Wu Assassins (2019)
Cheesy but an enjoyable series
The Plot, ending may be conusing. The dialogue may be cheesy, and some of the characters you don't relaly care.
But man on man is the fighting AMAZING. This is seriously Netflix top 3 best action series of all time, no joke. This rivals Daredevil Fight scenes, and even rivals the John Wick movie fight scenes. Iko Uwais kills it (no pun intended) in this role, as his character is likeable and undergoes a character arc, as well as having badass skills.
Lewis Tan, Byron Mann, and Katheryn Winnick are also great, as well as Li Jun Li and Juju Chank. The fight scenes aren't shaky, or blurry, or involve many cuts. They are smooth and you can see the hits land, as well as the fights are satisfying.
Please watch this tv show so it can have a second season, and let people be more exposed to Iko Uwais.
Triple Threat (2019)
Good action, Okay plot
Lets start with the positive: the cast are really good. They weren't boring or trying very little. The fighting is also very good, its not shaky cam, its steady and you can clearly see the fight. The best fight is actually between Long Fei (Tiger Chen) and Jaka (Iko Uwais). This movie is also one of the most beautiful martial arts movie, not because of the quality but because you can clearly see the difference between kung fu and silat when fighting against each other.
The negative: the fights were good. yes. However, compare to the Raid or Ong Bak, or even the Protector they were okay. Don't get me wrong, the fight scenes are so much better compared to most Hollywood movies (except John Wick). However, due to time constraints they have to make the fights at most 3 minutes, which is a shame because these guys are great fighters. Also, the plot was confusing. Jaka hates Collin for killing innocents, but Jaka's plan involve killing innocents. Also, he calls people who don't have a name, so we have no idea who they are. Also, I was kind of bummed out that Iko Uwais loses most of his fights (he does win one). He is my favorite martial arts actor, so I was kind of bummed out. Most of the action is gun shooting (however its steady and not disorienting).
In conclusion: Its better than the Expendables for sure. However, the plot is a little messy, theres almost no character development. But it has great hand to hand combat. If you're judging it as a martial arts movie, its a 7/10 for me.
Bui doi Cho Lon (2013)
Pretty Decent
So I just watched the movie, and to be honest, it wasn't that bad. Okay. So here goes. This is going to be a HUGE Spoiler warning.
SPOILER!!!
Okay, so the action was great. They incorporated some martial arts like vovinam, and it was pretty cool seeing people getting stabbed. However, my issue was the plot. It is very similar to the movie Troy. Helen is the pretty girl name Huong. Paris is the main character name Lam. Hector is Lam's brother name Hung Dao. Menelaus is like Tai Nhot, and Achilles is like Feng "Dust." It has the exact same structure. Huong loves Lam more than Tai Nhot due to Tai Nhot being older and violent than her (she's like in her early 20s and Tai Nhot is like in his 50s). Tai Nhot orders Feng to find her, etc. Overall, the movie is 40 percent action, but the plot is just average. There's not that room for character development so you really don't care for them that much except for Huong. The audio is kind of weird too. Sometimes the grunting doesn't mix well with the fighting. And to the end, you just wish Lam would win against Tai Nhot. If you want to watch an action movie, this is the movie for you. But if you want to watch good story telling, then this movie won't surprise you.
