A good, fun and bloated movie
7 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I'm honestly surprised this movie clocked in at only 1 hour and 55 minutes, it felt like 2.5 hours watching it. This movie suffers from the current trend of having every conversation take place in a new setting, the green screen paradox if you will. Everything was, you liked that, well here is twice that, mostly w/o explanation - One Hollow Earth, how about Hollow, Hollow Earth? Or let's spend a few minutes showing off this cool camouflage that we won't use, but it looks cool

Each Kaiju battle needed to take place in a new city because? How many Pyramids are there, or were there?

Scar King was super cool, but why were they mining(?) the earth. Again, it just looks sort of cool and gives you a chance to see Scar be Scar but, what were they doing? No explanation. That being said you understood the Shimou/Scarr relationship.

Casting wise, Trapper was played by (not) Bradley Cooper and the Pilot was (not) Jack Black, Ilene tried to channel Kristen Wig, etc. Etc. Felt like Jumanji at times

In the end, its a Godzilla Kong buddy movie, fishts were fun ans Scar was legit opponent.

Next movie we'll discover Jia's twin sister or she'll be cloned?

Worth a matinee ticket.

4 Episodes in...
2 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
At first I was interested, the story seemed to have potential, acting was solid, the CGI was good. Then episode 3 aired and I was like OK, now were getting somewhere (kind of), then episode 4 lands and I kept hitting fast forward to get to something that seemed remotely interesting and nothing...

The whole premise of Monarch and its connection with Godzilla and Kong to me seems 'meh. I'm here for Godzilla, Kong, Mecha Godzilla, etc., not stories of teens. Seriously, episode 4 had 80% of the time devoted to the Kentaro and Kiesery's relationship.

Kurt Russel's character supposedly served in WWII, let's say 1945 were he was maybe 20. He would have been 90 years old in 2015. I'm sorry that's a severe leap of faith to believe a 90 year old man would be running around like he was 60 or 50. Again, leap of faith/logic...

Speaking of leaps of faith, the two siblings who are lets say 30, that means their dad was 60 or so when they were born, not unusual but the idea their 90 year old dad was somehow out there, 1 step ahead of Monarch seems suspect. T

The "Monsters" have been lame, Godzilla has been a no show except for the flashback. But wait, something's happening! See, the 1970s - Sterno Receiver/Computer thingy is somehow blinking!! ...despite not being plugged in. Fortunately it has the correct cable to connect it with the new computer. Again, logic leap.

Contrast this with Godzilla Minus One, which introduces a plausible origin story to Godzilla and his kind, has a compelling/competent story and acting. It's 75% story yet you don't feel robbed of what you came to see, Godzilla.

More Mutant Vampires, less everything else
11 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So.......thanks to TUBI's recommendation, I watched this film. I enjoy a good low budget film but come on man, this was so lame.

The Danny McBride douche bag is so unlikable, honestly pretty much everyone is annoying. The best part of the movie was the beginning, until the boyfriend gets killed, unfortunately there were an additional 118 minutes or so left.

2/3 of the film was just annoying dialog about getting drunk, high or having sex.

Velocipastor is an excellent example of schlock done right, the story was good, acting/directing was good, etc. Mutant Vampires from Planet Neptune is none of that. ...speaking a the Title, were there actually more than one Vampire? Inquiring minds want to know, not really but whatever.

I give it two Stars because someone put in the work to write, direct, act and produce this film. So many better options.

It is what it is and that's just fine
10 November 2023
Amazingly I've never seen this until today (thanks TUBI)

It's classic Jules Vern, "modern" 1890ish men travel back in time via a comet(?), or they are transported by said comet to another Earth-like planet that is still in the paleolithic period (that time when men existed with giant dragons with stuff glued onto them, mole men, and cow sized woolly mammoths, etc.)

These very educated men begin their journey as men of their time did, challenging each other to a dual. Things happen, dragons fight, like a lot, men meet women, women like men, etc. Etc.

I mean come on, it's a 1961 sound stage, clip movie, sit back and enjoy it for what it is.

TV Movie or Theatrical Movie? You're guess is as good as mine
18 October 2023
First of all, this movie is awful - not good awful, worse, mediocre awful. Somewhere in California in the mid '70's someone was stoned and watched Planter of Apes and One Million Years BC one night and thought, Dude, I've got an idea for a movie!

Ah the 1970's where every man had a beard or mustache, space uniforms were tight polyester and Rule #1 was no one could look look dirty despite falling, running, etc.

I'm guessing they filmed the movie in days without ever doing a retake or, at the very least, only 1 retake was allowed per shot. Good enough was the mantra.

The Dinosaur stop motion was passable given the budget and direction.

Honestly this moving screams TV movie w/o any of the B or C List actors involved. Maybe the guy who was stoned when coming up with this movie had the right idea, watch with "help"

Unnecessary sequel and somehow linked to Strange Brew
18 October 2023
I liked Wolf Cop a lot, but this sequel felt 'meh. As I'm watching it, something seemed familiar.... Hmmm... Beer (check, but honestly, I mean it is a Canadian film, so is that a given?) Evil Scientists/Beer Manufacturer (check) Ice Rink showdown (check) Canadians (check, albeit without the over-the-top accents) ...where have I seen this before? Strange Brew! I mean come on Hoser, ya can't deny the similarities, so is this really Wolf Cop 2, a Stanger Brew

Honestly worth a watch as background noise, can't say there's a no skip moment. Thank god for the likes of TUBI , defiantly not worth a rental or purchase.

Air Conditioning is our savior?
31 May 2022
I generally love 1950's Sci-fi regardless of quality. But this movie was really lame. It has all the hallmarks of that era in film, belief in science, god and tons of stock footage of rockets launching. I actually was rooting for the asteroids to destroy the world and put an end to listening to McLaren's wife incessant whining. Fortunately for mankind, the AC was there to save the day.
