Gemma is Great! Apart from THAT coat!
7 August 2019
An interesting film that shows Gemma at his best. Neat photography and some pleasant incidental music but an annoying main theme that repeats throughout! The kid is good and typical storyline, but gunfights are effective with realistic blood squid effects. One for Gemma fans for sure!

Fun movie if you're into family westerns
14 June 2019
Some beautiful photography and great landscapes. Shooter Green- both young and old - looks good and is very convincing. I love a good western. But this was not Indiana Jones in the Wild West as the music might suggest. A good family western worthy of the 'Hallmark" channel where everything and everyone was spotlessly clean. And if you love sloppy endings then this is for you.

Great project from local independent director
28 September 2018
This is a great and authentic looking film from a new Director with a wonderful story that he also wrote. This is portrayed through some fine acting from the young lead cast, some beautiful photography and wonderful directing. An engaging, and at times amusing, film that will have you captivated from beginning to end and also leave you pondering a question or 2.

Fine acting and beautiful photography.
2 May 2018
This is a great and authentic looking film from a new Director with a wonderful story following the plight of Sarah, from her brief encounter with a German Naval Officer in WW2 through to a time just after the war. Originally produced as a stage play Brian O'Connell has brought his heart-felt and warming project to film and follows the hardships of a single mother in post war England. This is portrayed through some fine acting from the young lead cast, some beautiful photography and wonderful directing. A beautiful film that will have you captivated from beginning to end.

No horse, no name!
13 April 2018
The Cowboy is stranded in the desert, no horse, no name. Why is he here? How did he get here? Is he being pursued? Or is someone pursuing him? Some beautiful photography and a fine performance from Adam Gold sets this short western apart from many others.

MARMITE - love it or hate it.
14 March 2018
Okay - I have watched up to and including Episode 4 but enough is enough. Most other reviewers have covered the good and not so good points- and I am curious to know how it ends. However I can't sit through another 6 episodes of mumbling and quiet speaking or whispering. Audio is 50% of a film and it isn't working if you are straining constantly to hear what the actors are saying. Ok - yes, I could put on the subtitles, but should I have to? No, not for an English speaking TV series. With even better and more sophisticated sound recording equipment why is it so difficult for sound engineers to get the balance correct! So the plan is to read the plot lines of Episodes 5 to 9 and then try and watch Episode 10. Wish me luck!

Keeping the Spirit of the West alive and well.
30 November 2017
There is some superb photography and fine acting in this locally produced western from director Mike Weismann. An intriguing western that builds up the suspense along the journey until the dramatic climax. Almost epic in its length this is western that recaptures the spirit of the west and the cast and crew do an excellent job of keeping the spirit of the west alive and well in BANNOCK.

Disappointing!
15 December 2016
The photography was wonderful and this must have been a difficult film to film for cast and crew in all that snow and ice. But unfortunately for me it was all rather a big disappointment. This is a real shame as there are not enough westerns being made at this time, but this one just did not hit the mark. It was original for sure in its location but rather lost its way. Sorry! For westerns to survive they have to be original and have a good mix of action and dialogue. After all youngsters seem to prefer programmes and films like Game of Thrones. Westworld has captured the imagination of a lot of people and has a lot of fans due to its style and content. Refreshing, to say the least!

Disappointing ? It was not!
1 March 2016
A wonderfully crafted film with some stunning photography and a terrific slow burning performance from Scott Eastwood. I tend to agree that maybe the drone / aerial shots were a little overdone but on the whole it is a beautiful film that gives the viewer time to digest the photography and just watch the lone cowboy on a mission. Excellent framed shots that were beautifully framed using that iconic image of the cowboy to perfection. A good start from Eastwood if he continues down the western trail. The music was a little understated but Walton Goggins performance was both menacing and mean. I love moody, slow burning westerns with a good looking central character so for me this one near perfection.

Big on small screen; not so big on the silver screen
17 February 2016
Great TV series - pacey, edgy and dynamic. However on the BIG screen it loses that edge. Some terrific set pieces and great use of some London locations, but Harry Peace's character was not engaging enough and unfortunately the new boy Kit Harrington was not at all convincing. Disappointing film, as I loved the TV series. This review on the RadioTimes website says it all for me.... "Had The Greater Good been on BBC1, perhaps over two nights, it would have felt like espionage Christmas had come early, but in the isolation of a single hit, it struggles to fill the screen. It gives me no pleasure to write this. But perhaps it should have stayed retired, for the greater good."

Mumbling Martha
20 February 2015
I, personally, love slow burners like this one - with beautiful western scenery, long single- take shots, and interesting and attractive characters. I agree with nearly everything already mentioned in the previous reviews so won't repeat all that here. Save to say I felt the dialog, and this the film, was spoiled by Martha's mumbling! I had to turn on the sub-titles to understand what Clare Bowen was saying as she truly is one of the world's greatest mumblers. (Even in Nashville I have difficulty understanding her.) And even the sub-title writer must have had problems, because quite often in Martha's speech it would just say "inaudible". That said it is a beautiful western! And we don't see too many of them around these days.

Visually stimulating.
14 October 2013
"Awesome" - Aaron Watson (musician and singer of Strong Arm Of The Law)

"Paul, you have a great visual knack that's hard to come by. I was impressed not only with the technical aspects, but with your creativity in general...wonderful camera angles and visually stimulating choices for not only the actors, but the land itself. You obviously understand Arizona and portrayed it beautifully. Costuming was great, and the actors very effective. You may have stumbled onto a new genre...extended music videos that combine the essence of a song with the sensibilities of a movie. Very nice. By the way...I loved the intro...the fishing scene was great!" - Jon Chandler (author , singer and songwriter)
