Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Not Science Fiction at all
This movie is not about a SF topic, don't be fooled by the multiverse topic. It is nothing but a movie about some mother - daughter trouble, which resulted in some psychological breakdown of the mother, imagining some strange story about her daughter being the biggest villain in any universe.
Lots of fast paced camera and visual effects shots.
There are funny and hilarious parts, there are just silly, illogical and even awful parts. And certainly there is a lesbian couple... No movie is possible without any gender message these days. There are also some strange, ugly sex scenes, that are completely unrelated to the story and are absolutely superfluous. I did not understand what they were meant for.
A must see? No, not at all.
The Snoopy Show (2021)
Perfect
Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the Peanuts are back in town. And they are as funny and lovable as ever. Full of references to the classic stories, the series is what longtime fans have waited for. Obviously written by authors that respect the heritage.
Is it what children today like watching - I'm not sure. It's not as chaotic, fast, hectic as many todays children programs. But - isn't that what makes the Peanuts so special?
It's also not educational - just heartwarming. Another plus.
Star Trek: Picard: Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 2 (2020)
Utter Nonsense
The story is silly fantasy with some wizardry. Completely illogical, plot twists at the writer's convenience and a hilarious ending that invalidates itself in just a few minutes.
100 questions about plot holes are apparent. If less violence would be shown I'd say this is a kindergarden level series.
Star Trek: Picard: Broken Pieces (2020)
How about some Physics???
Someone dragged sevens stars together and put a planet in the center. What? Stars circling a planet?
Hilarious.
In combination with the sword fights and starship eating space flowers this feels more like Star Wars fantasy than Star Trek Science Fiction.
Star Trek: Picard: Stardust City Rag (2020)
Disgusting Violence
This is not Star Trek, these are no Federation characters. This is just another crappy SF series without anything but violence and artificial, blown up feelings, mixed in when currently no one is being killed.
While hardly anything has happened in episode 2 to 4, at least some violence for a change? No thanks.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 1: Stranger in a Strange Land (2021)
What a disappointment
Was this written for 3 year olds?
Were all props, music and designs just taken form The Mandalorian?
Was the script rescued out of the paper bin?
Usually a pilot episode should present the characters AND create interest in future episodes by delivering an interesting story, some fun or ... anything.
It failed miserably. I personally will not waste another second of my life watching such uninspired nothingness.
Better watch some 1960ies western or stop&go monster movies. Then you will at least watch the original version.
Kommissar Dupin: Bretonisches Vermächtnis (2020)
Not a lot in common with the book
Once again, the content of the movie differs a lot from the book. The reason for the murders is changed, the relations of the characters are completely different. The plot is simplified a lot. And on the other hand many scenes are added, that are not present in the book.
Destination Moon (1950)
They even may have been more realistic than we thought during the last 50 years
Overall this movie is surprisingly realistic. Which is a big feat, given the fact there was no space travel at all at the time of its creation. This is mentioned in many other reviews here, so I do not go into detail anymore.
On big difference to the real Apollo landing is that Apollo had a small lander, while in the movie they land with the whole ship. Buuut - that's what SpaceX is planning for the future. So the movie may even have been 80 years ahead of its time! Isn't that terrific?
Kommissar Dupin: Bretonische Flut (2017)
Hard to bear, if one has read the book
Once again the script of the movie has hardly anything in common with the book. Important characters missing, other characters added, relationships between characters completely, utterly different, the inspector's love affair de-romatisized, instead of using the clairefontaine notebook inspector Dupin uses the wall in his private appartment to visualize the evidence of the criminal case (??). In one sentence: the whole plot is changed fundamentally - not to the better.
And finally - only the slightest glimpse of Brittanys beauty and wilderness of the sea is portrayed in the movie.
20 minutes to the end I almost would have given up watching that desaster... finishing that review well, was the only reason to continue.
Rentnercops: Jeder Tag zählt! (2015)
Funny, intelligent crime series with style
Well written script, tone setting usage of music at the start of each episode, funny, sometimes strange plots, great acting and interaction between the very different characters. The relation between young and old resp. male and female characters is sometimes hilarious. Definitely more ideas and style than average german crime series.
Kommissar Dupin: Bretonische Geheimnisse (2019)
Better read the book
The content of this movie has hardly anything in common with the great novel by J. J. Bannalec and it is utterly incorrect concerning the locations in France. There is no suspense at all. Even the few action scenes in the book were left out in the movie. Which makes no sense at all. And they managed to ruin the running gag of the strange note book the inspector is using in the book. Half of the roles are missing in comparison to the book, like the mystic story tellers and even the second assistant (Riwal) of the inspector.
The Orville: The Road Not Taken (2019)
The Orville meets ...
Star Wars ... Luke and Han would be proud of Gordon steering the ships through asteroid fields and ice canyons.
Seaquest ... Captain Bridger would surely take the Orville as his new submarine.
Battestar Galactica ... Commander Adama would try to find a new Earth for the remaining Humans, in case the Orville crew would not be able to correct the time line.
Best of more than both worlds in this episode. Looking forward to many more great seasons of this outstanding SF series.
The Orville: Sanctuary (2019)
Good ol Star Trek TNG times
With some special topping of great musical appearances. The Orville has become THE SF show when it is about fun + drama + SF + great effects and thoughts about human nature. No other show offers that combination at the moment. In times where some country wants to leave a union that guarateed peace for 50 years, and other countries talk about them being first in the world... this episode is a good answer.
The Orville: A Happy Refrain (2019)
SF at its best
This episode is just great, probably the best of The Orville. It even surpasses the best episodes of the Data character in ST-TNG. The reasoning at the end why a robot can fall in love was ingenious. A very enjoyable, heartwarming and funny story. And such a great acting of the whole cast.
Star Trek: Discovery: Brother (2019)
What? Terrible.
Sarek: 'Spock, get friends with Michael'.
Spock has a sister?
A vulcan father tells his son to 'get friends' with someone?
This is not Star Trek. It is rather a mixture of Star Wars and Flash Gordon. Full of logic holes, with no respect for 60 years of Star Trek.
The Orville: Nothing Left on Earth Excepting Fishes (2019)
Great Episode - TNG is back on screen
The story told in this episode is 100% Star Trek at its best - surprise, suspense, some action and true humanity.
The music at the end of this episode created an almost mysterious moment. Reminds me about the classic Blue Danube used in 2001 A space Odyssey, which also completely changed the mood of the scene.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017)
Childish
Lots of effort & money, basically some great actors, lots of rather good special effects, but childish story line and unrealistic in any aspect - and not very funny nor suspenseful, too.
Why does Hollywood spend millions of dollars for actors and SFX, but not a single dollar for the script in so many cases?
The Orville: About a Girl (2017)
A mirror to our society
The topic of this plot can be seen as a mirror to our current society, where 'the people' expect certain behaviour in spite of the wellbeing of the kids. Or where parents do fundamental decisions for their kids, as if they would 'own' their kids. Or where men decide about what women have to do or have to be.
A very sad and serious episode indeed. Great SF.
Star Trek: Discovery: What's Past Is Prologue (2018)
Star Trek or Marvel Universe?
Now, that many of the initial characters are killed already in season one, and when science, time and space continuity are nothing to worry about anymore, the only thing you can be sure about in this series is violence, violence and more senseless violence and gruelties. Logic? - overrated! Character development? - overrated! (Better kill all your central characters for a fresh start in season two).
Luckily the 'real' Startrek continues with 'The Orville': The Startrek of wonder and humanism and with some comments about human civilization, culture and politics.
