wonderful, honest sympathetic documentary
4 November 2016
When this film premiered in Rotterdam ( since the maker lived in Rotterdam) I was there at that time, together with a friend who happened to be a singer/female impersonator. In this film several older transvestite -singers work together with other old artists in the Bodega Bohemia in Barcelona. They do so already 30 years and became a close family. Until one day the owner suddenly died and his wife can't keep the place any longer. Also because the city of Barcelona wants to tear the bodega down for a new building. The artists /inhabitants of the place are in shock .The film tells the story of the artists there ,working so close together , all are old and tired .They want one more last show, one more performance in the bodega Bohemia, before it shuts down. But what after that? This is a documentary about deep feelings, colorful people and a MUST SEE .

Where was Miss Kitt ?
5 September 2006
I've seen this movie . Not because I like gospel so much , ( the contrary) besides Mahalia Jackson. I watched this movie because Eartha Kitt would be in it , but WHERE was she ? Only that tiny little bit she had to play. Too short almost to be noticed and too DULL for herself to be able to let see what acting she CAN do. I wasn't upset because of a certain use of language. The film is NOT about "being Christian" , the film is a story with singing gospels. It's a dull movie ( sorry for you, Eartha , you tried your best ). This movie is just not inspirational and will be okay to rent or to see on TV , IF it makes it to that item....

I saw this movie years ago and thought it was a refreshing movie. First of all it got a gay man in it, who doesn't get aids for one time. Although the film uses quite some stereotypic situations used a lot for gays in movies, the film stays respectful towards gay people . Gay myself I could really enjoy this movie about two cops, one straight and one gay. The gay one ( Hurt)has an administration function at the police post and is not at all thrilled to be picked to work together on a gay murder case .Especially not with the other cop ( O'Neal),who on his turn is certainly not thrilled at all to be forced to work with a GAY man. They need to infiltrate into the gay-society and live as a gay couple.Towards the end of the film, both cops are getting to know each other better and gain respect from the other. Eventually they solve the murder case too....Although the film looks obviously dated ,it still is very enjoyable and funny .Even your children could watch it and learn something about prejustice too....

halálos tavasz
29 August 2005
First of all: I'm not Hungarian and I don't understand Hungarian language at all! Still I 've bought this film in Budapest, during my vacation there, July 2005, because I found the story fascinating and the actress Katalin Karády just WONDERFUL !!! I did see this movie first at the Budapest Open Air film-festival and was lucky to find this film on DVD in a small shop there. Well, if someone who does not understand Hungarian language at all finds this film well enough to even BUY the DVD, this should be a good recommendation ,right.Since the actress Katalin Karady is very famous in Hungary ( she went to USA after world war II and died there in the 1990s)I was disappointed not to find much more by her in Budapest.I found very little on her but besides the DVD I found some CDs with Hungarian songs, featured in her films too.So, this was a recommendation for Halálos Tavasz from a Dutch admirer of Karady !

almost ultimate biographical docu about Eartha kitt
18 November 2004
Eartha Kitt, portrait by herself indeed. We see Eartha with daughter Kit shapiro , we see her putting on her make-up to sing at the inoguration of president -to-be Ronald reagan. We see her visiting her birthplace and little shack where she was born as well as performing on a benefit-concert for children. We see her teaching poor black children dancing lessons. And in between that she's singing songs. I was never able to buy the official video, but I taped it from German TV. I don't think this documentary has been broadcast in many countries, as I know many Eartha Kitt-fans,like myself who never saw this film and really would like to get a DVD of it.As far as I know it's never been released on DVD !If so, please let me know ! Through the years my Kitt-video collection has been grown large. But this film All By Myself always has been special to me. As Eartha shows herself like she is in private too, and was not afraid to show herself without the heavy make-up she uses for shows, films and theatre performances.I've met Eartha several times and know from her that she wanted to make this docu because, as she put it - people had very weird ideas about what she was like. Of course we're now, in 2004, already 22 years past the release of this movie and also Eartha grew larger and luckily for us is still with us to perform for us, even after her car-accident. Still, if you get any chance to see this documentary don't hesitate to see it: you won't be sorry.
