Magic Sticks (1987)
8/10
A bygone era
10 August 2005
Magic Sticks is a film from a bygone era. Yes the plot is bizarre, yes the acting isn't amazing, but it has something that has disappeared from moder films. Innocence. Today's films have no plot, no good acting, cheesy computer generated effects and boring direction.

The film has no useless sex scenes and no scenes of real violence. It is the stereotypical nonsense 1980s film that is thoroughly enjoyable.

It's in the Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and Breakfast Club mould. The story is not important, it's the characters and the humour that are important.

The scene where Reginald Veljohnson is going to rob the security truck at Tiffany's is brilliant, and one of the funniest scenes seen on camera since the Marx Brothers.

This film is underrated and under valued.

Give me Magic Sticks any day over the garbage that gets churned out by the studios now.
