House M.D. (2004–2012)
10/10
Best TV series in recent years (ever?)
13 November 2007
I'm not a big fan of hospital themed series/films, never liked the highly acclaimed "ER", though I did enjoy "Let the Blood Run Free" but that one is a little bit different to say the least. Missed nearly half of the first "House M.D." season until my roommate persuaded me to give it a try. So I did...and I became a die-hard fan instantly.

So what's so good about it? Well, to tell you the truth, everything. The cases are truly interesting and I should say even sophisticated, you never know what's going to happen next and it doesn't always have a happy ending. Some scenes are pretty gruesome, but that's fine with me.

And now we come the best part of "House M.D." - doctor Gregory House himself. I find it difficult to describe how amazing this character is. He is an insane genius, coming up with the most absurd theories that actually work and he does everything he can to apply those theories into practice and I really mean EVERYTHING even if it's (and it usually is) against the rules, laws, moral issues and whatnot. It's not that he cares about his patients, it's all about curing the disease, about solving the puzzle, since House simply sucks as a human being. He's cynic, misanthropic son of a bitch with an ego bigger than the Moon. He doesn't like anyone and no-one likes him. Plus, he's a cripple, a painkiller addict, he's extremely witty, unmatched in making ironic/sarcastic jokes and remarks. Trust me, you've never seen anything like this character and that's the main reason I love this TV series so much, you simply can't resist. It's either you love him, or hate him and in any case, he doesn't care. :)

Hello everybody, I'm from Lithuania, the country where this movie was made :) Although I haven't seen it yet, I've read the book, which the movie is based on, "Balys Sruoga - Dievu Miskas" (Forest of the Gods) several times and the least I can say is that it's absolutely wonderful, capturing the cruelties of the concentration camp with subtle black humour and irony. Especially when describing the main "bad guys" (gards, authority of the camp). As you may know the book which the movie is based on is an autobiography of the author Balys Sruoga, he suffered in this camp and survived, then wrote a book. Not sure how good the movie is, but judging from the book it should be a masterpiece. Obviously, this movie should be viewed in original Lithuanian language for maximum effect, because sometimes, well most of the time, the subtitles are somewhat terrible. That'll be all, sorry for mistakes if any :)
