Brando at his best
31 January 2006
I never really understood Shakepeare until I saw Brando As Mark Antony in this film. What a performance, the speech he gives to the crowd after Caesar had been murdered ( Friend , Romans, Countrymen etc )is electrifying. Never have I seen that speech so powerfully given as by Brando. Any one wishing to study acting check this out, Sorry to all those so called brilliant English stage actors but Brando is the one to show you how to act. This movie if filmed in color would have a reputation as one of the greatest movies of all time, however it gets relegated to the late late night show too often, while we mortals have to watch bad movies and awful acting in prime time. How can the kids of today learn there is a difference.

Why persist in making remakes of classic movies
31 January 2006
I accidentally stumbled on this movie channel surfing and now regret channel surfing! How bad a movie is this in that the acting is horrible. Mr. Baldwin please note only Brando and Dean could get away with the attitude and look you try to convey here. As for Mr Fishburne I have had enough of Black actors conveying that everyone in the world owes them. The original of this movie was the Defiant Ones with two great actors in Tony Curtis and Sydney Poitier and was a classic in story line and acting, this is BAD. There is a scene early in the movie where a good ole boy holds a shotgun on the two escaped convicts, but talks to them and does not shoot them. He would have done us all a favor and finished the movie there and then

Fine tribute to Ricky Nelson
18 January 2006
A very rarely seen concert featuring one of the last performances by Rick Nelson and his band before the dreadful air crash which deprived the world of one of the last great superstar performers. Rick thankfully is in fine voice and seems in a great mood while he performs some of his legendary hits. The band is comprised of some of Nahville's finest musicians, the only part I disliked was Fats Domino, although the duet on Rick's first recording of I'm WAlking was a monumental moment to treasure. I also saw Rick in concert two months before he died and can attest he was finally going back to his earlier roots of rock n roll, and it is sad not enough people could see the return of such a great artist.

what happened to movie making?
11 January 2005
what a disgrace to movie making. bad acting, and the most unbelievable script. the star of the movie(who should have stuck to his Karate skills instead of trying to act,who I will not even try to remember his name and hope he retires from the business. Maybe he should have been the new superman for the unbelievable number of times he should have been killed in the movie yet barely gets a scratch.Do film makers think that making a movie with a large number of stunts, destroying vehicles etc make a film. To the writer and Director go back to school and learn your craft. This movie is a disgrace.I did find one nice feature of the film. The scenery and color are nice. Life is too short to waste watching junk.

Brilliant
11 January 2005
One of the greatest movies ever made, yet so underrated by the public.A fabulous ensemble cast in Lemmon,Pacino,Baldwin ( the first time I ever enjoyed his acting)and Kevin Spacey.Pacino was nominated for an Oscar as best supporting actor. He should have won. His performance as hot shot salesman Ricky Roma is sensational as is Jack Lemmon's performance as a former top salesman now on the skids.Anyone contemplating becoming an actor should keep this movie in your favorites and study it for techniques in acting, directing, photography, and brilliant writing.I love this movie, and have watched it on numerous occasions and always found something new it had to offer. It almost makes a person never want to join the world of real estate.

wonderful spoof on today's music/film scene
11 January 2005
Pacino is an incredible actor, probably the only one who tried to make something special out of this move. A wonderful spoof on all the hyped up no talent acts that are out in the world today,Pacino does a fine job as a has been producer creating a talent from his own imagination. How close to the real world when we see Simone become a star, and the idol of millions all due to Pacino's imagination. think about today's so called musical and film stars and see if this film doesn't remind you of them.A change of pace for Al when he made this movie but not one that will gain him new fans, he is more effective in darker movies, though he has tried some light comedy to mention "Author,Author", "Dick Tracey", "Frankie and Johnny" he is better suited to tight drama. To see Pacino at this best check the underrated "Glengarry Glenross" and see what acting is all about when you have a great ensemble cast and brilliant script.

what went wrong?
11 January 2005
this movie should have been a wonderful spoof on the James Bond movies,it had Rowan Atkinson as a would be Super spy, in what should have been some hilarious film making. So what went wrong? bad script, bad acting, bad direction, all of the above but there is nothing worse than having to listen to John Malcovitch's dreadful irritating attempt at a French accent. I don't know what is worse the accent or his dreadful hairstyle, left over from the 1970's perhaps. There were reports in the U.S. that Rowan was so upset over the reviews for this movie that he went into some kind of rehab for his depression.I don't blame him I was depressed watching this movie.Atkinson is a marvellous comedian deserving better than this mish mash.I heard a sequel is due, take heed ,Rowan, get it right people quickly forget the good and easily remember the bad.Careers have gone downhill and never recovered.

the start of the end for serious Elvis movies
29 December 2004
While this is one of Elvis' greatest and fun movies it is a great shame that it was so successful, as it ruined the promise of a wonderful movie career for the King. The scenery and songs are unmatched and it is a fairly decent script, even after some sour comments from Angela Lansbury. Ms. Lansbury has constantly degraded this movie but she made a wonderful appearance as Elvis's mother, and I am sure gave her new fans. This movie was also responsible along with Hawaii Five-O as giving tourism to the Islands a big boost, but have the Hawaiian Tourist Bureau ever mentioned this. 40 years on it is still a treat to watch, and still surpasses some of today's so called "hot movies".Due to the popularity of Blue Hawaii El's management told him this was the way to go.Such a shame.

Why do filmmakers do remakes?
17 December 2004
Any one who saw the original would have to go out and destroy this dreadful remake. Alex Baldwin trying to imitate the late Steve Mcqueen in a word for word remake just doesn't work. While Baldwin has done some admirable work this is a flop from start to finish. McQueen had charisma, never try to compete with a star. As for Kim in the role of Ali McGraw enough said. McQueen looked dangerous, menacing and believable as Doc, the film had excitement and suspense,Baldwin and company made this into a comedy,I laughed the one and only time I saw this miserable film. And that dreadful hairstyle for Michael Madsen who is one of today's more exciting and believable actors! Did the makeup people have it in for Michael, what were they thinking. If you wish to see movie-making the way it was under Sam Peckinpah's direction Get the original!
