God's Not Dead (2014)
Very weak argument, Could have done much better
The intent, according to the trailers, was to tell a story of just how difficult college life is for Christians because they are on the offensive constantly due to personal attacks by academia. I don't find that this movie brought that case foreword as masterfully as I had anticipated it would. On the other hand I am studied in biblical text and philosopha Doctrine, so it could be the case that I had expectations greater than the scope of this specific work. Some good subject mater is brought to light however and for that reason, I gave it a 7. I would encourage people to watch it, and consider it along with Ben Steins work named "Expelled". The two together, give more compelling consideration, especially for college level students.
Noah (2014)
The only biblical connection is the name
First you must remember that this is a Hollywood movie, its entertainment, its not a documentary as a matter of fact it has almost nothing to do with what is written in the actual texts of the bible . About the only facts related to biblical text are the use of the name Noah, and his association with a very large ship with lots of animals on board which survive a flood. Other than that, Hollywood takes their Stoic philosophia, based poetic license, to define the events of biblical text in their terms.
For those looking for Hollywood action this movie has that in spades, for people looking to acquire an understanding of biblical text, this move has nothing in common except the very basics I explained earlier, there is a Man named Noah, There is a boat (ship) and there are animals and there is a flood.
I gave it a 2 because as a biblical student, who is well aware of the written account of Noah, and I have heard both the actor that plays Noah, and the movie producers attempt to indicate its biblically accurate, which is most certainly not true. Noah is not a documentary, its simply an action flick which borrows with great imaginative interpretation, some of the major events and Characters of the biblical account.
Monumental: In Search of America's National Treasure (2012)
Excellent film, suggest every America watch it and learn their History
This is one of the most enlightening movies about the American pilgrims, that has ever been filmed. There are discoveries in this movie which will assist Americans with understanding who they are and what their country is founded upon. The film addresses the hardships Americas forefathers endured in order to make it to America. No other documentary about America has ever delved into this much detail concerning its forefathers and their historical past. Those of you who want to know the foundations of America could not pick a better movie to watch and a better foundation for your further research, than this film "Monumental". Every school child in America should be introduced to this film. This film takes you on an exciting journey, and opens your eyes to the history of America's forefathers, what they experienced, what they had to contend with, and how they finally endured the hardships and made it successfully to the shores of what is now Massachusetts. It winds through many countries as well as some states within America, covering some specific history and documentation and finally takes you back to Massachusetts and introduces you to one of the most historical Monuments in America, and one to which most Americans are unaware.
The Bible (2013)
Worst and most biblical inaccurate account ever filmed
As a bible student for over 10 years, I was hoping that the film industry had finally gotten this one right, however in less that 10 minutes and after several grueling hours afterword, I realized this was the worst account ever filmed.
There is almost no actual biblical content provided in the film save a few splotches sprinkled here and there. This is not a review to simply indicate this is a completely non-biblical based work. I will explain in detail why I make this founded claim.
- Lets start with Adam, who is not indicated as "the man to till the soil" who was formed on the 8th day (as it is written) - There is no binding account of Adam to Noah (who was chosen because he was perfect in his generations to Adam), to Abram (later re-named Abraham by our Father) to Isaac (chosen over all Abraham other sons), to Jacob (later renamed Israel by or Father), to the tribes (sons) of Israel.
- There is no mention of Israel going into Egypt only 70 souls and coming forth out of Egypt some 430 years later over 2 million (the promise to Abraham "as the stars of heaven in number")
- There is no mention of Joseph being the right hand man to Pharaoh himself and that Joseph saved all of Egypt during a famine. - There is no mention of the hard bondage Israel was forced to serve under the later Pharaoh's and the atrocities which occurred against the people of Israel while in bondage and the fact that these atrocities were the reason behind punishing Egypt.
- The events related to Christ were haphazard and completely inaccurate. There was no mention that he served the vow of the Nazarite (reason for beard and long hair) or that his Mother was full blooded Levi.... so on and so forth. He was presented as from a Marxist point of view, as simply a Marxist rebel out to change. When actual text indicated something completely different "I come for the Lost Sheep of the House of Israel"
- The appearance of Satan, missed the mark entirely, as it is documented in the 13th chapter of the book of Revelation that he looks just like Christ (the lamb slain). The account in the wilderness, with Christ and Satan has no bearing in biblical text. It was never brought that in Christs weak state (40 days without food and water), he still easily defeated Satan.
These are basic factual accounts which are all well documented in biblical text. This film included where it might have brushed over the topic, in the majority of cases, it was not based upon biblical fact. If you are looking yourself or you are looking as parents for a reference film for your children, I would reconsider. From my several years of biblical study, I can not recommend this film to anyone due to is factual inaccuracy and complete distance from anything remotely connected to biblical accounts, historically.
