Survivors (2008)
Better than I originally thought
I've given this a high score because, well, I really like it. It's not perfect but it's good fun, tense at times and, though not entirely believable, realistic enough. Those who question individual events and motives need to get out into the real world. I've come across enough bigoted, stupid, downright evil people to know the stereotypes are often too close for comfort. Just see it for what it is, escapism. Sit back and enjoy.
Apparently I need to pad this comment out more, fair enough. It always seems that the greatest complaints for any remake are from fans of the original. So.. If you've seen the original and liked it, don't bother. If you haven't, give this one a go.
Children of Men (2006)
Sorry, I don't get what all the fuss is about.
I must have missed something but I'm buggered if I can figure out what. I think Alfonso Cuaron is inimitable, the best of his kind. Clive Owen is the most underrated actor of today. On top of that you have Pam Ferris, Michael Caine and Julianne Moore. Great Cinematic shots, a good story et al. But... It just didn't do it for me. I don't know why. I preferred 28 Days Later. It may be because it seemed like some sci-fi drama that was filmed in the 70s or because the plot was so inevitable:- I wasn't at all surprised at the end or of any of the incidents leading up to it. I didn't feel for any of the characters during the film. Maybe I have just become jaded with age. God, I hope not.
The Police: Synchronicity Concert (1984)
One of many.
I agree with the sentiment that this is an outstanding concert by an outstanding band but it is one of, thankfully, many provided by bands of this era and I'm talking across genres here; bands like Genesis, Rush, U2, AC/DC and so many others who have fallen out of favour and are now being rediscovered as classic performers. This footage shows it's age: 4:3 format, 80's editing, cheesy backing singers (sorry girls) but there's no hiding the performance, the audience reaction and the fact that it was the first of its kind. If you're of that era then relive the hight of The Police's popularity. If it's before your time then take a look at where your idols got their inspiration from.
Treasure Planet (2002)
Disney as it should be
I'm giving this 10, as its present rating is 6.5 and that's way too low.If you're reading this to decide whether to watch it or not, just watch it, I promise you won't be disappointed. I saw this in the cinema and it made for a very uplifting experience. After being swamped with films with big visuals but no characters or plot this was a breath of fresh air. These are Disney characters as they used to be, with plenty of personality but the visuals are bang up to date with a good mix of hand drawn and CGI. I read a post on the IMDb boards saying how it suffered from a management battle within Disney but the poster opined that Walt would have liked it and I have to agree
