Black Mountain Side (2014)
Such a great disappointment
It is actually with a heavy heart I write this because this move both could and should have been so much more. The ambiance and the general feel of this movie is superb and it starts of really amazing. About half way through I started to get anxious cause the story and sort of the all over quality started to drop.
And well from here it's just downhill. I really wanted to like this movie so it is with a heavy heart I have to say it's a huge hit and miss.
Still recommend it though.
Frazier Park Recut (2017)
Very nice!
This is a very good so called found footage film (yeah film)! Why you ask?
Most importantly the actors are real actors and this makes this movie really stand out in the genre. It also has a believable story and brings us a little bit behind the scenes of making this type of movie. Another thing that I really liked is that the whole time when the cameras is rolling there's a actual real reason for it.
If you're in to found footage this is a must see! Lastly don't forget that it's also horror comedy and should be viewed as such.
Cry (2018)
Watchable
Starting out watching this movie I can't really say that it showed promise, more like this seems ok and is kinda entertaining and that's why I didn't turn it off. I'm mentioning this because 45 minutes in I had to fight the urge to do so.
The lead actor is by far the worst which gave me the feeling that he also was the director and that turned out to be true otherwise why is he even on camera?
Sadly it is his poor performance that brings the grade down. As he slowly gets more and more space the worse the movie gets. (But still much respect to him! It's a good debut and I'm looking forwards to what's next!)
The movie borrows and references to Paranormal activity which is kinda nice and to begin with works out fine but in the end it gets really annoying. It's just too much.
This movie is still entertaining and perfectly watchable.
Lastly (this might be a spolire for some) I really doubt that you can kill yourself with a pillow.
Off the Beaten Path (2004)
Just no.
A found footage film with additional cameras? That's a big no - no in this genre it's also a really stupid an weird move even if the additional shots a shakey and bad. I mean if you're going to cheat and add more cameras why not make em' count?
The actors are also too bad to handle the very poorly written dialogue which makes watching this really annoying. And a tip to the filmmakers is that if you're going to use "satanic markings" please try and research some actual satanic symbols. This is either one of the worst found footage movies ever made or the worst comedy ever made.
Please trust me this movie is not worth you're time! It's not even so good that it's bad.
Stay away!
The Blackwell Ghost 2 (2018)
Seriously??
This isn't the worst faux documentary/mockumentary I've ever seen but it's definitely top 3.
After seeing the first movie I hoped as is often is with these type of series that the second one would be better. Well it kinda is regarding the effects but the story is laughable, damn right stupid and poorly written.
Even if the dude isn't winging it (which might be the case) it's close to sad.
Realsing now that this movie keeps haunting me and wasting my time while I'm writing this I'll leave out all the details about how this movie sucks and simply say, stay away and don't waste your time!
Gags The Clown (2018)
Very enjoyable!
I went in with the lowest of expectations and was very surprised cause this movie is actually really nice. I love the found footage format and I found this one being well executed.
About the recent clown hype, it's not at all my thing but thought that the story went a bit further than just depending on a scary clown.
I really recommend this movie to fans of both horror and maybe especially found footage. And yeah read the synopsis and look at the trailer, you can't expect much more than to be entertained, don't expect any cinematic masterpiece. This type of movies are supposed to be wiewed for what it is and this one happens to be very entertaining!
Well, except for the ending which I found really disappointing.
Bad Ben: Steelmanville Road (2017)
Not bad at all!
Saw the first Bad Ben around when it came out and wasn't too impressed. Liked it but put it at 4 here. Seeing this one has an all over lower rating my expectations wasn't high going in but I was impressed. Not amazed, impressed. This is actually a really nice prequel! If you as me are into found footage this is a must see. But as always with this inde type movies you has to see it for what it is.
Girl on the Third Floor (2019)
Brooks does perfectly OK.
To my surprise I enjoyed this movie a whole lot. A bit not in a good way weird, some logical gaps and all the usual flaws you could imaginen from this sort of production. The biggest mistake is calling it a horror movie because it's not. This is a horror comedy and has to be viewed as such. And cred where cred is due Brooks does perfectly OK as lead. See it for what it is and I guess that it will help to be a genre fan and you'll be perfectly entertained for what ever the running time is.
In the Tall Grass (2019)
A lot of grass, and screaming.
So this was a utter disappointment. It kinda starts out interesting, for the first 5 or 10 minutes or so. And then the screaming starts. And then the shots of the grass starts. There's so much annoying footage of the goddamn grass and I kept asking myself why is this so important to the plot? I cried inside and begged to the gods, please stop this screaming and yelling and stop feeding me all this grass. By now you might ask yourself why I just didn't turn it of? I don't know, it became about prestige I guess.
To sum it up, it reminded me so much of all the pointless and bad Stephen King adaptions from the 90s. Trust me I'm a big genre fan and this is just a waste of your time.
