Road House (2024)
The Road House +The Boat + The Movie = 100% Entertainment
It's a simple movie with a simple backstory and simple characters. But that's not a negative thing. Just like the John Wick, Equalizer or Nobody-formula you get a larger-than-life hero, some hateable villains and a endgame boss (McGregor) that is so over the top that it hurts in a funny way.
It's revenge, it's redemption, it's entertaining. If you don't like that, don't watch movies like that. Because it won't get much better in this particular genre.
The cinematic execution, the music, the setting, everything feels like big screen action cinema so take out your popcorn, dim the lights and enjoy a worthy two hours vacation from the real world. Oh yes, switching off your brain might even enhance the experience.
Eine Billion Dollar (2023)
A trillion missed opportunities
Such a great book, so many scenes that cried for cinematic scenes but the script writers obviously had no love for the novel or the viewers. Take the scene when John is heir to a trillion dollar. In the book, all lawyers round up and they first say, he gets a million, than 10, than 100 until the oldest of them breaks the news of a trillion. Each time, John reacts and the whole thing is just beautiful. In the show, it's just a trillion and John takes literally just a minute to swallow and that's it. In the book, the first chapters are about enjoying being rich and enjoying that. Here he buys a ferrari and two minutes later, he's in the middle of some conspiracy. The setup with the cliff and the car and the sister if the deceased first heir is beyond stupidity, it insults the intelligence of the viewer. I guess, most people won't go beyond that trillion mile big plot hole and rightfully so.
What a waste. What an opportunity. Shame on the writers, producers and directors, I really wanted to like that show but you messed it up for no good reason!
Ted Lasso: La Locker Room Aux Folles (2023)
Best recovery in TV history!
Yes, last weeks episode was a stinker.
But this week, oh boy, that was maybe one of the three best Ted Lasso episodes of all time.
Does it have football? Yes, a lot!
Does it have Roy Kent? Yes, a fuxxing lot!
Does it have the silly moments we all love like the Coach Beard hosting a press conference and getting mad about classic guitar players? Hell, yeah!
Does it warm your heart and leaves you a better person after watching? Yes, and I love you too!
Thank God Keeley stepped back in second row and Becca also just did Becca things but no more soap opera crap instead Ted Lasso does what this show is supposed to do. Inspire, entertain and leaving the audience begging for more.
Hats off and keep that pace until we reach the goal!
Ted Lasso: We'll Never Have Paris (2023)
When will they play football again...?
When did Ted Lasso become a full-time soap opera? I mean, I acknowledge the heartwarming story arcs about Ted, Keeley or Nate but when will the show go back to why we all love it, the actual game?
This episode started with a rushed Rickmond on a winning streak and then it was just another soap episode.
Why dropping the ball for another episode about love, relationships, divorce pain and stuff?
Where is Rupert and Becca? That's at least interesting.
Where is the team besides doing the right thing over and over again?
Why do we no longer exploit the language issues with Ted?
When did we drop Roy Kent?
Ted Lasso needs to go back to the game and win or even winning the league in the end will feel pointless.
Pistol (2022)
Haters gonna hate
Just like everything this show divides people. Just like the question: Was anything pure punk after 77?
Does this show catch the vibe of the Pistols haydays? Who could judge? A grumpy old fart like Rotten who hated everything related to his old band because he was casted in a boyband? Or the bystanders who were at the early gigs of the Pistols which must have had a million people attending judging by the masses who claim to be a witness.
The show reflects Jones blurry memory and it's entertaining. I can see why some people hate it. It's because it's too much but not enough, too realistic but too much of a fantasy.
Punk might be dead but this take on the glory days of Anarchy at least drains one last breath from this rotten corpse. Depends on which ending you put your nose.
Das schönste Mädchen der Welt (2018)
A gem, a tearjerker, a legal dose of happiness
Some movies can be cheesy, the story can have flaws and even have two-dimensional characters and get away with all the mistakes.
Sorry for you if you don't speak german, this gem can't be dubbed, it's a celebration of the beauty of words.
If you're searching for 100 minutes of fun and a dose of pure joy and happiness, watch this movie. But don't forget the tissue box!
The Predator (2018)
Just upgrade the franchise!!!
Take movie 1&2, grab the best parts, upgrade the effects, write a decent story, get Schwarzenegger for a cameo and voilà, you have a winner! It's not exactly rocket science.
This mess on the other hand was slightly entertaining but forgettable.
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
What did you expect, nerds???
That's a perfect ending! Period. The books will basically end the same way. And it was logical, poetic etc. Deal with it! I love it!
Game of Thrones: Winterfell (2019)
It's TV you snobs and nerds
Well paced overture to the final season, a slow burner that builds up to the battle for the North. I've red every book five times and yes, this is a different pace now, we have pure TV moments like dragons reacting to the Kiss of Ice and Fire and Theon to the rescue. But this has been part of this shows since season 1, so what? I started reading the first book in the middle of the 90s so it's about 24 years now and I prefer this vision to Martins books because it concludes before we're all dead.
Enjoy the ride, Winter is here and a scent of spring is only weeks away.
