Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006)
Will Ferrell demonstrates his comic genius once again and proves himself as a bankable movie star!
Will Ferrell's brand of humor is a funny thing, you either love it or hate it. Having been a fan of his for almost 10 years, I have loved most every movie he's been in. The great thing about Ferrell's movies are the hilarious one-liners that he delivers with such dead-pan sarcasm and dry wit. There are some great performances in this movie. I was surprised at how funny John C. Reily was. This was a great departure from the serious characters he usually plays. Ferrell's two you sons, appropriately named Walker and Texas Rangers had some great one liners as well. "Grandpa, I'm gonna jump on you like a spider monkey."Gary Cole was great as Reese Bobby, the alcoholic Will Ferrell has certainly proved he can carry a movie and is a bankable movie star, especially among the teen and young adult crowd. He is as funny now as he was four years ago when he left SNL. He can do all sorts of comedy and deliver a funny line like no one else. I think this movie will be the equivalent of what "Wedding Crashers" was last summer.People will be quoting this movie for the rest of the year. Like a lot of people, my favorite scene was the dinner table prayer. "Dear Lord baby Jesus, lying there in your ghost manger, watching your Baby Einsteins and learning your shapes and colors." If you are looking for a laugh-out loud comedy with great one-liners,check out Talladega Nights.
Tiny Toon Adventures: How I Spent My Vacation (1992)
A fond childhood memory!
This was one of my favorite movies from childhood. I watched it so many times, eventually my tape wore out. I was a huge fan of this show and still am.The thing I love most about this movie is that it appeals to so many people, both young and old. I watch this movie now and laugh just as hard as I did the first time I saw it. I am now able to appreciate all the adult jokes that I never got as a child. My favorite characters are Elmyra and Foulmouth. Almost fifteen years later, my dad (a huge fan of the movie as well) and I are still quoting lines from this movie. I love the part where Foulmouth and Shirley go to the movies. "You save the seats, Shirl and I'll snag the dadgum snacks." I also loved the storyline of Plucky and Hampton and his family going to Happy World Land. Wade Pig reminded me a lot of my dad. I love the part when they finally get to Happy World Land and all they do is ride on the monorail. This movie is hilarious and appeals to children and kids. The animation, jokes and everything about it are top notch. If you have not seen it, rent it. You won't be sorry.
The Little Mermaid (1989)
The last movie of Disney's golden age!
The Little Mermaid is truly a masterpiece among all of its followers in the Disney canon. I can remember seeing this movie in the theater when I was six years-old and being completely mesmerized by the story, songs and characters. Even as I watch it today, I can see why it has remained so popular for all these years. The Little Mermaid ushered in an entire new era of Disney movies, yet took us back to the golden age of Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. What makes this movie so great is its simplicity. It is entertaining to both children and adults. It is a timeless love between two unlikely heroes. The songs in the movie are beautiful and truly enhance the story. Not to metion, they get stuck in your head for days. As a child I remember walking out of the theater and singing the songs all the way home. Alan Menken and Howard Ashman are the modern-day Rodgers and Hammerstein of movie scores. As the last Disney movie to be entirely drawn by hand, it holds a special place in Disney history. The animation is truly breathtaking. The characters have the wonderful combination of both depth and lovability. There are so many elements that make this movie a classic, i would be here for days if I went into any more detail. Bottom line, this is a must see movie for all ages. The best Disney movie of the last 20 years.
