Nowhere Special (2020)
Deeply moving and touching
Wonderful film full of sad powerful emotion but done delicately not in your face
The direction was excellent as was the sublime script all handled very subtly
James Norton is wonderful his performance is award winning as a man given a short time to live while finding somewhere for his lovely little boy
The boy is wonderful captures your heart
It's all done very subtly and with great affection for the main characters
It's a film worth watching as you feel the love between father and son in gentle day to day living
The journey they make through the film is touching and full of love
You will need a box of tissues at the end
But feel richer for seeing and experiencing this film.
Father Brown: The Company of Men (2023)
Not as good as it used to be
I love father brown
The series has been one of my fave go to shows since the beginning
Now apart from father brown and a few others like flambou and lady Felecia
It's completely ruined the show with the new girl ( hopeless and characters actress) and the new church secretary vapid airhead not a patch on mrs Mc Carthy oh how I loved her chats with father brown
I miss her so much Sorcha and mark were wonderful together
Why ruin a brilliant series's can they come back or is it doomed now with these below par actors
Could even bunty make a return
I miss the old father brown it had character and a sense of family amongst them all
Please sort it this isn't working
Mark Williams has nobody to bounce off
Was brilliant now very mediocre
Sorry.
Elvis (2022)
Brilliant tour de force
This is a film that takes you on a wonderful journey
From elvis start in life to the latter years
Tom Hank's is good as the slippery agent but Austin butler is mind boggling good it's a virtuoso performance and he becomes elvis body heart and soul.
The film is shot in a mesmerising way and the music and editing throughout make it a magical cinematic experience from beginning to end.
There are other very strong preformances throughout but it's touch of baz that makes the film extra special and an experience I won't forget
By the way I'm not an elvis fan but after this film I view him in a different light
Worth watching and enjoy the spectacle it's fantastic.
Oscar worthy film.
Bull: Goodbye (2022)

Michael wetherly should be so very proud of his work creating such a believable and likeable strong character as Jason Bull
It's been an exciting 6 years and I will miss it so very much
The last 2 episodes were wondergul full of power and emotion with a fitting end to a great series
I really wish this series was still going but I fear it it's not
Thank you all in bull for the concept and imagination to bring a series that captures the intellect and doesn't have much unnecessary gore
One of a kind
Will miss you
Thank you for 6 wonderful years.
Love Among the Ruins (1975)
Brilliant film with star quality cast
This films brings two great actors together Hepburn and Olivier both at their best in this touching film
They both steal the film from the rest but everyone acts well beside them
It's a touching story of old love being rekindled and a law suit which they both do justice too and a young Leigh Lawson is excellent in a supporting role joan sims is does a good job with such luminaries .
The music of John Barry enhances every scene it's haunting presence Stays with you and is memorable
Wonderful to see such brilliant actors together
Magic.
I wish they had made more films together they really act well together bringing out some of their best work.

And Just Like That... (2021)
Welcome back missed you
Loved original series but this speaks to those fans who have grown up and are now dealing with issues of a more mature nature and has gravitas
Thank you for this really nicely acted and scripted series looking forward to next episode
It has power and still has fashion
You go girl ( to quote Samantha) who I still miss.
The Pursuit of Love (2021)
It could have been brilliant
Good acting good story and great sets
Just badly put together
It's like Wes Anderson meets Marie Antoinette
The soundtrack is very 80s and isn't a great fit
Pity it has great potential.
Riviera: The Good Life (2020)
Great series can't wait for 4
This is a tightly done story with good acting
Great story that pulls all together
Style scenery etc all bliss
Most of all a great story
Addicted wanted more
Why are others complaining this is a better story than the first two
I liked both but this has an edge and I really hope they make more .
I Care a Lot (2020)
Excellent film with many twists
I found it hard to read all the bad reviews of this really excellent movie.
Excellent script acting and had me on the edge of my seat. Also very relevant today the way care homes are run.
The twists were plentiful and there were so many good performances from rosemund pike in the title role and Chris Messina as a lawyer plus Peter Dinklage but all were good and it pulled together into a tight thriller with some black humor .
From beginning to end a great film
Maybe you have to be over 40 to appreciate how people abuse the elderly to get the premise of the film or just know how American business is run .
Great film watch and see
I recommend to anyone who likes a good film.
Prodigal Son (2019)
Brilliant series
This is a must see series . It grabs you from the beginning and had me on the edge of my seat most episodes. Michael sheen is incredible as always in a mesmerizing performance as a serial killer who is also a doctor who is in prison and father of the lead Tom Payne who does a great job acting against such an experienced actor.
The series involves and evolves each week with Tom
Payne finding serial killers for the police and sometimes referring to his dad for help.
But it's much more there are many sub plots and twists it's really excellent tv
A must see one of the best in a longtime .
BlacKkKlansman (2018)
A must see film
I was expecting a good film but watched a great film.
From beginning to powerful end it had me hooked . Wonderfully directed profound script and excellent acting with great soundtrack also.
It's as relevant today as when it was set and we need to pay attention times haven't changed enough.
Think of the orange man at the end.
Watch enjoy be transported to the 70s live through a time of great change but it needs much more today let's not go back.
Do yourself a favor it's has wit as well as wisdom and drama.
After Life (2019)
Touching funny with a real heart
Such a wonderful series with great acting, well drawn characters and brilliant cast ,plus excellent script by Ricky.
I do love Ricky and was apprehensive when I heard the subject matter but should have trusted him to give his own take on it.
It has everything from sad to funny with touching moments I will remember forever.
I hope you do a 2nd series it's such a wonderful series we need more like this.
Well done mr Gervais this is your best yet thank you.
Will & Grace: Grace's Secret (2018)
Brilliant episode
Thanks grace for highlighting in a real way what is needed for people to see and hear.
Great performance by Debra messing felt every word.
Love the show you are funny and relevant not many shows are.
Great episode too for rest of cast .
Maigret: Maigret in Montmartre (2017)
Great series more please
I love Rowan as Maigret he is perfect and compelling. The series is wonderful ,attention to detail superb and scripts that keep you enthralled to the end.
This was a great episode with many twists
More please it's what tv should be
Great drama and compelling stories and wonderfully shot.
Allied (2016)
Old fashioned thriller with heart
There have been so many negative reviews I had to write what I feel is an accurate review.
I really liked this film it had everything you would want in a ww2 thriller and love story,a nod to Casablanca and the English patient .
The story is a girl meets guy during an espionage mission. They marry and move to England and there we are intrigued by their life and what happens next.
Good script ,costumes and direction with great performances from Brad and Marion plus Simon birney and Jared Harris.
It's really worth watching grabs you all the way through and leaves you with a feeling of having an experience which is rare these days.
The White Countess (2005)
A Tribute to the last Merchant/Ivory production
A Final Gem from this brilliant duo
I don't want to spoil this film for anyone at the moment, I would just like to say that it is worth watching, not just for the wonderful sets and for the haunting score but also for the fine acting performances of Ralph Fiennes and Natasha Richardson and the rest of the Redgrave family, amongst others.
Its wonderfully restrained but still powerful and although it takes a little while to come together, as do so many good films, it does so quite beautifully and is well worth the wait. You might well learn something about people on this movie journey and at best you will enjoy a great work , albeit the last, from the Merchant/Ivory team. I fitting tribute to their genius. Go see it and make your own mind up.
In short a film of broken lives and broken souls, finding their way to live and love again, in very different ways, amid a backdrop of 1930's Shanghi on the brink of war. Let the film unfold for you, as it is meant to.
Manhattan (1979)
who could ask for anything more?
This is my favorite Woody Allen film and I have them all.
Its a magical film shot in black and white in the most atmospheric way. Its shot with great love of the city of New York and of the characters therein. The score by Gershwin is sheer perfection and makes it a work of genius.
Its an extremely funny film, which switches between humor and pathos, and has that bitter sweet quality that I love in most of his films. He deserved the Oscar nod for it and should have received it. Oddly enough its not Woodys favorite, of his many works of sheer sublime genius. But I feel its his best. From Annie Hall and Play It Again Sam to Hannah and Her Sisters straight through to Manhatten Murder Mystery and The Curse of the Jade Scorpion. All of them gems.
For those of you who haven't seen the film, its essentially about an ensemble cast dealing with relationships and the fear of missing out on what might have been, rather than appreciating what you have. Of course there is love lost and love found and back again.
The Cast is excellent from Dianne Keaton to Meryl Streep and a very young but excellent Hemmingway. The film is really an homage to Woody's New York and his love of Gershwin and the films of the 30's are very visible in this film.
I don't want to spoil the film if you haven't seen it and if you have watch it again, it worth watching again and again. Its vintage woody.
The Phantom (1996)
good old fashioned ripping yarn
I watched this movie on TV last night and found it great fun.In the best sense of the word.
Old fashioned film making, good guys and bad guys, clearly defined and a good tale, well told. OK there were flaws in there also(mainly the interior set pieces which look like sound stages), but they should be overlooked, as its not a serious film and is not pretending to be anything other than it is. Its a fantasy/adventure film, in the best tradition, the kind they don't make anymore,no special effects, to speak of, but good action, wonderful locations and some good acting, for this genre.
I expect in this day of high tech special effects, it may seem less alluring to the more high tech minded but if your looking for some good old fashioned fun, this is one to watch. Not my favorite film, by any means but worth a look and deserves more than 5 out of 10, I give it 7 and hope somebody enjoys it for what it is, rather than what they feel it should be.
A film for the family to enjoy on a rainy Sunday afternoon.
