Great
4 July 2005
Montevideo night of Winter,7 Celsius degrees.Cold, very cold, holidays on schools and the place full of people that expects the show.A great movie based on a genially written novel.A novel that was written more than a century ago.The same fear that some people feel when they think about the space, the same fear of the unknown. A great movie.Yes I have say it already. Accurately special effects, a great photography, the motion of the movie, the story, the things you know, and the things you hear and then the construction of an idea.

Dakota Fanning is the star, of course.Like we said in Uruguay " se roba la pelicula". A great actress, her eyes, her face movements, her screams. A outstanding Tim Robbins, what an actor, so scary at many times. The Sweet Miranda Otto, best known before as Éowyn of Rohan in the Lord of the Rings. The good Cruise..better every time.My advice, first read the novel, then do not miss this movie.

Great!
14 March 2005
It's a very good movie, dynamic, with a plenty of scenes in which you can hear the audience laugh and laugh. Diego Peretti is a pleasure, he acts so good that this movie really worth it.Cecilia Dopazo is great here and it was really good to see her name in the Casting and in the texts also. Soledad Villamil is great especially after seeing her acting in " Locas de amor" a TV series shown in Montevideo last year. Her part its so different from that I have seen in this series that really surprises.

Marcos Mundstock it is not a surprise at all. This great comic actor known here for his career in " Les Luthiers" personalizes here a psychiatrist quite drunk in some parts.

And of course it is a great scene of a dog giving birth.Great, great, great shot.

Great film
14 February 2005
There are so many things to say about this film and so many things to add to other reviews. Here in Uruguay, the poster they used was different. It contains no reference to the pellets. It used one shoot of Maria walking, so like one said we did not know for sure if something religious was involved. The film is greatfully well performed, the story had for moments an umbereable tension as Maria makes her journey into the States. So many people could ask why she choose that way,I think it is quite clear. She is pregnant of a man she does not love, and he does not love her either. She is living in place she does not fit, in a exploited job, under nasty job conditions ( Remember when her mother says Maria if her boss does not let her go to the bathrooms once a day), she does not want to become like her sister, so she has the determination to look for something she knows that could kill her. She is not an innocent girl, she takes the risks, and her intelligence saves her life , in the hotel, in the street and makes her an great human being. No one, who can blame her, no one should do it. I thinks Catalina Sandino Moreno is a great actress and I am really happy about the Prizes and the nominations. I hope this have just started.

The Lover (1992)

A masterpiece
7 February 2005
I have seen this movie in 1992. I was quite young, in fact I was 16 and when I heard about it something inside me make a noise. It seemed to be an amazing story, a girl of my age having a lover... I said Wow. And one afternoon I left my English class and I went to the movies. It was quite a desert. It was amazing, wonderful, marvelous, a gem. This story is well written and incredibly well performed with this exquisite Tomy Leung, an unknown actor to me at those times. The scene of the car, when Tomy Leung's finger barely touching Jane March's and the contrast with the one they are arriving to the Bording School with the grip of those hands. And her breath showing her arouse.

The love of those people who cannot break the rules of the world they were living, the prejudices, the society but that at least they could enjoy a period of exquisite love, tenderness, passion, experiences that one person could never forget. For me it is unforgettable, I have seen this movie nearly 20 times and I have recommended all of those I think they deserve a piece of joy.

A good movie
5 February 2005
I have just seen this movie, on TV. Saturday, drinking tea, and using the remote control hoping for a miracle in channel 12 of Montevideo, Uruguay. And it appears!!... This is a very nice movie, you can laugh, think, cry and find references to events, characters, behaviors of many people at their time. And seeing on 2005, after how comics and cartoons have evolved it is a pleasure. It was a pity that I could not enjoy Billy Cristal's voice cause it was in Spanish. It contains many jokes, references to particular historical situations. It portraits quite well the life of athletes and how maybe they give all their life such in gymnastics. I really enjoy this " before born" joke about her.
