Kill Command (2016)
Not jumping out of my seat, but definitely not leaving it either.
If you're looking for an edgy sci-fi movie that is a compliment to it's genre, watch this movie. To be fair, it wasn't the thrill ride I had hoped it would be, but it definitely had tension. I was glued to the story throughout the movie.
For starters, I love the way that this movie is written. The writing style is amazing and, although some dialog felt forced or inaccurate, it painted the picture perfectly well. My biggest qualm with dialog was when they were talking radio codes... I noticed they were using 'copy' in place of "over.' Nit-picking, I know. I've noticed a lot of criticisms on this movie are based on the script and I simply just don't see it. I'm the type of person that would talk like that, I suppose.
The plot line itself doesn't start off as gripping. It's a little interesting, kind of fun to watch... but if you hadn't seen the trailer, you wouldn't know what to expect. I actually kind of like that about it. The beginning of the movie does drag, but it's setting the stage for bigger things. The plot thickens about a quarter of the way through the movie and then it's just a roller coaster. I thought the ending was awesome and satisfying.
Small-budget movie, but it looked polished. (I think I saw somewhere it was only a million on their budget?) The effects looked beautiful, not unbelievable, not tacky, not fake. Beautiful. If you're reading this, concept artists and effects gurus of this movie, bravo. It looks like a stunning big-budget movie. Those robots looked like real robots. The whole design of the robots was just well-done. The use of lighting in this film is great as well.
There were some cliche's, the plot left a few questions unanswered, and some of the dialog was stiff. Regardless, I thought this was a great movie.
