a shock to the system.
20 November 2004
this film was by far one of the most dramatic movies i have ever seen. i thought it depicted the dark world of drug addiction beautifully, and because of it, i will never touch drugs in my life. the acting was excellent, and the scores in the movie were perfect. it's too bad that some of it was in LOTR.... i have to say, this move was probably one of the most underrated and definitely deserves much more credit than it already has. i also have to add that the ending probably the most horrific ending i have ever seen. ever. i mean that in a complimentary way. got me thinking....how about you?

Wimbledon (2004)
interestingly, i enjoyed it
16 November 2004
for the record, i never tend to go see movies of this nature, but since Kirsten Dunst is in it, i had to check it out. the main reason why i enjoyed it was pretty much Kirsten. her acting is quite alluring to me. paul bettany did a good too though.

the movie itself though....lacked substance. i can't be too harsh on this film though because i know that it wasn't meant to be an "Oscar Winner". in fact, Paul Bettany said that this was simply a Friday night with friends romantic movie. looking at the movie that way, it was good. but i also happen to be a moderate tennis fan, and the action was pretty cool.

there was very good chemistry between Paul and Kirsten, and the whole romantic aspect was mysterious regarding how the relationship formed so quickly. truth is though, it ain't that funny. sure maybe there's a part in there that makes you half smile, but that's about it. In terms of tennis playing, there were some damn cool tennis sequences. some of the best i would say. but that doesn't really make up for the somewhat empty story-line. all in all, this film ain't too bad. the people that watch it oughta be tennis fans or Kirsten fans (!). other than that, everyone else is just going to be watching another shallow romance flick.

Man on Fire (2004)
a surprisingly moving drama
16 November 2004
now, i've been seeing the commercials and previews regarding this movie, and to tell the truth, i didn't see what would be so interesting about it. of course i'd see it sooner or later, seeing as though I'm a big Denzel fan and all.....but it wasn't exactly a priority to go rent it. well, i finally did. and i was completely blown away. first off, the acting was very well done, and i was quite impressed with young Dakota Fanning's performance. i really didn't have a clear idea what this movie was about when i rented it, and I'm glad i didn't. it made the movie all the more enjoyable to watch. therefore, i will not explain what it is about. I'm just suggesting that this movie should be rented by everyone. one very crucial thing that made the movie all the more moving was the music. the music really gave the movie the atmosphere that it needed. i am certainly getting the soundtrack! when the credits are rolling, i assure everyone that will stare blankly at the screen and try to soak in everything that's happened. the ending's pretty heavy......

one of the most amazing films to date
13 November 2004
i've seen this movie about three years ago and it remained one of my favorites since, but i thought i'd comment now. this movie was not only amazing because of his acting skills, but the overall cast was perfect! surely anyone who comes across this comment already knows the incredible acting talent of Edward Norton. come on. Fight Club?... Edward Furlong did a fantastic job in this film as well! i wasn't really familiar with him before watching the movie but after seeing it i had to check out other stuff he was in. which are all pretty good by the way. to summarize quite quickly, Derek Vinyard(Edward Norton) is a respected neo-nazi who kills 2 black guys caught trying to break into his car because of a basketball dispute earlier that day. after killing them, he's sentenced to 3 years in prison, and begins to learn the horrible hypocrisy of everything he believed in. while this is going on, his brother Danny Vinyard(Edward Furlong) is taken under Derek's organization's wing. Derek's partner in crime Cameron Alexander influences Danny's beliefs. after three years, Derek is released, and finds that his brother's future is not too far from Derek's past. Derek then tries to get his brother out of that whole mess and show him the true way to think. the rest, i'll leave for you to watch. hmmm not quite as short as i intended. but back to the commenting part. this movie is absolutely brilliant, and shows the horror in racial discrimination as well as the reasons for people to think this way in the first place. watch it. you will be thinking of the ending for a week.

a very impressive chick flick
8 November 2004
I'm not one for watching chick flicks, but i happen to be a huge fan of Kirsten Dunst, so i had to check it out. i expected a cliché movie about a troublesome teen and a football ace kid. but the depth behind Carlos Nunez (Jay Herendez) and Nicole Oakley (Kirsten Dunst) was much deeper than i thought there would be. The only thing I'm going to say about this film is that the chemistry of the actors is very enjoyable and uinque, and that the story is actually gripping. not in an action packed way but you'll all see for yourself. usually i write about what the story is about, but this time i trust that you all will just see it based on the comments taht i have included, and keep an open mind about it.

a brilliant and haunting story of love life and death
4 November 2004
the virgin suicides is one of the most underrated films i have come across. surely the genius of Sofia Coppola would not have gone too overlooked, but I'm afraid it deserves much more credit than it already has. this beautiful and mysterious tragedy focuses on the Lisbon sisters, who are severely sheltered by their overprotective mother(their father was a nice but odd man). this story is told by the neighborhood boys who greatly admire the sisters, and are fascinated by the mystery of their beauty. not to mention their dark ends. Lux Lisbon was sort of the icon of the sisters. mischievous, rebellious, and seductive, she was by far the most mysterious and beautiful. Kirsten Dunst played Lux Lisbon wonderfully! this film shows the talent that Kirsten possesses. i believe her to be one of the best actresses of her time despite my admiration of her. I'm an avid Kirsten fan. but even if you aren't, I'm sure you will be after seeing The Virgin Suicides. all in all this depressing movie is bound to get the credit it deserves, even if it takes a while. i will say though, I'm a stable dude and still i recommend to all that this movie be watched alone. it's almost impossible for anyone to not cry after that movie. whoever doesn't is pure evil.
