Tulsa King (2022)
Lilyhammer
An almost direct copy of a wonderful Norwegian series. Steven Van Zandt's Portrayal of the fish out of the water mobster in a small provincial town in Norway is almost identical.
Even the storyline is the same. I'm hoping that it's acknowledged somewhere down the line. Stallone is magnificent in this. I guess it's a good thing when you take something simple and wonderful and move on to another level with it. It will be interesting to see where the story arc goes. Steven Van Zandt's Gangster moves in, buys everything in cash, bribes the local pervert, has a kid, opens a bar and employs all of the locals including two brothers.
Anyway was delighted to see this interpretation of the story and seeing Stallone in probably his best role since Copland.
Smile (2022)
Pilfering at its finest
Absolutely the sound was great (nicked). Some of the best moments yanked from far superior movies like "It Follows" and "The Babadook". But one of the "scariest" moments is stolen wholesale from the staggeringly frightening Argentinian masterpiece "Terrified".
Fair dues for putting it all together. I had the end figured out around thirty minutes prior. It was fun. Lots of laughter in the cinema in the so called scariest moments. The ultra neurotic lead was heavy going and the usual "I'm explaining what's going on to family and friends as if I'm completely insane" rubbish grates from early on.
It's like Blair Witch. If you've never seen a horror movie you'll love this.
Well played director/producer. A solid 8!
Polar Bear (2022)
Awful voice over
For such an accomplished piece of animation it's assured that the script is so lousy and the narrator so dreadful.
Nothing else to say. Needed a proper voice actor, not a celebrity or whatever she is.
Ended up turning the sound off. Poor show!
The Bubble (2022)
Not sure why the low ratings
Yes it's actually hilarious. Laughed out loud the whole way through. It's also a great comment on the pandemic. The green screen stuff is great too.
Watch it. It's funny.
The Grudge (2019)
Trolls out in large numbers alert!
Looks like this is a victim of some concentrated internet trolling. Stupid comments nit picking at things that are designed to to drop the rating.
I am an addict of horror and this is good. Way better than the American remake of the original.
Also this is not a remake of the original movie. Not close.
Great cinematography, scary as hell. You'll love it and ignore the trolls.
Lost in Space (2018)
Utter muck
Watched the first series and it was like too little butter over too much bread. Unless you're 5 years old the lack of a coherent storyline will drive you mental.
The entire second series could have been done in one episode. Acting is fine. Effects are fine. Just the complete lack of any flow or structure to it.
Dreadful. I'm a Sci-fi nutter and will watch two flies in space suits climbing up a wall. But this...? Forget it. Skip it unless you have small children who like loud dramatic music and shiny things
Trumping Democracy (2017)
Interesting reactions here.
I'm not American but I was very familiar with the entire Brexit process.
I've checked up many of the facts in this and pretty much everything they are reporting is in the public domain if you search for it. Bizarre comments (obviously most of them from Americans) here. Exactly the demography of the people targeted. Poorly educated exposed to one or two news sources, who will believe what they are told as opposed to what they can actually find out themselves with a few clicks.
Pretty depressing really. If even half of this is true the negative reviews prove the whole point of the documentary. The rest of the world is watching the USA right now and it's ugly viewing.
