I remember when I first purchased this game back when it first came out (1997 if i'm not mistaken).
I don't really remember much in the beginning of the game (such as Midgar, The Slums & the "creation" of Red XIII), but I was completely taken back by it's story line. The in-depth realism of (some of) the characters was brilliant at this gaming era.
The only things (I remember) that didn't quite "grip" me when they were supposed to was when Aries "Went deeper underground", the 1 hour long story behind Cloud's past, the death of Red XIII Dad/Grandad & who the *beep* cared if the president died !!
For many reasons I never got to finish the game back in 1997/98, so I have recently decided to get back into it.....
And I must say, The beginning of the game just doesn't "grip" me or make me think this'll be a good game in anyway. Searching (and failing) in an attempt to find a cheat to skip this part of the story, I struggled through the Midgar & FULL AVALANCE experience to try & recreate my desire to play this game.
The "Desire" came just after the Chaboco Farm / Breading (Sorry for the spelling).
Without spelling out the whole story, I just couldn't believe I left FF7 for (roughly) 6-7 years without playing it. This game is a MUST play. Even if you don't like it after (hopefully) completing it, you will admit it was worth the £5 you spent on eBay.
All in all, if this was made into a movie, and it was made WELL & into a trilogy / saga, people WILL be gripped & Amazed. This game MUST purchased to believe that a games doesn't need just graphics to be good !!
RATING = 9/10 (Not perfect in todays gaming world of graphics & Gameplay, but a bloody *beep* good effort)
PS Fav Character = Yuffie & Red XIII
