Extreme Movie (2008)
Even the Razzies spat this crud out.
From the offset this film tries so hard to pull off a 1999 teen comedy spoof, though it fails cringefully. The movie is just one incoherent skit to another - all involving different characters, with flashes to an awful 'Street confessions' mock TV show and film editing transitions of white noise, how windows 95. Also talent wise Frankie Muniz headlines the movie, which for an out of work child actor doesn't say a lot. Big name Michael Cera looks embarrassed through trying to bounce off other wooden 'actors' (I doubt they were even that) involved a small role in an equally unfunny scenario. And the porn scene... I think it's safe to say SAG have no idea where those artistes were hired from. The writers also embarrassed themselves implementing poor, poor imitation scenes from Weird Science, Girl Next Door and Not Another Teen Movie, so much it ruins the original.
Overall I felt hurt I had wasted my time watching this film, the very least they could have done was edit it so it all stories were linked and thus gave somewhat correlated chronology of events, instead of mind wobbling mess of themes. There was a main plot of the film nestled inbetween the separate dire toilet humour gags, though it was underdeveloped and poor.
Prom Night (2008)
Watch this if you like Lindsay/Paris/Bring It On
This film is made for the type of people who don't need much suspense or plot to want to see this. Possibly its good points lie in its soundtrack and occasional humour, ideally the film is a date movie for anyone under 20. The main character is as plastic as Barbie and you won't want to see this film unless you could sit through Clueless. The plot itself has some gaping wholes, and some BAD cinematography including some very eighties stuttering slash scenes. As is any teen slasher there is a creepy looking bad guy, except in Prom Night, you might be offended as he isn't actually that bad, adding more to conclusion that if you haven't got that blonde cheerleader mind set this film will be tough to envisage seriously.
Life and Lyrics (2006)
Brixton meets 8 Mile road. *spoilers*
Think what you think, Life and Lyrics put Brixton on the map in the film world. Asher D ironically but educationally highlights this film after being behind bars for gun possession. Asher D inevitably headlines in a film that was overshadowed by Bullet Boy, Rolling with the 9s and the brilliant Kidulthood. Asher plays Danny Lewis an aspiring DJ struggling to get known, whilst working in a empty record shop regularly losing battles with his crew *Motion Crew* (cue cameo from UK hip-hop artist Baby Blue, and BBC favourite Reggie Yates) against rivals *Hard Cash Crew* lead by Hard Cash. Danny reveals his sympathetic past as an orphan growing up with his best friend Fabel; who in turn has a sub storyline about finding his mother. Danny falls for the rival love interest, angers Hard Cash their leader who in turn sets out to get Danny. Hard Cash *worst actor who makes this film look like a carry on movie* has financial problems from dealers, raids Fabels flat stealing everything he has, Fabel lights Hard Cashs car (a Saab which is apparently *swag*)which he needs to sell for money...this leads him to buy a gun.. and attack Danny. So then the finale Fabel meets his mum, Danny gets with the girl only to compete against her in the battle.. *SPOILER* obviously Motion Crew win, Hard Cash goes mental and runs outside to kill Danny only to shoot Fabel and kill him, cue the end.
Overall, I would give this film 10 because of anything to encourage the British Film Industry.. and I genuinely liked it.. though I saw it for free with my college. I would recommend it to fans of Kidulthood.
Spice World (1997)
Just what you expect from Brit-Pop low budget movie.
I was very early tweens when the Spice Girls dominated the world, and I remember the film coming out to cinemas; counting down the days till I could go see it! As a child and massive fan I found the film entertaining as it was to cracked up to be, it was all the phenomenon of the time. Looking back now it was a great time for me enjoying it and themselves as a girl group enjoying massive success and this is why I can accept why the film may not be any BAFTA hands down winner, obviously the film was never meant to be! It was written by their managers wife! And has too many more than subtle references about Britain. The acting is cheesy but no way did it tarnish any of the many important actors/comedians/singers who cameo'd in this film because as I remember Richard E. Grant saying it was just so great to be part of the experience, it really was a time-line in history. Now who cares whether he was lying or being honest we know he is an actor who gets paid big bucks, but the fact Roger Moore was in this film and Meatloaf, I don't think you can call them all sellouts. Fact is Spice Girls did make an impact on us all, this is just a bit of history left to show their mark.
Monster Cafe (1994)
I loved this
Every morning before I went to primary school I used to watch this, my brother and me loved it. It was funny and ever so slightly BBC'd over the top. It is based around a bunch of monsters that run a café, always trying to avoid and play jokes on their manager the countess. Not scary but very funny. Sometimes they replay it in the holidays at about 7am, it was on recently this summer and I got to experience it all again. So much better than anything the BBC does for CBBC now. The acting wasn't bad, I guess it's just a kids show, but still it was great when you were 4/5/6, very imaginative. BBC bring this and other classic shows back, Tracy Beaker is rubbish!
Fun House (1989)
Brilliant TV show for kids!!
"'Fun House, it's a whole lot of fun, with prizes to be won, It's a real crazy show where anything can go!' Pat Sharp with the aid of two blonde twins Mel and Martina host this well, fun, children's game show. The show was originally American format and was shown on ITV in the early 90's.
Pat guides two teams of two children, normally from the same school, into the first few, typically children's quiz rounds, where the team members take it in turns to answer questions and avoid getting covered in gunge.
Then in the next round, the teams compete in the fun house grand prix where they race around the fun house set picking up bonus points. The team which has picked up the most points from all the rounds, then goes on to the best round...the fun house itself! The kids then take it in turns, in the given three minutes, to race around the fun-house and pick up as many prize cards as they can, and bring them back to Pat. One of the prize cards is the power prize which is the super duper best prize in the game, although the contestants don't know which card it is, or where it is. (Although we do at home.) When they pick the card up they hear a cuckoo! Very fun children's game show!" The Editor
Bodger & Badger (1989)
Funny stuff for kids
(Ok, so none of these comments actually explain this show!) Well this show is 25 minutes of a 40-something man who runs a B&B at the seaside with a talking pet Badger and a talking mouse called Mousy. Badger is always up to no good scaring the guests at the B&B and their annoying old woman neighbour... the man usually has to sort out Badgers antics which are a laugh. Strangely enough the badger has a obsession with Mashed Potato which is what this show is based on. Great for anyone 10 and under, currently they are re-running this on the CBBC channel but I doubt kids will wanna watch this as it is visibly aged since new shows like Big Kids and Ace Lightning which have proved to be a success. The CBBC channel is currently replaying all 90's shows like Bodger&Badger, Wildhouse, Queens nose etc... this is the funniest.
