was this that made FRIENDS the way it is

The characters are likable, relatable and pretty legit for the time

The situations they go into are the situations almost each of us get into

Your reactions would be the same if you had friends such as them

No convoluted plot points to make sure you savor the moment

Every character was given equal importance and their part in making sure you tear up

There was no re-casting, which made you so involved

Every guest appearance was unique in their own terms, they were not stereotypical, characters and just felt like part of the team

Friendshp is personified, work life balance depicted in the best way

It does not strive hard to spread any message at all, which makes it a treat to the eyes The jokes are timed perfect, sarcasm is used appropriately

Premise is way too simple and so is the end. It just feels like end of a episode but its the end of series.

Everyone's job is unique despite the fact that they were in high school together

I don't think any show was made biggest public influences than this None of the cast of any other TV show was on Oprah explaining to whole world their personal aftermaths of ending the sit-com I just could keep going on and on. but the list would be endless and it would different from every person's perspective of life and that again is a success. Each person could look at these episodes from their lens of life and can relate to them. Any party i have been whenever i say can we watch FRIENDS, there has never been a NO. That is how powerful and loving this is and By the way the opening song, best for any Sit-com.

I hated that they ended it, but looking at the actors now, i think its good that they did. They had their run and it has to stop somewhere and they stopped at the right time. Thank you to the cast and crew for giving us this marvel and i cannot thank enough the cast for their exceptional involvement and giving us this treat which i will cherish for ever and ever

Exceptional movie, a sci-fi movie with heart
8 August 2015
Directors today sway in two extremes, complete blockbuster plot with zero story and intense moments which would put you to sleep. It is very hard to strike a balance in this competitive market. But this movie is a very bold in mixing the two concepts and giving a real treat to the eyes Granted, the title tells you its a sci-fi flick, that doesn't mean it is just convoluted and the audience has to immerse to understand. It has been explained in a very simple and clear manner, kudos for the director for that.

Actors: Needless to say, script is only as good as the actors and the acting skills of the leads do not disappoint you at all. Its a A-game performance from the trinity of Indian cinema (Hero, Heroine, Villain). From the premise till the end nobody lets you down. They have done justification to their roles and at the same time has not gone over the top. Again, its the director's conditioning that makes such magic.

Karunakaran, for the guy he has been portrayed does not drag the screenplay with stupid questions at all. In fact, the questions he ask will make you understand the movie much better, a perfect use of the second fiddle. Also the comedy relief in the movie was just the right duration. Too much of it would have been irritable and too less would have gone unnoticed. Just the right amount of flavor.

Movies such as this just end without dime or reason, here the director sets up the premise and ends it at the right pace, which is commendable. Does he solve all the mystery? yes. Is the reasons believable? Yes. so what more could you ask for in a sci-fi movie? I have watched the movie "Back to the future" many times and every time i wonder how did they get it so right, heres India's answer to Back To That Future. Just perfect use of Indian cinema sense without giving away the science and technology factor which is a pivotal factor in this movie The only downside of this movie was the songs, i felt it was not needed, but i agree its not a Hollywood movie to do that, but i just hope the director gives many more movies like this rather than just brag about this movie and vanishes from the cinema field.

A must-watch fun sci-fi movie which concludes with a simple message as well.

Good inspirational movie
8 August 2015
In the world where movie is commercialised, this movies moves to go-getter feminist attitude genre and does a good job in it. If you like Jyothika in Mozhi then read no further, you will love this movie. From the premise, taking acquisition for her husband, to cliché of sacrificing her career for her family the movie tells you one thing and one thing only. JO, audience she is the only soul who you will root for in the next 2 hours and that's it.

And she has done a exceptional job, you can see her maturity in acting skills as she does every movie and i think this movie is just for that demographic who wants to see on her theaters once again. I respect her for her commitment This movie just sounds like a bio-pic and you would want to see how she surpasses all those obstacles and emerge victorious. Set aside that fact, the other characters have done a good job as well. Yes, they don't have much of screen space but in the scenes they come in, they have been used really cleverly.

Rahman, this guy was really good, he was asked to be a male oppressive douche bag and he is exactly that, very believable. Granted, he has that from his general appearance, still he doesn't act over the top, and still makes you hate the character more so that you want to root for our lead, Jo.

I wonder, for a kid who idiolises her mom, the director has not given the right dialogues for the kid in the movie. I mean Mithila had put her mom on the map, so she should have been given a more lovable role, but she is as equally as hateable as her dad, but since she is a kid gets that concession.

Jayaprakash and Nassar does a guest appearance which is not required, i just wish such highly competent actors does a more substantial role and Delhi Ganesh has been grossly underplayed. Until the interval the movie was giving us bread crumbs in all different directions and after interval i believe the movie has just lost that grip and moved into a "overnight billionaire" attitude. That is where i did not feel involved and was not inline with the thinking of the movie. Everything she touches turns to gold, yes such things are possible in real life but the director should have paced it really well and given some hard working labour intensive scenes just to show Women are no less than Men. I find that missing, the premise did that, women working in different jobs, i loved to watch that, but later on when creating the bigger success picture, nothing is shown, no pain is depicted, and it just felt that for such a intriguing premise set, the movie rushed all in the end.

The movie such as this would want some comedy relief, which was again missing, some jokes fell really flat and was not worth the chuckle. Also i felt many scenes were shot with a different perspective and later shoehorned into the movie just because they shot, it did not contribute to the screenplay nor the story of the movie (e.g., The accident scene, marathon song).

The acting by everyone was good and they were the character you want them to be, a predictable script and the fact that the movie knew this made the run time really short, very good thinking! You can never look away in the scenes Jo is in, which is pretty much 98% of the movie and the social message though lacks depth is likable and kept me thinking if should think about fruits and vegetables the same way.

You would surely not be disappointed with the movie, but i guess this movie just tells you Jyothika still got it and do not write her down. Should watch with the family and will and should think about implementing some concepts.

A well made intriguing sci-fi movie
7 August 2015
You get tagged along in the movie and go where the hero goes. That's the movie plot in one line. It is a very pacey movie but the good things you get to ride along, so many things so good in this movie i can't believe i didn't watch this movie long time ago.

Bradley Cooper, one word for his acting, WOW. So from the trailer you know, the movie basically spins around him, so no surprises there. He has done a exceptional job in this. From the premise you see him standing at the edge of terrace and looking like a weirdo on the street his characterisation was just perfect. If not for anything you can watch this movie just for him.

The other characters in the movie, they come and disappear just like lightning. That's not just a metaphor for sudden appearance, they are so powerful as well. The first guy who introduces the pill, perfect. Robert De Niro, i don't think this guy even knew they were filming it, he was just being himself and so awesome in what he does. The money lending asshole, very cool. Every character is given a thoughtful screen space and they mark their stand in that scene and no traces of them after that.

Now that is a positive for the character, but slight negative for the movie. At times i began to wonder should it have to Robert De Niro, would it make a difference if someone else was in that scene? Probably not, he was good, but again in the bigger scheme of things he was just being a douche bag in trying to make Bradley his bitch, so anyone with a grumpy attitude as that could have played and i still would have watched it.

I don't want to be nitpick, but for the Bradley cooper the guy he is shown, i just couldn't accept he knows everything from all over. Yes, some facts were OK, but striking a conversation with every human being possible, i just cannot agree. In the beginning you get the weird camera angle which was disturbing enough, but when they bring it again, i felt a bit like getting sucked in and irritated me. Maybe the director wanted a first person camera angle, but that was not a selling point and could have avoided. Also the movie just ended, i mean literally it was just the director had a call from his home and decided to end the movie. It just snapped and the movie closed. For a movie that was being so realistic and detailed as it is, a clichéd ending was not acceptable at all. I was really disappointed and the explanations given by Cooper on the sidewalk was total bullshit. The movie should have ended with Cooper stranded on the terrace and making the audience guess what could have he done, now that would have been awesome. In the end movie actually advocates taking pills to enhance your memory which is not a good message for kids. I know kids are not dumb enough to follow a movie's advice, but still a responsible media platform such a movie shouldn't promote such a message

Nevertheless, i was throughly enjoyed towards the entire movie sans the ending and i would believe everyone would have a good time as well.

Romeo Juliet (2015)

You can watch this movie only if there is a gun to your head
6 August 2015
A typical rom-com, well what should be my expectations? we all know its gonna sway happy side and is not gonna have any mystery to solve, so the bar is already very low, the only expectation was good performances from the lead actors. And that is, missing.

The movie is the pinnacle of clichés, do you remember the TV serials, even if you don't watch it for a year and watch it again, you can still understand what the story is in a couple of minutes. This will give you the exact experience, nothing in this movie is awe-inspiring. I thought Jeyam Ravi could not get any worse after watching Thillalangadi, but he proves he can get a lot worse like this movie. Am truly surprised with this actor, he gives some stunning performances in the past and fades away. Even Nimindhu Nil was a not a blockbuster, but i really liked his realistic acting, he has got skill but he has just taken a oath to screw it more and more with every dumb movie like this I don't even want to talk about Hansika Motwani, she desperately tries to a bitch in the first half and ends up being a laughing stock. The same duo did a movie Engeyum Kadal, again it was a typical rom-com but it was much better movie only because of their acting, why does the director not understand this fact? If you think about the story it has got substance, a wannabe rich girl and a honest lover boy, its definitely not a bad ploy and i have seen worse, but no where in the movie the actors realise their character and makes a complete parody of it with their acting.

If a actor swears in the movie and you end up laughing, that by itself tells you where the movie is headed. Utter disbelief, the movie is way too long.. Again lets look at Engeyum Kadhal, the movie had very limited scope to entertain and the director knew it, the movie was just over 2 hours and if we take away 5 beautiful songs, it would just be an hour and half, which is totally acceptable. Here, the intro where we see 10 minutes of dub smash from various movies, which was no way related to the movie, that right there says the director has no confidence. The movie tries to be clever with the narration but as a thumb rule, narration should only used when you are backtracking events, not when you are going with the movie as it goes. Doesn't solve the purpose, it is like announcing in you marriage with a megaphone to all your relatives that you are getting married. Duh, they know it and that's why they are there.

A mediocre script made worse by pathetic screenplay and lackluster performances from two actors who have given some good movies in the past. A rom-com with awful songs is never gonna be remembered and this movie will be forgotten even before the end credits.

A good movie, but could have been better
5 August 2015
This movie shows a lot of potential, but just does not capture the magic

Yes, it is a very watchable movie and you will most probably be glad that you did. Yet it does not focus on one direction and keeps you riveted like a movie Indian, Mudalvan, etc. There are few parts in the movie which you don't have to look at screen and still be able to understand what's going on, e.g., Songs. Waste of time seriously

Apart from that, the movie starts off with a very intriguing premise like Saroja and works backwards to give you a feel of what was the actions that led to what happens right now, that is kind of cool and now we have a movie. The narration given by hero was really poor, could have not done that at all, apart from that its kind of good.

This is the first time i see Aadhi has hero who tries to move away from his macho man, fearless ass-kicker look to a much more refined next door boy look, good attempt. But still has got a lot of work to do. I guess while acting he was trying to get inspirations for comedy from various actors, and nothing from innate skills. He falls low on that, nevertheless it's about time he understands the survival in this industry is about offering variety.

None of the cast in this movie has never made a big blockbuster and it shows in their acting, they worked for this movie, but still got lot to learn. The importance given to the heroine is very dismal in this movie, does not rattle the screenplay at all except a few comedy relief and portrayed as a no-fear woman who could have been used in the closure, but for the main message this movie is trying to convey she vanishes after the first half, a bit disappointed.

The Cameo performances from some actors who were really good in their brief moment, later formed as a pivotal role in the bigger picture, nice thinking by director.

The movie suffers from 2 main flaws:

1. Delering a message: Yes, we have a bigger message - Shut up if you got nothing nice to say. But again that is overshadowed by so many other messages. A Hero who is trying to win the confidence of his dad. A guy who is trying to comprehend the love life and how would he win Friendship is everything.

These all worked individually, but together it was a bit confusing. You were supposed to care for them, but next scene something happens, you tend to suspect them. Director should have stuck with one message and just focused on that

2. The Ending: OMG, i rated the movie down for this, there were like 3 different times this movie could have ended, but chose not to. It just went on and on. If it had ended at the first place i would have been really happy, but they made it so convoluted and violent just to give our Hero a toe-to-toe stand with the villain was atrocious.

Apart from that, the movie did deliver the message, some comedy relief was enjoyable, the premise is very intriguing and keeps you guessing, amazing cameos who acted very realistically and stole the show. You can leave the movie 20 minutes before and be completely satisfied or watch that and be a little bit less satisfied. Aadhi please be versatile like this and you will go places

Movie promises to be a lot more, but stops half-way
2 August 2015
I just feel this movie has bitten more than it can chew. The movie is a roller coaster of emotions and the lows are really low and boring. But lots of good factors to consider.

The actors: Each of them have given their ace performance. I was hoping i would only care of Liam Neeson, but no, everyone in this movie has come good and that makes it a complete package of inclusiveness with audience (4/5)

The thrills: Granted, the first appearance of the wolves, as seen in the trailers was scary but again the scene was stopped just there and nothing dramatic happens which one might expect, a let down. Other thrills with the growling and howling was not scary, it was very much like watching Animal Planet instead of wolves hunting other animals it was hunting humans. (1/5)

The plot: Very weak and predictable, The movie starts with the freezing temperature which is potent enough to kill someone, then wolves, then some treacherous escape plans, and emotional breakdowns, NO, if only it had stuck with one of these and had done a detail job in how they survive i would have been throughly enjoyed (like Cast Away), the movie fails in that and in the end you don't actually have a memorable scene. (2/5)

Surival strategy: Very thin, so you run from the wolves, that's it? no clever killing mechanism, nothing? that's just dumb luck and not intriguing enough. (1/5)

The weak point: The flashbacks The movie cuts back and forth in Liam Neeson's past and present life and you lose the thrill from the beast that is haunting the pack. It is just like entering a Spa session in the middle of a Marketing Meeting with the CEO. And the movie run time is way too long

All in all th team comes across wide range of peril and survive just by sheer luck, which is not a survival instinctive movie. But for the performances and a couple of thrills it is a one-time watch

Kung Fu Panda (2008)

Hell yeah, go Dreamworks
30 July 2015
Animation studios should fight out it out like the other ones. Yes, i think this movie does just that

What's not to like in this movie? OMG from premise to the end, the movie keeps you engaged like crazy. You knew the Panda was gonna end up a fighter, but you don't know how. Are they gonna the route of Karate Kid, is it gonna end like Rocky but i think both these movies are unsuitable for kids, so how are they gonna succeed?

Well, you take the funny route, but then will it just be a slapstick comedy which just passes on scene by scene with no correlation? No, that is where exceptional direction comes to place. And you see that throughout the movie. Everything in this movie is just perfect for kids and surprisingly for adults as well

But apart from that lot of clichés in the movie.

The hero, a underdog who always fantasies Kung fu, Check.

The Villain, who wants to take on the underdog, Check.

A master who does not trust in the hero, Check.

The list could go on and on, but the director pulled off a masterpiece even with all these and that's remarkable. I have never been a fan of Jack Black, i liked him after Tropic Thunder, but the voice of Po in this is just perfect, no one could have done it better, he has the right voice of a innocent wannabe kung-fu champ and a fun panda, perfect casting. Other supporting characters are also done well, the only let down was Jackie Chan, am a big fan of him and would have seen him a bigger role, but i guess his actions are more enjoyable than his talks and hence was given a mellow character, i respect that.

Tai Lang is the scariest and perfect villain ever created by any animated movie. In my world, that guy could stand toe-to-toe with any human villains and still kick ass. He is just my favorite and the scenes he is in, just steals the show, the detailing was fantastic, he makes you feel, yes he has got to be the Dragon Warrior, come on, not the Panda, but the back story for not making him is buyable.

I have never been so entertained ever since Incredibles and i would say if the movie just had a little bit more Wow moments and better Family ties, i would say its better than incredibles. well that's a personal choice. But all in all a fantastic movie, you will have fun, laugh and made for everyone in the family.

A sequel done just right!
30 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
You don't do a sequel unless its created by Dreamworks Animation and directed like Kung-Fu Panda 2.

That could be the bumper sticker for the movie theaters. Seriously.

Many times, sequels just throw a couple of new villains and force us to like the characters, eventually fail in that. Here we have a sequel which runs more like a prequel and uncanny for a Animation movie. The movie has got lot of story to it, you do not expect that at all

Granted it's got the Po moments and a Mission Impossible style mission to save Kung-fu. But it's likable. The more difficult part in sequels is people have a frame of reference to compare, and it's hard enough to satisfy that when the first movie was just a huge success. The bars are set really high and reach them would be a big ask, but if that's done the movie will succeed. Most times sequels are rated down because of this fact alone, in this franchise this movie reaches the predecessor success but is scared to take it further.

Positives about this movie: I like how the story unfolds and how the movie has got a lot more purpose than just creating another animation movie.

A lot of unanswered questions are looked at, which is nice. You might not have wondered about it in the first one as it was way too mind-blowingly awesome, but the director has taken a second reading at that script and addressed those open ends, Good work.

Colors: One word -Fantastic. Yes the fight with Tai lung was epic, funny and to up the ante in this movie, the movie writers have taken colors as a option and it has made wonders. It looked so good in the theaters that i wanted to see the movie again.

Negatives: Well, there were some and i did not expect them in this franchise 1. The villain, yes he creates cool weapons but not menacing enough as Tai Lung, he is a Peacock and the fact that worked for the movie was a tough ask, but again doesn't look villain enough 2. Too many cooks, the finale was supposed to be peacock versus panda, but bringing in Shifu, the other fighters just shows the directors is not confident about the script.

There are a couple of more negatives but not worth mentioning, i guess more of these come on board because the first movie was so good, Other sequels such as Madagascar, Ice age have been rated better than its predecessor because they got better with sequels. Here the director has matched the success of first movie which was a huge ask, but the movie feels a bit dragged by legacy sometimes, nevertheless a must watch fun movie by Dreamworks, i would be glad if they stop with this, but i guess they are not going to, let's see the next one pan out
