Dead Kids (2019)
Definitely one of the worst movies I've seen.
Bad acting ✔
Worst script in any media ✔
no real life lesson or meaningful story line ✔
a more popular actor that offered nothing in the movie ✔
unlikeable characters ✔
Here's the story kids gets bullied, bullied kid was talked into kidnapping the bully, the act "unsurprisingly" went wrong which caused a death, the police obviously caught them afterwards.
I havent seen a movie this bad in a long time, a complete waste of time.
Ajin (2017)
As a stand-alone movie this is a god awful incoherent mess, as an adaptation the movie fails, everything is diluted and the stakes are lower
On its own the movie is all over the place and it struggles in every aspect of the story, its just 1:40 mins of squeezing every bit they can copy paste from the anime to make an "Ajin movie".
There's no character development involve or character motivation rather than just wanting to fight or Nagai hating Sato for no reason.
The scene where Nagai cried for the Hisegawa was also laughable, what they only exchange 1 line or they barely knew each other. (if you know the source material its even worse considering Nagai is somewhat of a sociopath, he wouldnt care much especially if he knew that guy for only less than a day.)
They even managed to neuter very interesting characters like Sato and Nagai in this movie while lowering the stakes in every aspect of the story.
If you watch this movie coming from the source material however i can imagine what Deathnote fans felt when they watch the Deathnote live action film.
Sato saying to Nagai "Your my final wave" or "Final boss" was disgutingly bad, Nagai fighting him on even terms would never happened (he can barely survive an encounter against Sato on his own).
The final scene of Nagai flying was also the worst thing I've seen.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
An easy 10/10
I love the show, its one of the best series ive seen in a long time.
The Two Popes (2019)
The amount of Jump cuts and the speed of how it is done reminds me of the Bourne Series' nauseating camera work.
I just started watching this on Netflix and this might be due to preference but i really hate seeing so many ADD-inducing CUTS and unimportant frames when watching movies. The cuts are so bad that in the first 15 minutes, there is approx 7cuts per second.
I'm not a film snob but i prefer long cuts, frames that would direct your eyes to something like the director directing your eyes to a specific object/angle in order to tell subtle details and gradual shifts. I also dont know why they used a shaky cam and weird zooms and questionable angles (ex the first long conversation from the two pope, you can see that their heads are not fully in frame, when Price is talking, the cam is focused on Hopkins for a second but there's nothing relevant with his facial reaction nor did the camera stayed there to imply any importance why they zoomed in Hopkins instead of Price.
I'm no expert but i know what i like, and i was hoping that this was a good movie, the shoddy camera work makes this unwatchable and i hope this isnt a trend that other filmmakers would follow.
Earthquake Bird (2019)
Solid but conflicting movie about Guilt and PTSD
I consider the movie conflicting since I had a hard time deciding how to rate the movie from 7.5 - 9.5. I think this is truly a solid movie but i almost didn't finish this if it wasn't because of Alicia Vikander's amazing performance.
My issue with the movie is that:
1. None of the main cast are likeable, i knew people who could relate with Lucy's condition but i didn't like her passivity.
2. Teiji - Every detail about him screams that he is a serial-killer, it was obvious and i knew from the very start (when he was taking pictures of Lucy and a puddle of water. It was so obvious that it felt like the only thing the director didn't do is to put a stamp/writing "SERIAL KILLER" on his forehead.
3. Slow and confusing - i think that this is the main reason why the movie gained negative reviews, i had a hard time finishing the movie but in retrospect i think this is intentionally done for the tone. We were watching from Lucy's point of view, everything about her is dull, she's hallucinating most of the time because of her guilt, her need for connection and anxiety.
Aside from that, the ending is rewarding and redeems the main character which makes the movie worth watching.
Brightburn (2019)
Good Premise, Terrible in Everything else
Its as of they simply made the movie for sake of making an anti-superman movie in mind without caring for the story.
This movie is a waste of time and it takes a lot of wasted time for the sake of suspense that would inevitably fail in its execution.
The characters are lackluster with no character development. With Brandon/Brightburn its just in his nature to kill, no growth, no rationalization/ meaning in his action. He kills because he is stronger and he is a predator just like how the movie explains the difference of wasps compare to the bees. (That's the only Development FOR THE WHOLE MOVIE)
There are no real lessons and moral of the story. It's simple a Superhero movie made different.
It angers me that i wasted time on this garbage and expecting something because I've seen good reviews.
Worst Movie, Go watch The Boys on Amazon if you want a (evil) Superhero content that has substance.
Arrival (2016)
The Arrival is an entertaining well made film, until you get to the ending.
The First thing that i like in the movie is that i like the depiction of the aliens. How they tried to interact with them using a certain language. I was trying to imagine that perhaps if this scenario happens in real life we would be facing similar problems. I also like the mystery in trying to understand their language and i felt that part was executed well and the cast were outstanding.
What i don't like however is that on paper the story is very thin and it lacks substance. What i like most about the film about the aliens weren't as fleshed out as i would like to know more about them and their predicament after 3000 years as they said. Near the end, it feels like it was rushed and that the time-travelling part was quite out of place. It felt like it was a cheap way of using deus ex machina in order to put the protagonists role in the story..
I enjoyed the movie for the most part. The problem is that i don't think this movie gives much depth or lesson to begin nor does the interesting portrayal of the aliens redeem the terrible excuse of the ending this movie has.
Spider-Man 2 (2004)
It would have been a great movie if they didn't recycled the first one's story.
I would have enjoyed this more if i didn't watched the first one.
At first it bothered me why i never like this film. I love the acting, the characters, the ending, everything here is objectively good, despite that i never had any fun watching this. It just became apparent that whatever happened here parallels the story of what happened in the first one.
Granted, The original was one of the best superhero movies i've watched at the time, i loved it for what it was and i enjoyed watching it at least twice which is something that i rarely do.
Then this movie was released afterwards, in almost every way it is better than the first one, the actor for Doc Oct needs a special mention and the emotions that transpired within the movie gave the feel that a lot more is at stake.
At the time i felt compelled to like this movie for what it is, but it's something i can't do, despite the talent the actors put in table, this movie feels cheap and a cop out since i already watched the first one which is basically the template of all the 3 spiderman movies (with Tobey Mcguirre)
The villain's performance was stellar; i cannot stress that enough, but that only amplifies the feeling that their talents were wasted and the recycling of the story of spiderman 1 spoiled the greatness of this one.
