Surrogates (2009)
8/10
Concept was almost too big for 90 minutes
20 July 2010
I didn't even know this was made until I was poking around a DVD bin. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It had some pretty good action scenes, a hell of a concept, and a really good plot. That being said, the plot could have shown more development, but this did not ruin the eventual resolution in the film. The film would have benefited by getting further into the situations going on. The twists did not get enough lead-in and characters were not given enough screen time to show their actual importance. Some of the lines weren't delivered in a smooth form by a few of the actors. This happens a lot with sci-fi and fantasy movies because the rhetoric is so foreign that actors don't know how to use it. The concept of the movie really sets up the plot. So, much can be done with it, and yet, very little was. Another hour and this could have been Bruce Willis' best movie. Perhaps, it wasn't longer because they didn't want the sub-plot of the huge concept of 'surrogates' to take over the main plot of crime mystery. It was worth the time and money to watch

The potential is there
8 July 2010
I generally love a film with a good concept. That being said, it seems that something of the story was lost in editing. Acting seemed a bit off, but it probably has more to do with line delivery. They could have worked that out in editing. How much of Star Wars' dialogue was done after the fact in a sound studio? I really want to blame M Knight Shamylan cause I feel he could have said "cut!" Someone should have asked "you really want people to see that?" Especially after the Happening, which did have decent acting, but didn't go anywhere. I also felt a little uncomfortable watching the fight scenes, which I know is part of a plot device, but the style seems a little alien to me.

We must understand that this is based on a popular Nickelodeon cartoon named Avatar. So, don't expect a three hour fantasy.Although most of the acting was bad, I did like Patel. I really love the concepts. I think the film was rushed and didn't develop a theme. It suffers from being only 90 minutes long. Put an hour on that and an extra month or 2 of getting the voices right, and it would have been awesome. but it's a summer release, and just like the transformer movies deadlines and dollars are more important than a quality film. I give this a 5, which means I don't like it, but if it was on TV I wouldn't turn it off. If I had the money and If my kid already saw Toy Story 3 or any other kids' movie out there, I'd take 'em to see it.

stacy wrote it for sid
29 May 2006
if you remember the documentary...sid was not a z-boy....but if it wasn't for him this movie nor the x-games would not be possible....yes embellishment was everywhere in the story...but stacy was as it was shown, the outsider... and he wrote as an outsider...the only thing he truly captured, and the only thing that matters....was the personalities of the z-boys...and he was modest when writing himself...a little too much....he wrote himself as being incredibly modest...and unaware...like a doubting thomas...but he held the importance of the characters true...and from his skewed perspective..as being apart of the movement he created..he wrote a darn good flick...remember if it wasn't for jay skating wouldn't be thrash...if it wasn't for tony alva...there'd never be skating superstars...and without stacy there'd obviously be no movie...or a TONY....and without sid everyone would still be skating on hardwood basketball courts----------8 out of 10

Alan & Naomi (1992)

for anyone who loves this film
24 March 2006
I understand that many have not seen this film.and i would not have found it again myself if it wasn't for this site. i saw this on a weekend special done by starz.and after that i've subscribed ever since, but they have never shown it , this movie if you look at it from the point of view of a child, shines to the truth Alan doesn't understand Naomi any better she does to him. anyone who has children will understand that it's hard to realize what they go through. how can a child understand the death of their parents if they've nothing to to compare it to.. if you believe that mother is god upon your lips than how can a poor Jewish boy who can't even speak your language assuage your grief?...this is a movie about breaking through...Alan and Naomi find what every wants and can't have if just for a moment... please i just wish you'd let it touch you the way it has me...I gave this movie a ten out of ten because it captures the human spirit ...and just like all it's watchers should have ...it gives you what you want.....courtesy William Shakespeare
