Julia: Fried Chicken (2023)
A banquet of delight.
Classy, clever, subtle and never fails to please! Another great episode, loved seeing Isabella Rossellini again in her amusing role as Julia's jealous and competitive friend sharing her beautiful home in the French countryside. There is tension between the 2 friends as they prepare a menu, and sit down to a banquet with guests including Stockard Channing, her character an interesting addition to the group. A handsome young arrival causes a stir amongst the group, and adds interest to an already impressive gathering.
Meanwhile back in America, the TV studio, with its own multiple dramas, prepares for the return of Julia with her new recipes for the next series production. Avis has a rather zealous admirer and tries to deal with his attention.
Never a dull moment as every scene, alternating between the French countryside and the drama back in the TV studio, makes for great entertainment. Highly recommended.
The Twelve (2022)
The verdict is....
Well it was a long and painful wait, with some cringeworthy bits but overall the outcome was worth it. Quite satisfying on a few accounts. Would not like to be on a murder trial after watching this!
Bump (2021)
Left me feeling rather sad
This series was entertaining enough but ultimately reflects all that is wrong with our society. Anything goes, nothing to fear, never mind the consequences. Dysfunctional family, not surprising. Ho hum.
The Dry (2020)
So good!
Read the book a few years ago and had forgotten the outcome, loved the suspense and mystery, the story is a great 'whodunnit'. Quality actors and pacing, the flashbacks worked well also as a parallel story and unfolded gently, revealing vital details, to the revelation of truth at the end. The movie was very satisfying and money well spent. Love Eric Bana, he was perfect for this role!
