The Courier (2020)
8/10
Cold war but hot movie.
5 August 2021
Felt like watching a decent movie then the buck stops here.

The Courier carries you to the 60's era. Where Cold war was hot.

It showcases the true story of a Britisher business rather a salesman named Grenville Wynne who on a request by CIA becomes a carrier/courier.

Khrushchev seems arrogant and I write America is no less selfish and exploitative.

Benedict Cumberbatch plays Grenville Wynne and looks similar like he looked in the Imitation Game but his acting has improved.

Rachel Brosnahan too looks like Mrs Maisel but this time around she is with CIA. Her acting skills keep you hooked.

Oleg Penkovsky is portrayed by Merab Ninidze.

May be we are two people. But this is how things change.

The real beauty about this movie is subtly but how nicely they show the relationship between two professional which turns into bond till death. The sense of die and live for each other, the compassion is unparalleled. I really hope Bollywood and Indian cinema touches this human angle of just two individuals despite their gender to other differences do something remarkably good.

Writer Tom O'Connor & director Dominic Cooke meet the standard of a decent spy film.

A lot of Anachronism follow which fool the viewers.

Cold war espionage by Russian and Americans is interesting to watch and many films are following this pursuit.

The trauma that spies go through are immense and not just them but their family too faces a lot.

Wynne and Penkovsky smuggled more than 5000 top secret military documents out of USSR and they also helped in easing out the Cuban Missile crisis. Penkovsky is considered the most valuable soviet source ever recruited by the west.

I am going to get home to you.

There is nothing in this movie that you would have not previously seen.

But the good part is it's no nonsense and movie isn't too long like many of it's counterparts and ia available on Amazon Prime Video. Watch it with some real good chesse sandwiches or coleslaw sandwichs and cold pressed juice of your choice.

7 years in Tibet is based on a true story about a man named Heinrich Harrer who is on a trip in the Himalayan mountains. He is an Austrian mountaineer. It all happens at the beginning of world war 2 (1939). The group gets arrested by Indian forces and put in a prisoner of war camp. In 1944 he escapes together with his friend Peter Aufschnaiter. They had to cross 65 Himalayan passes and survive the altitude and cold weather before they came to Lhasa (Capital of Tibet). He becomes a trusted person by the Dalai Lama. In 1950 the Chinese army invaded Tibet and the Dalai Lama has to flee. So does Heinrich Harrer. His years in Tibet have been described in the book 7 years in Tibet which has also been made into a movie. Whilst he lived in Tibet he was active in many projects that benefited the Tibetan people (build a dam, created a map of Lhasa, designed stamps, and became an advisor to the Dalai Lama).

The group gets arrested by Indian forces and put in a prisoner of war camp. In 1944 he escapes together with his friend Peter Aufschnaiter by giving them ice skates and telling them that it is to cut meat. By the time that they have the skates on, they can run away.

The film was filmed in Argentina, Andes, and Canada but also had to be shot at the Himalayan mountains because then a lot of the special effects would show so that the movie would look super realistic and that people would actually believe it. Heinrich Harrer is "The main character". The real story also took place in the Himalayan mountains.

A 1997 American biographical war drama film based on the 1952 book of the same name. In one of the sequence Ngawang Jigme leads the Tibetan army at the border town of Chamdo to halt the advancing People's Liberation Army. However, he ends up surrendering and blows up the Tibetan ammunition dump after the one-sided Battle of Chamdo.

During the treaty signing, Kungo Tsarong tells Harrer that if Jigme had not destroyed the weapons supply, the Tibetan guerrillas could have held the mountain passes for months or even years; long enough to appeal to other nations for help. He also states that, for Tibetans, capitulation is like a death sentence. As the Chinese occupy Tibet, Harrer condemns Ngawang Jigme for betraying his country, declaring their friendship over. Out of anger, Harrer further humiliates the senior official by returning the jacket that Ngawang Jigme gave him as a present, a grave insult in Tibetan culture, as well as by throwing him onto the ground.

Many belive and I agree too that Brad Pitt wasn't the perfect fit for the job, he misplaced the character at many instances.

Interestingly there is another 1997 film directed by Martin Scorsese called "Kundan" a biographical on Dalai Lama. Even before the film was released, China's leaders hotly objected to Disney's plans to distribute the film, even to the point of threatening Disney's future access to China as a market. Disney's steadfastness stood in stark contrast to Universal Pictures, which had earlier "turned down the chance to distribute Kundun for fear of upsetting the Chinese." Scorsese, Mathison, and several other members of the production were banned by the Chinese government from ever entering China as a result of making the film. China retaliated by banning Disney films and pulling Disney television cartoons. Disney apologized in 1998 for releasing the film and began to "undo the damage", eventually leading to a deal to open Shanghai Disneyland by 2016. Former Disney CEO Michael Eisner has appoligised for offending Communist Chinese sensitivities, calling the film "a stupid mistake" and said, "The bad news is that the film was made; the good news is that nobody watched it. Here I want to apologize, and in the future we should prevent this sort of thing, which insults our friends, from happening.

The Central Tibetan Administration is Tibet's elected parliamentary government based in Dharamshala, India. It is also referred to as the Tibetan Government in Exile. It is composed of a judiciary branch, a legislative branch, and an executive branch. Since its formation in 1959, the Central Tibetan Administration has not been officially recognised by China. The Tibetan diaspora and refugees support the Central Tibetan Administration by voting for members of Parliament, the President and by making annual financial contributions through the use of the "Green Book." The Central Tibetan Administration also receives international support from organisations and individuals.

The Central Tibetan Administration's internal structure is governmental; it has stated that it is "not designed to take power in Tibet"; rather, it will be dissolved "as soon as freedom is restored in Tibet" in favour of a government formed by Tibetans inside Tibet. The Central Tibetan Administration is headquartered in McLeod Ganj, Dharamshala, India. It represents the people of the entire Tibet Autonomous Region and Qinghai province, as well as two Tibetan Autonomous Prefectures and one Tibetan Autonomous County in Sichuan Province, one Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and one Tibetan Autonomous County in Gansu Province and one Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province- all of which is termed "Historic Tibet" by the CTA.

The CTA attends to the welfare of the Tibetan exile community in India, who number around 100,000. It runs schools, health services, cultural activities and economic development projects for the Tibetan community. More than 1,000 refugees still arrive each year from China, usually via Nepal. The Central Tibetan Authority is not recognised as a sovereign government by any country, but it receives financial aid from governments and international organisations for its welfare work among the Tibetan exile community in India.

The movie shows Kalachakra Mandala beautifully. Kalachakra term in Vajrayana Buddhism that means "wheel of time" or "time cycles". "Kalacakra" is also the name of a series of Buddhist texts and a major practice lineage in Indian Buddhism and Tibetan Buddhism. The Klacakratantra contains various ideas about society, the individual's place in society and how they are interrelated. These provide a sociological theory which forms the framework for the Klacakratantra's ideas on history, prophecy and soteriology. The Golden Urn refers to a method introduced by the Qing dynasty of China in the late-18th century to select rinpoches, lamas and other high offices within Tibetan Buddhism. Dharanis also known as a Parittas, are Buddhist chants, mnemonic codes, incantations, or recitations, usually the mantras consisting of Sanskrit or Pali phrases. Believed to be protective and with powers to generate merit for the Buddhist devotee, they constitute a major part of historic Buddhist literature. Many of these chants are in Sanskrit and Pali, written in scripts such as Siddham as well as transliterated into Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Sinhala, Thai and other regional scripts.

Dharanis are found in the ancient texts of all major traditions of Buddhism. They are a major part of the Pali canon preserved by the Theravada tradition. Mahayana sutras - such as the Lotus Sutra and the Heart Sutra - include or conclude with dharani. Gelug is the newest and currently most dominant school of Tibetan Buddhism. It was founded by Je Tsongkhapa (1357-1419), a Tibetan philosopher, tantric yogi and lama.

A watchable film ignoring Brad's shortfalls, makes you live and think. I personally liked the companionship of Dalai Lama with Heinrich.

Go get some fresh, hot steamed MOMO's or Thupka or Noodles / try some butter tea and biscuits along and play this beautifull film avaiilable on Netflix.

Sherni (2021)
8/10
Unusual but well.
19 June 2021
Unusual in Bollywood, much appreciated.

SHERNI feels beautiful as much as Newton but it's not as brilliant like the former.

A lot of ruralness.. Naturally calming and sensitive. Newton was set in the forests of Chhattisgarh. Sherni is in the jungles of Madhya Pradesh. Like in Newton, here also, the protagonist Vidya Vincent (are har baar Vidhya Balan ka naam movie me Vidhya hi hoga kya?) is a government officer a DFO to he precise, trying to do the "right" thing not just being "right" or inclining towards "left" or "right" in a rotten system.

Sherni a persian word meaning a tigress, some Marathi surnames are Wagh/Waghmare. It would hage been different if Vidhya character was named Wagh or Waghmare (ironical though).

T12 is the "adamkhor" sherni's name is also the name of the largest bone in the middle-vertebral column. In short, it denotes a "spine". Many underlayers which are never specified throughout the film.

Sherni refers the one searching fir food and the other one Vidhya searching for some good.

Sherni On Prime Video, is about A Man-Eating Tiger or as they call it "Adam khor sherni" , Where the actual Villains Are not villagers or just People like you and me but political brass and bureaucrats.

A hunter named Pintu bhaiya, played nicely by Sharat Saxena, whose masculinity and pride rests on the number of animals he has "hunted". He is amazing to watch on screen.

Yes the film is non preachy and important objectives are conveyed through conversations among officers and instructions to rural masses.

Loved Illa Arun and her scenes of Patriarchal normalization. North-south divide clearly visible.

It's got potential but I still felt a lot went unexplored, also it does not takedown on bureaucracy or becomes preachy rather accepts and understands the system.

Would have loved to see some more character of Vidhya, she's compressed and controlled. Her husband Mukul Chadha (Sunflower wala) has no persona at all in this movie. Vijay Raaz makes you fall in love with Zoology and his simple character, and same with Bansal ji that is Brijendra Kala, so does Neeraj Kabi bring elegance to his.

DOP Rakesh Haridas does a visual appeal from the first shot itself. And a song by Banish Projekt makes it interesting.

Director: Amit V Masurkar Writers: Amit V Masurkar, Yashasvi Mishra and Aastha Tiku Cinematography: Rakesh Haridas Edited by: Dipika Kalra Starring: Vidya Balan, Vijay Raaz, Sharat Saxena, Mukul Chadda, Neeraj Kabi, Brijendra Kala and Ila Arun Streaming on: Amazon Prime Video Just go make a tub of popcorn, then split them in 3 bowls and add peri peri masala into one, desi tikka masala in another, and in last add any sauce -from sweet & chilli to hot pepper/Tobasco to Schwan and savour these and movie together.

Not logical but enjoyable.
19 June 2021
The film starts and stars local goon, Suruli from Madurai, played effortlessly by Dhanush. His car comes and lands on a a plain better railway tracks and then disappears. Start is shaky but it then picks up just like we all pick up a pack full of air.. Oops chips in a supermarket.

The white guy looks like KFC colonel Sanders enough of our stupid and non real interpretations of foreigners. Just naive. Amidst all the gang gang games, comes usual twists.

After watching Family Man 2, this movie shows light to Srilankan history and refugee crisis. Family Man 2 does make a mark of reference within us.

The film eventually talks about emigrants sculls out a messiaha for them.

There is nothing new in Karthik Subbaraj's Jagame Thandhiram that you would have not seen or felt before. Just watch fir plain entertainment in with Netflix.

The real problem with movies like these is that the climax comes in the second act itself and thereafter the film is kinda irrelevant with all the mellow drama with altering of hearts and changing of attitude. What was right first becomes wrong and the vice-versa.

Lazy attempts at few places. Also screenplay was not rocksolid. Apart from all this it's still not bad and quite enjoyable. Less songs help.

Aishwarya Lekshmi does good and Dhanush fans will gi crazy over this but it is almost 3 hours long so be prepared with "Parotta's" (you will know why) and curry and dive into both movie and parottas. Movie available on Netflix and Parottas on Swiggy/Zomato or just order iD Parrottas from Groceries delivery otherwise easily available at any store.

Saina (2021)
3/10
Bad
23 April 2021
It's unbelievable that "Saina" comes from someone who made Taare Zameen Par.

Saina is old hindi bipoicy formulated movie which right intentions but not so tight execution.

Unprofessional, unpromising, unsympathetic, uncharmismatic, unconditionally bad. Filled with non natural performances.

Saina is like that cherry which looks glossy but tastes artificial.

There are two Malik's in this movie Meghna Malik and Armaan Malik. But Meghna Malik as Usha Rani Nehwal does a wonderful job and has single handedly upped the acting game in the movie.

Armaan Malik's music is in stark contrast to the other Malik. No feel, no retention. Yet bearable unlike "Tony Kakkad". 😅 Subhrajyoti Barat who plays Saina's dad Dr Harvir Singh Nehwal also does a good job. (You might have seen him in Mirzapur on same Amazon Prime platform).

Manav Kaul's as charming as always he portrays Pullela Gopichand and Ankur Vikal looks fresh and interesting but again bad writing overpowers good performances.

Eshan Naqvi looks promising and cute but doesn't get much written for his role.

Manav Kaul's near perfect hindi with Nakko makes it funny and intentional relevancy lays flat.

Earlier, Shraddha Kapoor was signed to play Nehwal's role, and she even started filming in September 2018 after training, but later she opted out of the film due to health issues. Even Paresh Rawal was roped in to play Saina's father.

After seeing the visuals from YT I personally feel Shradha Kapoor looks more like Saina than Parineeti.

Dialoguebaazi itni thi nahi, writing could have been better. Thoda toh MSD se inspired hote.. That was such a delightful movie.

Disappointed because P. Kashyap has been shown only in hindsight that too just as a chocolaty cherry boy. Felt bad for him. Would have looked as his perspectives also. That's what a biopic has to do right explore different personalities in different perspectives.

This one is just a plain single tone biopic.

Available on Amazon Prime Video. Don't watch if you have something better to watch. Even old matches of Saina Nehwal. Carolina Marine, P. V Sindhu can be found on YouTube and enjoyed while having comfort dinner of Dal Rice or Chole Bhature/Puri at dinner time/table.

Wild Dog (2021)
3/10
Bad
23 April 2021
Wild Dog is anything but wild nor a dog which grabs attention fod it's cuteness and deserves respect for it's loyalty.

Those who have watched this movie will agree that this movie has absolutely absolutely nothing to offer, not in terms of story, logic, acting, SONGS, BGM, even the dialogues are the exact copy of every other movie you see.

Annapurna productions have to up their game, a movie by Arjun Kapoor called India's Most Wanted was based on the same story and even that was better than this one.

It's sleezy, lazily made with a one liner and is a no brainer.

First they wanted to release it on Netflix, they producers deferred then they released in cinemas on April, in 22 days they released back on Netflix that's Wild Dog for you.

Even in the remotest part of the world, people start speaking Telugu (full respect to language) but that's seems so unnatural, imagine a MP from Nepal speaking Telugu 🤣.

Just a time waste, better watch any other movie or series with 'Wild' name in it than this one.. For starters try "Wild West Country" with hara bhara kabab or Paneer Manchurian or Threaded Paneer or simple Pakodas fryed to crispy golden brown, gulp it down with Pepsi or Aam panna or lemonade.

Comic
21 April 2021
Beautiful, liked it.

2015 Indie comedy film directed by Amit Masurkar (Manipal dropout, later completed B. A history from Mumbai Uni).

He later went on to direct Newton which was sent to Oscars from India.

Distributed by PVR director's rare, when PVR used to go good stuff like producing and distributing good cinema unlike their overpricy Popcorns.

Released in Mami.

I rather saw it on TVF play as pay per view, TVF did a good job being a online partner for the movie. (You can find the movie on Amazon Prime outside India, TVFplay doesn't host this movie anymore.)

Two writers Dulal and Mainak (names will be struck for a long time) dream of shaking Bollywood with their script Sulemani Keeda... Rather end up shaking their own selves.. (no pun intended).

Naveen Kasturia and Mayank Tiwari form this bromantics essence, Aditi Vasudev spices things up.

Experimental, interesting, strong and weak at parts. Yet watchable and enjoyable.

Do watch it with some cheese rolls or just spicy rolls. Try with shezwan sauce and green chutney.

Nice and slow
20 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The story of a man named Prakashan who yearns to go to foreign countries, particularly Germany. He finds that his name is a bit old-fashioned so changes his name to P. R. Akash just to sound more modern. Prakashan aka PR Akash is a typical Malayali man, a nurse as he says he's done B.sc Nursing is looking forward to leading a luxurious life without too much effort. He vehemently opposes the idea of entering the nursing profession because of its lower pay and thankless nature. He shows a sexist view toward this career, believing that it is suited to women rather than men. He actively tries to go abroad by marrying a foreign citizen and thus acquiring a family visa, followed by dumping her and living his life. All this changes in the end with stereotypical lines like Kerala is God's own country and all.

The satirical comedy does the work throughout the movie. The film does give a feel of The Fault in Our Stars towards the end.

Njan Prakashan has a shaky first half, and a relatively more convincing second half. I went surfing something else on Netflix after few minutes but when I came back the movies takes a deeper and narrower turn just like Kerala's roads.

Tina unexpectedly dies during one of Prakashan's stories despite his efforts to revive her. This has a profound impact on him, with Prakashan transforming himself into a realistic and grounded human being, a sensitive nursing professional where he realizes that nursing is more than just a way of income, but rather, a way to help people in need. Does play a message to nurses and other Mallus who madly want to migrate to Gulf or any other place leaving thier own lands.

Devika Sanjay does a decent job and Fahadh Faasil does create real magic with subtlety.

Malyalam Cinema has relevance, is charismatic, and does touch the right chords unlike its south Indian counterparts.

At the box office, it grossed 52 crore worldwide in 40 days into release, becoming one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films of all time.

Available on Netflix watch with Banana chips and other Kerala snacks. (Just randomly :P)

The movie ends with a Malayalam song translating "Someone Sprinkled colours on soul today.."

Love Protest!!
20 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Writer-director Aaron Sorkin's The Trial of the Chicago 7 is a powerpacked film. The intensity with which his characters speak and deliver high voltage dialogues give a Bollywoodish feel. And while this might seem unnatural in life, in a courtroom, it makes perfect sense. This is why The Trial of the Chicago 7 is so damn powerful. The film is based on a real-life political drama in the 60s, in which prominent political radicals were accused of conspiring to cause the riots that had broken out at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Sorkin gives us an electrifying dramatization, which speaks directly to the world we live in. The culture wars, polarization, and oppressive establishment are still very much in place. This is thrilling moviemaking. You can see it on Netflix toh Telegram aur Torrents se refrain kare because the movie is idealistic at least let's start some small revolution to end piracy.

The story of 7 people on trial stemming from various charges surrounding the uprising at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois.

It follows the trial of the infamous Chicago Seven, a group of anti-Vietnam War protesters who were charged with the conspiracy to incite riots in Chicago after their peaceful protest turned violent following a clash with the police. The film stars Sacha Baron Cohen and unlike his fictional satirical characters this time he plays one of Chicago's 7. Sacha is a revolutionary in film and real life too. In June 2020, Baron Cohen crashed the right-wing "March for Our Rights 3" protest in Olympia, Washington, a counter-protest to the March for Our Lives demonstration as a result of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Baron Cohen sang a song telling listeners to attack liberals, CNN, the World Health Organization, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Bill Gates and "mask-wearers". The crowd, which initially sang along, realized they were being pranked when counter-protestors recognized Baron Cohen and began laughing. Baron Cohen's security stopped the organizers from taking him off stage and turning off the power, and Baron Cohen was forced to flee in a private ambulance from the now-violent crowd. In 2020 his Borat Subsequent Movie film was also a great watch. The film also stars Eddie Redmayne, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Daniel Flaherty, Noah Robbins, Carrol Lynch, Mark Rylance, Jeremy Strong, and Alex Sharp.

At one point in the movie, Abbie says "It's revolution time, we may have to hurt somebody's feelings"

" I have never been on trial for my thoughts"

It shows parts of Left Wing,Radicals, Revolutionaries,Early Political Parties, and harrasment by the courts and negligence of police.

Director Aaron Sorkin's historic legal drama has earned itself six nominations at the Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for Sacha Baron Cohen, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Original Song, and Best Film Editing.

This year in Oscar's best picture category out of 8 movies we have 2 movies based in Chicago, 2 based on Musicians, and 2 having Vietnam war references.

Best sound mixing and best sound editing category has been merged in Oscars 2021.

Ramsey Clark lived in Greenwich Village in New York City, where he died recently on April 9, 2021, at age 93. Huge Respects!

Most magical moment was when at the end of the trial, despite Judge Hoffman's instructions and objections, Hayden uses his closing remarks to name the 4,752 soldiers who were killed in the Vietnam War since the trial began. This act prompts many in the court to stand and cheer. It will certainly make you cry.

Oscars 2021 ka toh pata nahi but this one really wins hearts and minds while making a great attempt at what to respect.

The Do-Over (2016)
7/10
Fun as general.
20 April 2021
2 guys decide to fake their own deaths and start all over again.

Do-Over. Fun movie that's longer.

Has gags, daily life tour and a general fun watch movie for a Saturday night.

It's a throwback to classic Adam Sandler films and, while ridiculous, is still a fun ride. ... Just as predictably mind-numbing and tedious as any other comedy Sandler has attached his name to post-Funny People.

Adam Sandler, David Spade and Paula Patton portray in it. And all do a good job.

Decent action too.

Named 'Happy Madison Productions' after two of Sandler's films, Billy Madison (1995) and Happy Gilmore (1996).

The Do-Over is a de facto R-rated movie for Sandler, with the attendant bad language and sex jokes, but most of the faux-naughty stuff seems like an afterthought.

Have some cheese fritters and donuts and enjoy this movie on Netflix.

Ajeeb Daastaans (Hindi Anthology, 2021).

Meaty and Neatly done.

From Lust to Ghost Stories, Unpaused to Ludo. And now the Ajeeb Dastans.. Anthologies are back in trends just like the Don't Rush, Instagram Reels but unlike reels Anthologies aren't cringe infact loaded with taste which fills up your story/content appetite rather than gas filling.

Dastans has a bit of Abbas Mastans... Haha.. No really it does have amusing ends watch out.

The first two stories are twisty like every anthology, with our own wild tales or wild women tales. The following two stories give the anthology a golden glow obviously by the facials from writers and directors.

Shashank Khaitan, Raj Mehta, Neeraj Ghaywan and Kayoze Irani direct these potent stories of love, lust, thrill and shock flavoured with casteism, poverty, greed and monotony.

The Thumbs Up steal the thunder wali anthology is Neeraj Ghaywan's Geeli Pucchi all others were absolutely brilliant too but Geeli Pucchi or the Sloppy Kiss as they call it is a absolute kiss on the forehead of viewers. And you that a forehead kiss is a way way special than other places.

Bharti Mandal played by Konkona Sen Sharma is till dates amusing performance and unlike last seen her on Netflix as a simple, sushil and lustful bahu here she's a tough, machine operator with a B. Com and the only thing continuing from previous characters is the lustful role. Aditi Rao Hydri is also a soft and confused women but makes a story interesting.

This anthology is like a perfect pastry puff right out from the oven with layers and layers of fat and filling. Some layers and flavours unfold, some don't. Some might like a spicy puff or a Patty as they call it in North India, some might like a mayo puff, some jeera then some just plain puff.

All these 4 anthologies are puffs only. Just different ones.

To mention the little girl Inayat Verma with Nusrat Bharucha is a absolute stunner with her acting skills and cuteness.

Starring : Fatima Sana Shaikh - beautiful.

Jaideep Ahlawat - usual.

Armaan Ralhan - nice.

Nushrat Bharucha - totally breaking some ceilings.

Abhishek Banerjee - Usual.

Konkona Sen Sharma - Masterclass performance and looks.

Aditi Rao Hydari - Usual but beautiful and chulbuli.

Shefali Shah - Awesome as always.

Manav Kaul - Mindblown.. Soothing.

Tota Roy Chowdhury - Really good.

Dharmatic Entertainment by Karan Johar is the producer.

Huge shout-out to casting and costume department too.

Unlike the privileged ones or Bollywood circuits we had to watch this Anthology on our personal screens rather than a special premiere before the release amidst the pandemic. Quite cool no. 😉

This is the type of content many on OTT want to see and such Anthologies give freedom to writers and directors to be free and not drag Saas Bahu soaps also keep the length and budget short. Making it a win win situation for all. In the age of attention deficiency who has time for a nonsensical sequence may be love or fight. Oh wait may be both are same.

It has a run time of 2.22 considering that it should be released in 2022...nevertheless it's a great and compelling watch.

Available on Netflix. Jo Youtube ke sare content creators ko khareed ke unke sath unnatural collabs karta hai aur views Kamata hai.. 😜

Jathi Ratnalu (2021)
4/10
Not fully redeemable.
11 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Jathi Ratnalu, written and directed by Anudeep K. V., follows Srikanth (Naveen Polishetty), Ravi (Rahul Ramakrishna), and Shekhar (Priyadarshi) as they try to escape the confines of their small town and make it big in Hyderabad. But just when things start to look up, the political plot running parallel to them crosses their path and runs them over, thereby leaving them to fend for themselves and prove their innocence. The trio's chemistry is used to the maximum to elicit laughter throughout its heavy 145-minute long runtime. And despite having some pacing issues, it manages to be a rib-tickling viewing experience and also get its point about class divide across.

The whole notion that in order to enjoy Indian blockbuster-level comedies, people should keep their brains at home is a weird excuse to avoid facing any criticism. Because if you say that you didn't enjoy any of it or didn't laugh at any of its jokes, the makers can just say that you were using your brain too much. Whereas the fact is that the makers themselves forgot to use their brains while writing the movie. See, I am not saying that there is a sub-genre in comedy that is nonsensical in nature. I am saying that despite being nonsensical, it should be first and foremost entertaining to its very core. Imagine sitting in a theatre or on your couch and spending even 1 hour of your life watching a comedy and not laughing even once. Jathi Ratnalu does have some few gags which work but are just like "Goose pimples".

The only thing works is the genuineness of actors and characters. From Naveen Polishetty (watched him since AIB days), Priyadarshi, Rahul Ramakrishna, Faria Abdullah, Murli Sharma, Brahmanandam, Vennela Kishore, Brahmaji, V. K. Naresh, Tanikella Bharani, Giri Babu, Subhalekha Sudhakar, Mirchi Kiran, Divya Sripada, Mahesh Achanta, and more, along with a cameo by Vijay Deverakonda and Keerthy Suresh.

Music is almost unheard (no literally).

Intact writing and direction would have made a complete package.

This is a long movie and has some pacing issues. Get an adequate amount of food and drink of your choice. Don't have some friends over since the pandemic is still on. The watch party option is right there on Amazon Prime Video. Use that and just enjoy.

Hmm
10 April 2021
The Big Bull (2021, Hindi, Drama, Disney Hotstar) It's bollywoodisque and uninteresting tale entangled itself in creating a narrative for a hero, smudging the facts and takes it too lightly. Filmmakers should be storytellers first. Its very fortunate era that song video directors, dance directors have become filmmakers and some are successful too. But not everyone can be lucky. Despite of having a good cast Kookie Gulati delivers a way below average film.

Even though Abhishek Bachchan is a good actor and if given a proper director would do good, this one was off putting. I really dint want to compare it with Hansal Mehta's 'Scam 1992' but this one fails bad.

Screenplay is so off that in many scenes the voiceover is playing first and the action happens later.

Could have waited for a better film so that people don't waste their time.

Also Sohum Shah and Illena Dcruz and many other actors weren't properly justified. Nor the Gujarati elements in it.

The Big Bull isn't a big bull in cinema world. Available on Disney Hotstar.

Easy Skip.

Bored

Same old formulas, same old hero entry scenes which doesn't bring shiver to a non bhakth of star... Same old chair dragging scenes.

Nothing new, old wine in a new bottle kind of a movie where screenplay is completely messed and social issues are sensitized to get full commercial elements.

Not technically sound movie, you can see so many flaws and major ones are seeing the lighting in almost all scenes.

The star cast is good but not made much use of Prakash Raj, Achyuth Kumar,Dhananjay, Sai Kumar, Diganth, even Sadhu Kokila.

The heroine also is weightless in terms of role written for her.

Music and dancing is good but again same old repeat telecast.

Same old self and family praising dialogues with all due respect to Dr Rajkumar but overdoing it just kills the legacy of the legend.

Some glimpse of Master can be seen but this movie messes up the first half and second half is too damn straight.

Direction is OK but I wish he had given importance to script rather than over hyping fight scenes in almost all action sequences the villains fly. 🤣

I really wish to see more amazing work from Kannada cinema than a forgetting films like these. We have done great in past we can do. Otherwise the whole idea of commercial cinema will hijack our great artistic lives.

Can be easily skipped as the producers skipped theatres and released on OTT - Amazon Prime Video damn soon.. Within a week of its release.

P. S I really had to watch something nice to get over with it.

Joji (2021)

Good stuff.
8 April 2021
Jiji is a Malyalam movie with raw flavours and engulfs around greed, guilt and genuinely good cinema.

The director Dileesh Pothan, writer Syam Pushkaran and actor Fahadh Faasil make a subtle movie around few murders.

Who is there? One of the subjects of your kingdom.

Joji is Macbeth in a more contemporary setting of rubber plantation and canals of Kottayam in Kerala.

The principle of 'Chekov's Gun' that if a gun is introduced in the first act, it must go off in the third.

The movie has characters which are pivotal to the scenes from Poppy to Dr Felix and the priest. But my favorite character is Bincy, quite and depth of a ocean.

The film was made during the pandemic and characters wear masks in public spaces and seem natural as it gets.

End gets cramped and escape of guilt are main factorials but still it's a nice and relaxing watch...

Fans of Andhadun and other such will love it..

Available on Amazon Prime Video.

Slow and easy.
7 April 2021
Operation MBBS brought by Dice media and Unacademy on YouTube.

It's a beautifully scripted and directed show on Doctors and has great content.

Obviously season 1 was way way better.. Season 2 is slow ultra slow.. Too melodramatic.. Actors have done a good job... Sarah Hashmi... Ayush Mehra.. Anshul Chauhan... Legendary K C bhaiya...

Acha hai.. Free me hai.. Dekh lo...

Immense love and respect for doctors..

Not that bad..

Half baked, half-educated and not well thought and made.

Coming from the "Right" mind of Vivek Agnihotri, not all Right wings thoughts are right..haha. This movie is neither a masterpiece nor a total crap, at best it does get away being mediocre and the core idea of the movie is to replace mediocrity, and how the movie was being made kills it's own agenda.

The film is not well-conceived and lacks depth, also technically the film shots are vague and horrible.

Mixing of academia with Maoism. Loosely based on Nisha Susan of Pink Chaddi Campain.

Set up in Hyderabad at ISB here it's replaced as GSB how creative of Vivek :P Agnihotri has asserted of the film to be modeled on his own life though one of his co-producers has denied it.

What can you expect from a director who has films like "Junooniyat","Zid" etc..

Cast includes hypocrite Anupam Kher, decently done job by Arunoday Singh, Mahie Gill again has a minor role and wife of director Pallavi Joshi...

I wonder some Rightist actors portray the left so well maybe deep within they believe in some of its philosophy. :P

Urban Naxals: The Making of Buddha in a Traffic Jam is a book written by Vivek Agnihotri, about the making of his film Buddha in a Traffic Jam.

The Central Board of Film Certification passed the film without any cuts. Agnihotri claimed that certain objectionable contents including the likes of extreme language and extreme sex scenes were allowed to stay as the board members were sympathetic to the message of the film. He is a member of the board of India's Central Board of Film Certification. He is appointed as cultural representative of Indian Cinema at ICCR. On what grounds and merit you know it right... Pata hai na aap sap ko? Nahi pata hai...

The film did not perform well at the box office due to it's hollowness and propaganda. But still can be one time watch. It's not as bad as his other films.

Available on Youtube on Rajshree Productions Channel.

Tenet (2020)

Truly Tenet.
2 April 2021
Well, in a single line to put, it's a great and enjoyable film but not as intense and deep as Nolan's other work.

Even though I am a adherent fan of Christopher Nolan and his work but this one seems haphazardly made and also with lot of screenplay issues.

There are very few movies where if it's plot is complex, difficult to follow and understand because of it's too fast storytelling style but still we get glued in with a genuine interest and excitement without even bothering to look at if any flaws are there or not.

The film's plot revolves around reversing the entropy of things and people, resulting in time reversibility. Tenet makes reference to physics concepts including the second law of thermodynamics, Maxwell's demon, and Feynman and Wheeler's notion of a one-electron universe, but Christopher Nolan stated in the film's press notes: "we're not going to make any case for this being scientifically accurate".

Few scientific concepts which has a base of inspiration in T E N E T are :

Epistemology the branch of philosophy concerned with knowledge.

Entropy is a scientific concept, as well as a measurable physical property that is most commonly associated with a state of disorder, randomness, or uncertainty. The term and the concept are used in diverse fields, from classical thermodynamics, where it was first recognized, to the microscopic description of nature in statistical physics, and to the principles of information theory. It has found far-ranging applications in chemistry and physics, in biological systems and their relation to life, in cosmology, economics, sociology, weather science, climate change, and information systems including the transmission of information in telecommunication.

Objectivity in science is an attempt to uncover truths about the natural world by eliminating personal biases, emotions, and false beliefs. It is often linked to observation as part of the scientific method. It is thus intimately related to the aim of testability and reproducibility. To be considered objective, the results of measurement must be communicated from person to person, and then demonstrated for third parties, as an advance in a collective understanding of the world. Such demonstrable knowledge has ordinarily conferred demonstrable powers of prediction or technology.

T-symmetry or time reversal symmetry is the theoretical symmetry of physical laws under the transformation of time reversal.

Since the second law of thermodynamics states that entropy increases as time flows toward the future, in general, the macroscopic universe does not show symmetry under time reversal. In other words, time is said to be non-symmetric, or asymmetric, except for special equilibrium states when the second law of thermodynamics predicts the time symmetry to hold. However, quantum noninvasive measurements are predicted to violate time symmetry even in equilibrium, contrary to their classical counterparts, although this has not yet been experimentally confirmed.

Metaphysics the branch of philosophy that examines the fundamental nature of reality, including the relationship between mind and matter, between substance and attribute, and between potentiality and actuality.

Metaphysics studies questions related to what it is for something to exist and what types of existence there are. Metaphysics seeks to answer, in an abstract and fully general manner, the questions: 1. What is there?

2. What is it like?

Entropy predicts that certain processes are irreversible or impossible, aside from the requirement of not violating the conservation of energy, the latter being expressed in the first law of thermodynamics. Entropy is central to the second law of thermodynamics, which states that the entropy of isolated systems left to spontaneous evolution cannot decrease with time, as they always arrive at a state of thermodynamic equilibrium, where the entropy is highest.

The arrow of time, also called time's arrow, is the concept positing the "one-way direction" or "asymmetry" of time. It was developed in 1927 by the British astrophysicist Arthur Eddington, and is an unsolved general physics question.

CIA agent, the "Protagonist" as they call is played by John David Washington S/O Denzel Washington is impressive and the former footballer does great and riveting action sequences.

Robert Pattinson does a real nice job along with Elizabeth Debicki, Kenneth Branagh, Michael Caine. Dimple Kapadia seems unnatural to me but again Himesh Patel seemed graced.

Hamilton watches are advertised much and same feels for the BMW.

The protagonist finally does achieve his mission how and why of the questions has just one answer - Tenent.

Don't forget to r e a d the trivia as much truth uncover there.

Nolan's films are typically rooted in epistemological and metaphysical themes, exploring human morality, the construction of time, and the malleable nature of memory and personal identity. His work is permeated by mathematically inspired images and concepts, unconventional narrative structures, practical special effects, experimental soundscapes, large-format film photography, and materialistic perspectives. He has co-written several of his films with his brother Jonathan, and runs the production company Syncopy Inc. With his wife Emma Thomas.

The difference between shooting Following with a group of friends wearing our own clothes and my mum making sandwiches to spending $4 million of somebody else's money on Memento and having a crew of a hundred people is, to this day, by far the biggest leap I've ever made.

Nolan (in 2012) on the jump from his first film to his second.

If Nolan taught physics none would hate it.

Someone rightly pointed out that Nolan's resume is so strong that he need not find the need to mention Interstellar on posters. 😅 Spielberg, who later said in an interview with Variety, "knowing and respecting that Chris Nolanis one of the world's most imaginative filmmakers, my advice to him was to leave his imagination, as I did on Ryan, in second position to the research he was doing to authentically acquit this historical drama."

Nolan uses less of CGI and green screens infact next to none. That also adds value to the movie as most of high budget movies are just computer generated graphics.

There's a possibility of sequel too. But no one knows apart from Nolan himself, maybe he should use his time inversal theory and find out.. Haha..

Streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Pleasant warning, Don't watch it with popcorn as you will be struck to the movie and popcorn will be left alone.

Simple.
1 April 2021
Sunnipenta Madhav (Sagar RK Naidu), an NRI from Australia who is in search of his bride, lands in Hyderabad to attend three Pellichoopulu in a single day. Thupakula Satyabhama (Drishya Raghunath), daughter of a wedding consultant, accompanies Madhav to his Pellichoopulu. How Madhav ignores his three prospective brides and how he and Satyabhama fall in love with each other after several silly fights and misunderstandings forms the rest of the story.

Wafer thin off course and definitely lethargic start but slowly goes smooth. Still the movie could have been shortened and edited better. Obviously the screenplay also could have been worked upon and made much much better.

Sagar is just decent. He doesn't look charming and his performance in emotional scenes is bad. Newcomer Drishya Raghunath is a good find. She does both light-hearted and emotional scenes with equal ease. Rest of the actors justify their roles with decent performances.

A major part of the story happens in a single day and that too inside a car, which is rare in Telugu films. There is also a good dose of situational comedy. The makers should be appreciated for incorporating only a few situational songs, as this doesn't cause major hindrances to the story flow.

There's a lengthy comedy episode shot inside a car in the first half. While the entire episode is partly entertaining in itself, it doesn't add much to the story except for leaving a few flashback connectors. The proceedings in the first half, especially a few comedy scenes, sail at a dull pace.

Starring : Sagar RK Naidu, Drishya Raghunath, Rahul Ramakrishna, Benarjee, Hema, Rajshree Nair, Aditi Myakal, Ram and others

Director : Padmasri

Producer : Dil Raju, Shirish

Music Director : Sunil Kashyap

Cinematography : Srikanth Naroj

Editor Madhu Chintala

TV star Sagar RK Naidu of Mogalirekulu fame is once again trying his luck as a hero after 3 years. With Dil Raju producing the movie, there has been a decent buzz for Shaadi Mubarak and the recently released fun trailer further boosted this positive buzz. Let's see how the film fares.

Story

Sunnipenta Madhav (Sagar RK Naidu), an NRI from Australia who is in search of his bride, lands in Hyderabad to attend three Pellichoopulu in a single day. Thupakula Satyabhama (Drishya Raghunath), daughter of a wedding consultant, accompanies Madhav to his Pellichoopulu. How Madhav ignores his three prospective brides and how he and Satyabhama fall in love with each other after several silly fights and misunderstandings forms the rest of the story.

Plus Points Sagar is quite good in his role. He looks charming and his performance in emotional scenes is decent.

Minus Points

The major issue in Shaadi Mubarak is the leading lady Satyabhama's characterization. She is introduced as a happy-go-lucky young girl who is in no hurry to get married. After her journey with Madhav starts off with silly fights and misunderstandings, she falls so deeply for him and that too without a strong reason. And even if there is one, it's cliched and outdated.

There's a lengthy comedy episode shot inside a car in the first half. While the entire episode is partly entertaining in itself, it doesn't add much to the story except for leaving a few flashback connectors. The proceedings in the first half, especially a few comedy scenes, sail at a dull pace.

Technical Aspects

Debutant writer-director Padmasri does an okay job with this film that is loosely inspired by the 2016 Malayalam rom-com, Happy Wedding. His writing and direction start off on an unimpressive note initially, but get better as the film progresses.

Music is decent, although not a single song stays with us once we come out of theaters. And like we mentioned above, the songs are situational and don't act like speed-brakers. Cinematography by Srikanth Naroj is pleasant and colorful. Editor Madhu Chintala should have trimmed down the length of the not so entertaining comedy scenes in the first half. Production values are good enough for this small budgeted film.

Verdict On the whole, Shaadi Mubarak is a partly entertaining romantic comedy. There's enough comedy for entertainment seekers and the chemistry between the lead actors is quite good. Barring the sluggish pace in the first half and a few logical hiccups in the second half, you may check out Shaadi Mubarak this weekend. But do keep your expectations low to enjoy it better.

Fyre (2019)

Bad-ass billy
28 March 2021
Fyre Festival was the most talked about festival experience of 2017, but not because anyone had any fun there.

Advertised by famous faces including Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid and Hailey Baldwin, it was billed as a glamorous party on a deserted island.

Tickets cost up to $100,000 (£75,000) and guests who booked were promised luxury accommodation and "the best in food, art, music and adventure" in the Bahamas.

Instead they turned up to mattresses on rain-soaked floors, meals of cheese slices on bread and their luggage thrown into a unlit car park.

Feel sorry for the workers, that lady who fed people and almost had to let go of her rainy day savings around $50,000. Also do feel hurt for many workers and contractors and professionals associated from Andy King (ah the dick story is shocking) to many others.

It's clear that people enjoy this schadenfreude genre.

Clearly the fake news and false information is killing it everywhere. Be more careful next time.

27 March 2021
The documentary film, produced by the same team as 2014's Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret, reveals the hugely damaging impact of commercial fishing.

Directed and narrated by British filmmaker Ali Tabrizi, the Netflix film takes us on a whistlestop tour of our oceans, shining a light on everything from how important sharks and dolphins are to our ecosystems, to the hugely damaging effects that commercial fishing has on our planet (considering that up to 85 per cent of the oxygen we breathe comes from our seas).

It's a eye opener, shocker and definitely one of the best documentaries of 2021.

It exposes the corruption, pollution and emotion in the global fishing industry.

It does have good facts like - Algae oil is a plant-based source of EPA and DHA, two omega-3 fats that are essential for your health.

It provides the same benefits as fish oil but is a better choice if you don't eat fish, follow a plant-based diet, or can't tolerate the taste or aftereffects of fish oil.

Taking algae oil may reduce your risk of heart disease, fight inflammation, and support brain and eye health.

Reducing our fish consumption is the only way forward. And choosing not to harm any animals would be great for our survival as well.

A great and gripping watch.

Seaspiracy is streaming on Netflix now.

Nice.
23 March 2021
A tale of an illegal Restaurant worker who lands in LA to study filmmaking and then lands up being just a little fellow with big ambitions and even bigger problems.

With great subtlety they have shown Jama Masjid, Delhi and my goodness such realistic frames of Jama Masjid I have never seen.

It takes a courageous man to follow a dream and a wise man knows when to walk away from it.

Magical sombre music integration makes the movie more enjoyable.

Adil Hussain, Neelima Azim, Suraj Sharma Sweta Tripathi and all others do a good job. But Iqbal Theba steals the show. Jay Ali does good too.

Directed by Danish Renzu.

Hope deferred can make a man sick, it can even kill.

The past, future and the vicious cycle. Every face even though looking same has a different story.

Ghar Kab jaoge Babaji... Hits hard. A worthy watch. Slightly touching, slightly grounded and absorbed in reality. Available on Amazon Prime Video.
