Grace of Monaco (2014)
Nicole Kidman always delivers
The plot is thin but saved mostly by Kidman's acting, the scenes with her and Tucker were excellently played out, beautiful cinematography and the opulent setting. A shame, given the story line could have been better spinned since it's a fiction.
Still worth a watch.
Nomadland (2020)
Deep like a good bottle of wine
The film appears and is shot rather plainly, but that's where and how it got you hooked. I watched it twice and both times it shook me.
It may be a film about life as a nomad but is NOT a documentary afterall. So any failure to depict the lives of other or all types of nomads shouldn't be expected here. Rather, it is a film about life, about losing someone, about unable to let go, about the forlorn feelings, all very complex and hard to define as one.
McDormand certainly deserves the win, she acted as if she IS Fern the character that makes one lapse info thinking it is like a documentary. The other characters and their respective lives brought depth and dimensions as well.
Minari (2020)
Rather fine storytelling but lacking in drama
I went in expecting some drama or thought provoking scenes but there really isn't any.
It is really just plain and.. slow. Story line is draggy and don't seem to go anywhere. When it finally did, it ended rather abruptly, I hope there isn't going to be a part 2 because this ain't the type of movies for that.
What's good however is the cinematography.
The little boy turned out to be the entire movie's scene stealer ironically.
The Favourite (2018)
bravo!
One of the best movies in the last ten years with superb acting, original script, haunting soundtrack that leaves you thinking even after the movie ended.
