Somewhat original but still pretty damn bad...
2 July 2016
Warning: Spoilers
It's awful. Don't be fooled by anyone who says otherwise. Yes, it starts really well, the use of light and the beginning of the movie got my attention, but then it suddenly becomes incredibly stupid, absurd and clichéd.

For example, there's this scene where a girl's mom dies, and seconds after she's almost having sex with a guy she JUST MET THE DAY BEFORE! Seriously? Who wrote that? That same mom turns into a zombie, but she had been infected for at least a day, whilst two other girls get bitten and turn in like five minutes. Come on!

Some zombies are chasing two characters by running, but conveniently decide to walk to chase some other characters in order to let them get home safely and lock the doors. One guy steals a box of food supplies from a random woman, only to toss it away minutes after!

This movie is a bad joke. Don't get me wrong, I wanted to like it and I actually thought it was going to be great for the sole reason that this isn't an American film. But it's horrible and the ending is just offensive to what's acceptably realistic in movies...

What a waste of time...
14 May 2016
I'd rate this a 0 if I could...

All these "actors" shouldn't be allowed to even try to make another "film" ever again. They're all terrible, they really can't act at all and they are all annoying. I assume the good reviews come from their friends or something, because this movie is utter trash. It doesn't deserve to be distributed.

It's just really hard to take this movie seriously when everything feels like a bad attempt of a comedy. Yeah, it feels like a comedy but it's not funny, nor is it scary, nor is it anything at all. It's just bothersome. I sat through the whole thing just so that I could firmly say that THIS is one of the WORST found footage films (and probably films in general) out there.

Believe me, you don't want to waste your time on this one. I'm sure that any other FF film is a better example and a far superior effort.

It had been a while since I watched a good FF movie
11 October 2015
I'll begin by saying that I love found footage movies, although most of them are quite disappointing at some point. However, there's fairly good examples of this genre, such as The Phoenix Incident.

As the title denotes, this film is based on the Phoenix Lights, the biggest UFO sighting in the USA that took place in 1997. I am a fan of the sighting myself, so when I learned what this movie was about I just had to watch it. It was a pleasant surprise! I love how they mixed the real story, with real footage and real news coverage with the fictional story, which is about the disappearance of four men the exact same night the Phoenix Lights took place.

The faux documentary (mockumentary) stile really suits this movie because it kind of makes it feel like it actually happened and we are watching real footage of an alien encounter. Towards the end of the film everything gets a little too repetitive, and for someone who has already seen plenty of found footage movies, this one offers nothing new to the genre. That's why I give it a 6 out of 10. The acting is good though, the special effects are really well worked and the music helps the atmosphere! I don't know, I really liked this movie and I totally recommend it to anyone who's interested either in UFO related stuff or found footage films!

Poltergeist (1982)
3/10
Overrated and unimpressive
1 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
My entire review may have a lot to do with the fact that I watched this today (april 2015), which is probably the reason I didn't like the movie, but I really think it was bad; really, really bad.

All of this film is just poorly done. I like Steven Spielberg's work and I am a huge fan of horror movies but Poltergeist lacks a lot of interesting things to be considered a classic, or a good horror movie. I feel like it is overrated mainly because it falls under the "it's from the 80s so it must be rather good" conventionalization. Firstly, the plot is nonsense even though it could have been great. So an entire neighborhood was built over a huge cemetery, which is why these random ghosts decide to kidnap, for whatever reason, a young girl during a stormy night. Her parents seek help and so a group of ghost-busters goes into the house and, by doing pretty much nothing, save the girl. After that there is a huge ghost manifestation that forces the family to finally leave the house, and that's it. Almost two hours for not too much going on.

The effects are good for the time, the acting is solid, camera work is flawless, but there just had to be more to this film! Its tone felt WAY too comic, the horrible music appears to be composed for a drama flick, and there aren't just enough "scary" moments. I am not talking about jump-scares (no one cares about them), but about creepy atmospheres and unsettling events! This movie lacked that precisely, and it's the whole point of horror movies! I understand that 70s-80s was the era of slashers and maybe Poltergeist tried to do something different for the time being, but it just didn't get it right.

All in all, this film isn't a classic nor the best horror movie ever made nor anything memorable. If you wish to watch it just for the sake of it being popular and famed, go ahead, but have in mind that this isn't 1980 and therefore it won't be even slightly impressive.

Noah (2014)
8/10
Really enjoyable, though it could have been better.
21 March 2014
Warning: Spoilers
"Noah" follows what is said in the Bible pretty well, although there are many fictional (untold) elements added. As a man who does not believe in God or religion, I've always found mythology a very interesting aspect of ancient cultures, and this film tells one short but important tale in the book of Christianity in a credible and coherent way.

The story unfolds quite calmly but it will always keep you watching. Some elements that were added are weird but some others even feel like they belong to the original story, there's many emotional moments and, of course, action sequences. The climax scene, however, could have been a bit longer since all of what is shown in the trailer about the flood, is what is seen in the movie, sadly.

Still, a very good movie that anyone, believer or not, should watch.

Incredibly boring
26 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
When I saw "Bloody Disgusting Productions" at the start of the film I knew there was something wrong with it. The first minutes were sort of good, it caught my attention at the point when the girls crash and fall to the sea. But right after that, even the "scary" parts, the film got weaker and weaker. The camera work was awful most of the time, and the little girl heavily resembled the one in Case 39 to me, which took away the originality of the film.

The twist at the end, however, was pretty clever and interesting. My eyes were almost fully closed when that part came, and I woke up completely. Still, not a very good film to watch. I strongly suggest to horror fans to not see this, ever; but I do suggest that people who want to but can't take a nap, take a look at this! Surely that will work ;)

The Bay (II) (2012)
8/10
What every horror movie should be like.
20 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This movie got me clinging on my bed with fear. It is not the classical ghost or monster movie that can only scare you with overly loud SFX, which is also why many people won't or didn't like it. It focuses on a (sort of) natural disaster: some parasite that mutated because of a bunch of chemicals spilled in the water, causing anyone who gets in contact with it to die eaten inside.

The general idea, I think, was really good. The "found footage" format made it a bit more spine-chilling, the acting and special effects weren't bad, and the scary jump moments were put at the right times. The fact that The Bay does feel like a real documentary, because of the whole "footage" that was used (such as Skype calls and news background conversations), really suits the movie.

In the end one could just end up thinking "could this be real?" and the answer would likely be "posibly". I give this a 9/10 thanks to the jitters that can be felt during the entire film, and even to the "moral" of the story: take care of the planet or the planet will take care of you!
