Happy-Go-Lucky (2008)
Such a disappointment
I originally thought that this movie was about a woman with a medical problem that caused her to respond to every situation with "happy" responses because she was incapable of showing other emotions, and how it would eventually become apparent, and maybe she would be helped with this problem and suddenly experience terrible emotions she had never felt before, the movie would take a sharp turn, and all of the trite build-up in the first half would give way to a powerful second half. I was wrong. Poppy, the lead character played by Sally Hawkins, is just a dumb 30-year-old school teacher that thinks unbridled optimism is the solution to every problem. In real life, we call these people "out of touch with reality." This movie did not put a smile on my face, and the only time I was pleased was when Marsan's character, Scott, tried to beat Poppy up. At that point I was literally cheering for him, because I hoped it would teach her to stop being such an enormous idiot for once in her life. Instead, it just signaled the end of the movie, which left me wishing I hadn't wasted however long this movie was of my life.
10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
I can't stop watching this movie!
I wanted to see this movie when it first came out but never did. I didn't get a copy until a week ago and finally watched it with my girlfriend. I have to admit, I've seen it five times in the past week. A lot of teen movies have very basic or clichéd plots, but not this one. It's based on "The Taming of the Shrew" and it has a lot of interesting twists. The music is awesome, every song actually fits the moment, and the two love stories are actually interesting to watch. Even all the actors did a really great job. The only bad thing is the occasional dirty jokes. If you don't care for teen movies, don't worry, you are just like me, this movie is still worth watching. I'm giving it a 10 to bring those ratings up!
